I have the Simply Cash Preferred Credit Card and I’m no longer using it as much, can I downgrade?

The monthly fee works out more than the actual cash back I accumulate these days. I’ve tried to downgrade in the past to the no monthly fee cash back CC and they said I’d have to close the credit card, is that true? Is there any way I can go about this so I’m not closing the account?

Expedia 10% offer question

I have an upcoming trip that I'm hoping to use the 10% off Expedia hotel bookings offer on. This might be a dumb question, but how do I select the pay now option so that I can get the discount from the offer? Every hotel shows "reserve now, pay later", I never see a "pay now" option for any hotels. Even when I click the reserve button to see if there's a "pay now" option during checkout, I don't see that as an option there.

Am I missing something obvious here?

Has anyone actually used the cobalt insurance?

I’ve read the certificate of insurance multiple times and feel confident using it, but my mom is convinced that credit card travel insurance are a false sense of security and that they’ll find some loophole to reject me. She keeps buying me separate travel insurance because she doesn’t trust that I’ll actually be covered in case of emergency.

So I’m seeking personal anecdotes on those who have used it for medical emergencies

Is it worth it to switch from Cobalt to Platinum?

I usually get offers to switch to Gold, but recently got an offer to switch to Platinum with a 170k bonus. Reaching the bonus threshold isn’t an issue, but I’d be earning much less points with the Platinum otherwise. Is the move to switch, earn the bonus, and switch back to Cobalt after 2 years? (40k of the bonus pts offered with the platinum are earned when you make a purchase between 15 and 17 months of Cardmembership)

Gold retention offer & points transfer to Cobalt

I have got a retention offer of 5k points to retain Amex gold as my annual fee is due end of August. I applied for Cobalt and wanted to do points transfer to cobalt and close Gold account. If I keep gold then there's $250 fees in exchange to acquire 5000 points + monthly cobalt fees(this is my 2nd cobalt so no welcome bonus either)

What would be ideal scenario in this case. My annual spending is probably $12-15k on Amex.

  1. Retain gold by paying $250 and acquiring 5000points

  2. Cancel gold, decline the 5000 points and continue using cobalt.

How’s the Amex lounge at Rogers Stadium?

Hi everyone,

My mum and I will be going to a concert next week at Rogers Stadium. We are very excited since it’s our first time going to this venue. She has an Amex plat and wondering if it’s worth it to go to the lounge early and chill.

Also, is a reservation required to use the lounge? We asked Amex live chat but they just told us to ask ticketmaster(?)

Thanks in advance!!

Explain 3x credit limit increase

Hi! I’ve tried searching the sub extensively, but I can’t seem to find a clear answer, so sorry if this post ends up being repetitive.
I was recently approved for the Amex SimplyCash with a 1k limit. I have other credit cards with different institutions that I try to keep below 30% utilization right before the monthly statement is issued. My limits are generally fine for my spending (around 3k per card), but I’d like to get a higher limit on my Amex to improve my overall utilization ratio even further. The limits on my other cards only increase once a year, if even that.

I’ve seen several comments mentioning the “3x” rule. Could someone explain exactly what that means? It might seem obvious to some people, but I’m having trouble understanding exactly how it works.
Also, just like with my other cards, is it better to use the Amex normally and make sure to pay it down as much as possible before the statement is generated, so that the reported utilization stays below 30%?
Thanks!

Bonvoy Transfer

I understand that if you’re transferring Amex points to Bonvoy points in the new promotion, your regular transfer goes through, but it takes 8+ weeks for the transfer points to go through.

Question. If I use those regular points up the second they hit the Bonvoy account - will I still get the “transfer” amount 8 weeks later? Meaning, do I need to leave the points in the account to get the bonus?

Thanks in advance!

Pending transaction disappears

Anyone used amex to book porter airline tickets? My transaction showed pending but disappeared after few days, my flight still shows confirmed on the porter app.

I am worried if there would be any issue at the airport, flying in 2 weeks.

Has anyone used the Amex lounge at Rogers Stadium?

It says 1 cardholder plus guest in the terms but the reservations allowed me to reserve for more than 2 people? Is it because they're assuming we have multiple Amex cardholders? Was trying to have a group of 3 go in.

Amex $200 Fine Dining Credit

Hi, We just moved to the US for a while. I was wondering, if there are any restaurants I can buy a GC from online, that would trigger my $200 dining credit on Canadian Amex Plat. I would hate to see it go to waste. Please let me know here if possible or you can DM. TIA

Amex on gambling sites?

Recently got the Marriott amex card, im attempting to put purchases on the card to get the points that wont lose me any money. I asked an amex agent if casinos count towards this, she said its a cash advance however she said that paypal purchases dont. Could I not use my amex on PayPal and deposit into these sites and then withdraw to another account?

Anyone know why some Tim-Hortons locations don’t take Amex?

Decided to give the brand another chance and was told off by a cashier for using my card. I’m assuming it’s based on the whims of Franchisees, but it’s still confusing since I thought brands like McDonald’s / Starbucks were each required to accept the same cards at every location.

Does buying stuff with amex online make all purchases be paid in USD?

I recently got an Amex card for the first time, and this might be my first online purchase using it. But wWhen I try to buy these items, AliExpress forces the payment into USD instead of CAD. Is this just how AliExpress handles Amex payments, or does Amex always process transactions in USD on any website? And will I be charged a foreign exchange fee?

Amex Lounges at Concert Venues

this post earlier today sparked a question about an upcoming concert I have.

https://www.reddit.com/r/amexcanada/s/PeNuzss6Sm

I have GA tickets for a concert at two separate venues (including rogers arena, vancouver and rbc amphitheater in toronto) in a few weeks. I was wondering if it’s possible to arrive closer to the gates opening time and use my amex early entry to go in and get a good spot in GA Pit, as those are the tickets I paid for.

Or is amex entry only allowed for the amex lounge spots at those venues.

Would love to hear if anyone has done the is before.
