Saw smoke over Sewell / McDougal area and apparently dispatch states a staging ground for a wildfire ?
Was there a fire in the north forest?
Drove by around 17:00 and there were three engines parked in one of the lanes with lights on by the railroad
Hope you guys have fun with your crappy Velotric e-bikes, which randomly accelerate or decelerate for no reason. Enjoy the complete lack of available replacement parts. Enjoy the smooth and nimble ride, like riding shotgun with your drunk friend in their cement mixer truck. Enjoy the 100% AI customer service.
But damnit, we rode them a lot. They were OURS, not YOURS. Yes, we often joked about hoping someone would steal them so we could get better ones, but those were JOKES.
Here are the deets:
Kind of an odd time for two randos to be strolling around the neighborhood, in broad daylight, in hopes of finding something to steal. We think they knew what they were after.
A working theory: we occasionally get deliveries from Walmart (don't judge). They ALWAYS come early, before we wake up. A driver would have noticed the bikes. If that driver is a regular, they'd know we've never up that early, that our blinds are drawn.
The front door cam unfortunately didn't trigger as they were approaching, so these vids are all we got [ok apparently I can only upload one]. But surely someone recognizes clothes so ugly. Or maybe you'll spot someone riding a bright orange Velotric around town - it's the only one! Or maybe you'll spot someone on the grey one, which is heavy and now will not be electric b/c you need my fingerprint to turn it on (the orange one doesn't need this). Stupid jerks.
Let me know, please!
Hello! I am writing a guide for incoming UNCCH students to navigate CH transit. Would any CH bus drivers be open to speaking to me about their experience/what it entails? Thanks!
Hello!
Do you own or know of someone who has a rental property, "mother-in law: suite, or a home that needs house-sitting regularly?
What I'm Seeking: A recurring rental of a whole apartment or home. Must be 1-2 bedrooms located in the Carrborro, Chapel Hill Area. Would also consider nearby areas like Mebane, Hillsboro or South Durham etc. It's 7 nights per trip, Saturday - Saturday, 3rd week of each month during the school year (Sept - May, except December).
My Situation: I currently live in NYC and visit Carrboro/Chapel Hill area 1 week per month, except for the summer. My child was born in NYC, but after our divorce my ex moved herself and our child to the Triangle area. After long and painful negotiation we worked out that I would travel from NYC to NC one week per month during the school year to exercise custody. I am unable to move at this time.
Context: I have been renting AirBnB's monthly for about a year now, and not only is the quality/convenience inconsistent for myself or my child (7 yo), the cost can very widely - often over $1k. Paying rent in NYC plus $1k month on lodging, not included my travel expenses, completely drains my finances.
I'd like to find a place that can be a familiar home base every visit for my child's sake. My hope is that a recurring guaranteed renter, going outside of expensive platforms like AirBnb or Vrbo, will decrease cost for me and give guaranteed cash to a potential renter.
Please DM me if you have any leads! I'm more than happy to provide letters of recommendation from my current and past landlords, proof of income, interview process or whatever else to know this is a legit request.
I had a bunch of things stolen from my car on their property and they only paid half of my things back. If you would like to help, please avoid this location on Franklin Street.
Free washer/dryer set in Northside Neighborhood. They're yours if you can haul them out of the house. DM me for more information. Have to be gone by June 10th.
Hey everyone, checking back in for my friend who is fostering Bubba through Orange County Animal Services. He is still looking for his forever home, and we are hoping that by sharing this, the right person will finally see him.
Please don't let his age or his size fool you, now that he’s been settling into foster care, my friend has discovered that he is honestly the easiest, most low-maintenance dog you could ever ask for.
What it’s actually like living with Bubba:
Because he lives in a world of total quiet, he won't bark at the mailman or get scared of thunderstorms. He does need a quick, helpful boost to get into the car since his back legs are a little older, and he needs a home without cats.
Bubba is a senior Lab/Pointer mix who is ready to be the ultimate, easygoing companion for a quiet household or a retired couple.
Even if you can’t adopt, please share. It only takes one share for the right person to see him. Let’s get this sweet boy the forever couch he deserves!

We found this sweet girl this morning. The durham’s sheriffs office just picked her up.
We need to find a new gym and really do not like planet fitness, but any other option I have found in the area is crazy expensive. o2 fitness is like $80 a month.
We are not gym rats, we really just need like a treadmill, eliptical, stairclimber would be nice, a couple machines for weights would be nice.
Honestly would be just walking or running outside but holy crap I know how hot it is going to be this summer so we need somewhere inside.
Anybody got any ideas?
Hi! I just graduated from Duke and I’m spending the summer in Chapel Hill. I want to make some extra cash and I was thinking I could dog walk on Rover and then driver delivery on either DoorDash or Uber Eats. Anyone have any knowledge about which is best in the area? Any tips about peak hours or best locations? Also any suggestions about other opportunities for flexible jobs in the area or any other apps would be immensely appreciated! Thanks :)
Hi there! I'm Heather, and I teach photography at the ArtsCenter in Carrboro. I'm looking for some local photo opportunities for my students in the next couple of months and would love to try our new skills in a variety of settings - we are looking for sports teams at practice, events, artists, musicians, chefs, etc - cool people doing cool things, in public, who wouldn’t mind giving some photo enthusiasts a learning opportunity and receiving a range in quality of images. I’ll really work to make it worth your while, but again, it’s a learning opportunity, so some people won’t even have the equipment to get you high-quality images, but you’ll get some for sure! If this sounds cool to you, please fill out my form here. Thanks!!
Moving from out of state and will be working a few miles east of CH. I’d appreciate any thoughts on the following areas: Chapel Hill, Durham, and Cary. Raleigh seems to be too far away.
Ideally will be in a newer apt for one year.
Mid 30s, moving with SO, no kids, both in medicine. We’re coming from Denver, probably a similar area to Cary here where we’re fifteen from the hospital, fifteen from downtown Denver, near a bunch of retail and shops and restaurants but nothing at all walkable where we’re at now.
Anyone around still remember this place from the 90's on West Franklin Street?
It seems Nyah Hamlett did not take a salary cut when she left her superintendent job to go become Montgomery County Public Schools' Chief Equity and Development Officer. Unless salaries have been updated from what is currently publicly available, this makes her the second highest paid employee of MCPS.
This weekend my wife and I found an amazing creek and trail over behind the botanical gardens. We trekked down the creek and it was super nice and cool, but a little shallow to fully swim or even just get waste deep.
Does anyone know of any quiet or chill creeks in the area that are public and we could possibly swim in? Does not have to be super deep but like waste deep in some spots would be nice just to chill in.
Not really into lakes/ponds, prefer moving water. A rive would be fine too but I don't know of any in the immediate area.
Just looking for spots in Chapel Hill and carrboro. We know of some spots in durham and raleigh but we want something in the neighborhood for when we don't feel like making a trek somewhere.
Hope everyone's doing well!
I'll be attending grad school at UNC in the fall. I want to get a better understanding from locals of what current rents are like in both Durham and Chapel Hill, and how much I should expect to pay in terms of the overall COL.
FWIW—I currently live in Charlotte with family and have spent limited time in the Triangle. I'll have my car and am willing to drive about 20-30 minutes away from campus (at most) if it saves some money. I don't have a strict budget yet, since I'm still getting familiar with the Triangle; I just want to know what to expect on average.
Lastly, I'd like to move in by August 1. Ideally, I'd like to live in a cheap studio or one-bedroom apartment if possible, but I figure that's probably a stretch, so I'm fine with 1-2 roommates if the rent is that much cheaper. Any recommendations regarding apartment complexes/realtors to look into or avoid would be greatly appreciated!
