In the single digits for cards remaining for my last three WOTC master sets. The market has certainly made it challenging, but gotta catch em all 😊
Any cards you folks love, from art to specific kinds of Pokemon, that you associate with this time of year?
Took me years, but now it is complete. Feels good.
Won’t be grading any because I do not have the money to do so (actually had to sell a lot of my childhood collection this summer) and the grading horror stories put me off it completely anyway. There were around 500 cards. Since these photos were taken I can assure that I did sleeve everything, and top-loaded the ones I cared about (lot came with Neo files 1-3 and most of the world Pikas which I was very careful with). Nearly all of the cards were in incredible condition! Guy who sold it to me was just happy his uncle’s collection ended up with someone who plans to keep it. I did sell duplicates to cover cost of the lot, but as soon as that cost was covered these babies will be sticking with me until I’m 6 feet under. Best day ever.

Fun story I was at Aftershock during Starset (why I went) and this auction came up, its been my grail for so long so I had the phone up in the air to bid on tiktok and a whole crowd kept going awwww when I got outbid and all cheered when I won it
I have been collecting the vs set for as long as its been out and could finally this last piece
Back in 2024, I decided I wanted a Fossil master set, having never completed it as a kid. To make it harder (and more expensive) on myself, I decided to only get 1st editions. About 30 months (and several price spikes) later, today I have finally completed it after cracking a Dragonite slab and completing the 63 card collection.
I typically picked everything up from eBay or Cardmarket and was in no rush, biding my time to pick up great deals on HP cards that I felt were good binder copies. I kept it all in a spreadsheet to see how much it would total:

I remember in 1999, a kid having this card at the park after he freshly pulled it and everyone thought it was super special because of the “gold” holo, haha. I had no clue who Nidoking was before that moment. Loved the card/pokemon ever since.

As per title, I love my vintage sets and curious to know how many of you consider the original Japanese cards when collecting for wotc era.
With vintage prices surging, I’ve been tempted to fully going for Japanese with how big of a price difference there is now between English and Japanese.
I haven’t finished counting all the cards I got but this was the largest collection of NM to very LP WOTC Pokemon cards. So far what I’ve gone thru has been all 1st EDITION BASE SET, SHADOWLESS BASE SET, FOSSIL, JUNGLE, TEAM ROCKET,NEO GEN.
Also included the SOUTHERN ISLAND SET. (No Charizard, blastoise, or venasaur). Most were non holo. And now I’m the owner of this collection. He wanted a Focus Fighter box for the Sealed Neo Gen file #1. And wanted $4-$500 dollars for the cards. He wanted his gf to rip packs and find some “cute”cards. He was about to go to the military. I handed him $1200. And he said “Are you sure sir”. lol (I told him I was a Vet too. I was in the Marines he’s joining the Air Force) Amazing amazing amazing.
It has so much to offer with it being a bad ass artwork, and a historically significant Pokémon in the anime. I remember playing Pokemon red as a kid and getting Pidgeotto evolved to pidgeot. such an awesome feeling.

Just bought both CGC 9 and 10. I had an itch I wanted to scratch. If it moons, great. If not I have deux derpy ampharos.
Update: everyone is so salty. I’m totally fine keeping the cards in my PC. Just thought it was cool that it was a low pop.
I like them both, but the coloration on the Japanese card is amazing!
