I’m terrified of leaving a job where I’m genuinely valued but I know I need to go

Sorry in advance for the long post 😅 I think I needed to vent a little too. And thank you to anyone who takes the time to read all of this!

I’m not sure if this is the right sub for this, but I figured I’d give it a try. I’m mostly looking for some encouragement, advice, or to hear from people who have been in a similar situation.
I’ve been on maternity leave since the end of March and was originally planning to return to work earlier, but a situation involving my husband’s health forced me to postpone my return. I’m now planning to go back in October.
The thing is… I really want to change jobs.

There are actually two main reasons.
The first one existed long before my maternity leave. I work for a firm rather than in a traditional corporate environment, and over the years I’ve realized that it’s just not where I want to build my career anymore. The salary increases are very minimal, there’s no RRSP (401k), and the benefits seem to get worse every year because it’s a small company and they don’t negotiate the group insurance very well.

I’m also in my 30s, and I’ve increasingly felt like I’m not taken as seriously for bigger projects compared to people in their 40s who have been there longer and have closer relationships with management (theyre all friends of long date before the company even existed). I’m at a point in my career where I want to grow, take on more responsibility and eventually move toward a management/director-level role.

The second reason became much more obvious during maternity leave.
I’ve been working 100% remotely since 3 years now, and since being on leave, I’ve realized how much I actually miss having a workplace (hybrid mode). I miss seeing colleagues, getting out of the house, having adult conversations, and having something in my life that isn’t baby-related. 😂 I honestly just want a bit of a normal routine again.
More than anything, I miss the idea of working in a corporate environment: better compensation, stronger benefits, more opportunities for career progression, and hopefully the possibility of working my way toward a management position in the next few years.
I’m actively looking now.

BUT…

I am absolutely terrified of telling my current director that I’m leaving.
I haven’t found another job yet, so this might happen tomorrow… or in a month… or in two months. But whenever it happens, I know I’m going to have to resign, and the thought of it makes me feel incredibly guilty.

The difficult part is that I actually have a very good relationship with my team and management. They genuinely like me since the very beginning (more my personality). They also promoted me in 2025 (deserved lol). They allowed me to extend my maternity leave because of my family situation. They gave me a really thoughtful gift before I left, and they were genuinely excited about having me come back.

A previous colleague even left before the end of her maternity leave to become a stay-at-home mom, so I know they’ve already experienced someone not coming back.

And yet, I still feel like I’m betraying them.

Yesterday, I opened Teams for the first time in a while and saw all the conversations basically on their knees in admiration of our president after she gave a conference.
And honestly… it annoyed the hell out of me. 😂

The whole “OMG our president is absolutely incredible!” vibe because she… gave a conference and did her job as president. I’m supposed to be cheering like she’s Michael Jackson in 1995.

And I suddenly thought: Yeah. I really don’t see myself doing this for the next years.

So I guess what I’m struggling with is this:
Have any of you ever been in a situation where you had a good relationship with your employer, felt genuinely appreciated and supported by them, but still knew deep down that you wanted and needed to leave?

Did you ever feel like you were “betraying” them by accepting a better opportunity?

How did you get over that guilt and actually take the leap?
I know logically that companies make business decisions all the time and that I’m allowed to make career decisions too. But emotionally, it’s a completely different story. Im not a shy person but I’m so shy just thinking about calling my director to give her that new (when I’ll have an offer of course)

Thanks so much if you made it this far! 🫶🏼

Bonjour !
Merci !

Explain 3x credit limit increase

Hi! I’ve tried searching the sub extensively, but I can’t seem to find a clear answer, so sorry if this post ends up being repetitive.
I was recently approved for the Amex SimplyCash with a 1k limit. I have other credit cards with different institutions that I try to keep below 30% utilization right before the monthly statement is issued. My limits are generally fine for my spending (around 3k per card), but I’d like to get a higher limit on my Amex to improve my overall utilization ratio even further. The limits on my other cards only increase once a year, if even that.

I’ve seen several comments mentioning the “3x” rule. Could someone explain exactly what that means? It might seem obvious to some people, but I’m having trouble understanding exactly how it works.
Also, just like with my other cards, is it better to use the Amex normally and make sure to pay it down as much as possible before the statement is generated, so that the reported utilization stays below 30%?
Thanks!

Thoughts on a second tray ?

Looking for your thoughts! Would you get another accessory tray for the right side or it’s too much ? I’d put the soap on it, and the extra space could be used for little things like when my husband takes off his ring or I could just leave it empty.

Nike v5 RNR

Hi everyone! I’m looking to buy a pair of Nike V5 RNRs, but the color I want is only available in the men’s shoes section (I’m a woman).
Is there any difference between the men’s and women’s version of this model, or is it exactly the same shoe with different sizing? Thanks!
