Dotocryptus bellicosus. A beautiful parasitoid wasp native to my country.

Saw her while camping next to a lake in the summer. She was looking for potter wasp nests to lay her eggs in.

Why do I keep attracting little buggos?

They think I’m a perfect landing spot for some reason

Caught the field cricket that I was hearing in the back yard finally. He's a really sweet guy, and after I filmed and got some photos I let him go right where I found him. He even got comfortable and felt safe enough to sing before I let him go.

Is there a way to mitigate bug injury while mowing grass?

I’m working on converting my yard to mostly non-lawn wildflower features and native plants, but in the meantime I still have some lawn and I do still have to mow it sometimes, even though I don’t like to.

I want to preserve the fireflies and other friends that are hiding in the grass as much as possible. Is there a time of day or a time of season that is better for mowing in this regard? Is it better to put off mowing for as long as possible, or is that counterproductive? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Got the sweetest girl today!

Apologies about the nails and cuticles, that's what happens when you work with animals, haha!

I ordered three, asking for males, but got a female anyways. I don't mind, though, as she can join Zeze and Matilda in the retirement enclosure. Both antenna are short, all tarsi/legs damaged in some way and she's extremely quiet so definitely a grandma. Luckily, I'm used to hand feeding and watering so she's in good hands. The three girls have already eaten together and cuddled up.
