Which option for stairs?

Hi All! Fairly certain we will be choosing Furlong Flooring Bliss for our 3 bedrooms. We would love the stairs and landing to match the colour, so was wondering if we should go for Bliss or Bliss comfort? I’m aware the pile is on the higher side, so thinking it may be best to opt for the slightly shorter comfort version?

Carpet vs hardwood plus rugs in high traffic rooms

Redoing our living room and hallway, the two rooms that get wrecked daily by two little kids and a big dog, and I can't decide between carpet or hardwood with area rugs on top. From what I've found, carpet is cheaper to install and way softer and warmer underfoot, but it soaks up every spill, smell, and stain and starts looking trashed in the walking paths after a few years, especially with a dog that isn't 100% accident proof. Hardwood costs more upfront but wipes clean in seconds, and if it's solid wood it can get refinished and basically lasts forever, while a cheap rug on top takes the actual abuse and gets swapped out when it's destroyed instead of you having to recarpet the whole room.

Right now I'm leaning hardwood plus rugs just because cleaning up after kids and a dog seems so much easier and the rug becomes the disposable part instead of the whole floor, but I know carpet still wins for warmth and noise. Anyone who's actually lived with either setup for 5+ years with kids or pets, did it hold up the way you expected, or do you regret your choice? Also curious if carpet tiles are worth it as a middle ground where you can just replace one section instead of the entire floor.

Can you please recommend a good car mat brand that you enjoy using?

The car mats that came with my Camry wore out really fast.

The floor was exposed and my two daughters won’t stop spilling oil, food and water colors all over the floor.

As a replacement, two years ago, I bought two sets of car mats but dirt keeps getting stuck in all the corners and they are a pain to clean. They are wearing out now and the last time I cleaned my car I somehow got so tired of the clumsiness in cleaning them that I had to simply dispose of them.

I’m thinking of replacing my car mats again.I’ve never really been lucky with getting an easy to clean car mat with modern design cos I see people say they use car mats for over five years and they are still solid until they get tired of it.

But this time, I won’t buy a random car mat. I need two sets of car mats that are easy to clean, and cover everywhere my kids usually make a mess. It can be any dark color.

Any recommendations of brands making modern, nice looking car mats would be appreciated. If you can simply drop the name I can search on Alibaba or other similar platforms.

Expected movement on a new carpet?

EDIT: Sounds like it is normal. I didn't know it was normal and you don't know these things until you ask! Figured it was better to find out on here than call the fitters back. I'll stop worrying about it and tugging on it. Thank you all for the speedy replies 👍

ORIGINAL POST: I had this saxony carpet fitted in mid-May (it's June 30th on posting this) and can pinch a few fibres and lift sections of the carpet.

Is that normal? It's a bit hard to hoover, but that might be the deep pile + my intense pet hair vacuum just not mixing well.

Any advice or comments appreciated - thank you!

Carpet glue?

I am in the process of removing old carpet, do i need to remove this layer of glue as well? I plan on putting down LVP floating flooring. I understand any deep divets need to be leveled out, but it doesnt seem like I should have to remove it. Or at least I hope

What is the best solution to my rug wrinkling

Sorry for asking such a simple question on here, but I’ve recently moved house and I just don’t have the budget to spend money on anything at all that doesn’t work.

I’ve got quite a thin rug on my hard living room floor and it is constantly wrinkling. I’ve researched rug underlays, carpet grippers and carpet tape and I’m not sure what would work best for this type of rug.

Does anyone have experience of a similar style of rug and could recommend a solution that actually works (and stops me wasting money on things that don’t!)

Thanks!!

Just bought my first carpet while in Iraq. It's apparently Iranian, but I can't be sure. If anyone knows anything about the style, please let me know

I got it for USD 400 from a friend of a friend here in Iraq. My local friend seemed pretty happy about the price. He showed me a few rugs but what he said about this one was: pretty unique design, 100+ years old (no idea but he did seem pretty honest when carpets weren't old), Iranian.

The middle is a little more worn out but the edges are still quite soft. Not sure if I want to hang it or use it on the floor.

If anyone has any more info on the style and possible origins please let me know.

Don't know if this is the right sub but how do I unstain my carpet

https://preview.redd.it/ml0c3sfzei9h1.png?width=1080&format=png&auto=webp&s=21e12d4c97403060bc8799aff39a44bdff84ed34

It was ground meat seasoned with cajun, hence the reddish color. It's been roughly an hour since the stain. I've added a small, uneven layer of baking soda, and sprayed the area with some warm water.

I don't know what the fuck I'm doing and I've trusted google, but yeah pls help.

Baseboard error or carpet install error?

Doing a flip and had carpet installed. They said to do baseboard first. There were existing tack strips, kinda sloppy but I figured I’d mostly leave them and they can decide what they want to take out/redo. Took out a few that would’ve been way under the baseboard. Set the baseboard 1/8” above tack strips (not counting nails), so 3/8” off the subfloor. It is thin carpet so maybe I should’ve gone a little lower?

The install was bundled through Home Depot carpet purchase, so I wasn’t looking for anything beautiful, it was pretty cheap. But even still some of these defects are super visible. Would I be justified to take issue with this?

Picture #1 they just carved out a big chunk of the baseboard. In 3 it seems the tack strip might be too far out? Either way huge valley. 5/6 I can see being my fault for trying to match that tile height, maybe you have to contour the baseboard there. 7/8 are what I’d call acceptable errors. But those are all over so they start to add up

Struggling to decide on a carpet.

I love color but don’t want the carpet to clash with the couch. Would a solid green or a solid red look best in this space? Is there any carpet that wouldn’t look too boring but also wouldn’t clash with the couch?

How to rescue this carpet

Hey there,

this is my girlfriends carpet .. she likes it, but it got some old stains, so we don't use it. It happened long before me, so I only got some information, but I hope, that maybe there is a trick to rescue it. And where to find it if not on reddit?!

The informations I got: Its made of acrylic yarn; the stains came from spilled sprite or another soft drink, they tried some things to clean it, but it only got worse.

I'm thankfull for any idea .. we have not much to lose, it was stored for the last years so... thank you!

Carpet or other suggestions to reduce fall risk

Hi, I am looking for suggestions for something to cover linoleum flooring in a bathroom for the elder I work with. She is around 85 with dementia and a shuffling gait. The linoleum flooring is blue and white and really messes with her depth perception. Right now there's a hodgepodge of rugs and yoga mats in the bathroom and the person in charge of caretaker coordination asked me to look into other options. This elder has fallen in the bathroom a few times so they want something to cover the floor because apparently when nothing is covering it she is very hesitant and the shuffling increases. Whatever it is needs to be inexpensive so it can be replaced or easily washable for obvious reasons. A lightweight carpeting that I can cut to size that won't shift around is one option however that wouldn't last long before needing to be replaced. Has anyone dealt with this before and have any suggestions? Tripping is a big concern and as much as carpet in a bathroom isn't ideal its better than a hodgepodge of rugs or nothing but the linoleum right now. If there's other subreddits that would be good for cross posting I'm open to that information too. Thanks for helping me keep this sweet lady safe!

What would be a good rug color with these floors?

Not a big fan of the floor/trim/cabinet color combo. What would be a good rug color for this area? It will be my living room.

First 2 Rugs, Tips?

I just finished my first two rugs. The first being dub’d “MagicKarpet” and the second a Mega Charizard X as my nephews birthday gift. I have definitely learned a lot from both and am excited for what’s next. If you have any tips or if there is enough interest i can write up lessons learned from them. Cheers and happy Tufting.

Turkish Carpet

Purchased this carpet in Istanbul 19 years ago. It is 117x92 inches.
Certificate says it is from the Cashmere Region, wool and silk, double knot. Any idea what this is worth or where to have it appraised? No longer have room for it.
