Is this two crabs on top of each other, or one?

I’m pretty sure it’s two on top of each other, but I’m not sure. (Also, they are alive)

Please help, new crab mom

Hello! I plan to adopt 2-3 purple pincher hermit crabs as I have read that they are fine in 75 degrees Fahrenheit unlike the usual 85 degrees preferred by other species of hermit crabs. I have gathered the following info from this thread and a few online guides and youtube videos. If anyone has any critiques of my plan or any extra advice I would really appreciate it! I want to give these hermit crabs a great life!

I have purchased:
- A 60 gallon glass tank, 24 x 24 x 24 (no lid)
- 3 bricks of Eco Earth
- Prime - for water conditioning
- Zoo Med thermometer humidity gauge
- The hamster running thing (for exercise)
- Natural coconut fiber background
- BN Link heat pad : 12in x 6in (kind of small in my opinion)
- Zoo Med terrarium moss
- Hermit crab soaking salt
- A bunch of random shells (I do not know the origin, they are second hand. Not painted)
- Catappa leaves - how are these used?
- Wooden bridges
- Two coconut hanging homes
- Chameleon climbing ropes
- Two large but one inch deep bowls
- Two feeding bowls
- A big tree home
- A ton of fake plants
- A cave

I plan to buy:
- 4 50lb bags of play sand (calcium free)
- Deeper pools for water
- Aquarium bubblers for humidity
- A nature themed covering to make them feel safe
- The hermit crabs

For food I have gathered the following info and plan to follow:
- Diet of proteins and veggies and fruits and calcium sources
- Veggie scraps, egg shells, plain cooked chicken, Bearded dragon feed, freeze dried meal worms, fruits
- Supplements: Greensand and wormcasting
- No commercial hermit crabs pellets
- Copper sulphate is a nono
- No seasonings

For water:
- two deep but escapable pools: freshwater and saltwater
- The moss pack says to use the moss to build an escape system out of the pools. It says to wash it by rinsing it in water every now and then? How often should I?

For live plants I wanted to buy:
- Pothos
- Spiderplant
- Nerve plants
- Airplants
- Avoid pesticides

Questions I have:

How big do they (purple pincher hermit crabs) get?

Would they prefer to be in a group of 2 or 3?

Will they fit in a 60 gallon tank once fully grown?

When should I be worried about their health?

What can I do when worried about their health?

How many inches of substrate do these size hermit crabs need and will that need change as they grow?

Cleaning ritual?

Poop?

Females or males? Can I mix sexes?

Do females experience a menstrual cycle?

Typical buried time?

When should I worry while they are buried? When is too long?

Should I aid with molting? How?

What if they fight?

How to use catappa leaves? Necessary?

I got most stuff from facebook second hand, does it need to be sanitized? Crab diseases?

What do the supplements (greensand and wormcasting) do?

How do I help the other if one passes?

Fed daily? What if I am gone for vacation for a few days?

How often should their water be changed? Weekly?

What are turbo shells? Why are they preffered? Where do I find/purchase them?

David vs. Goliath. Clash of the Century.

My dog barked in complaint at night, and when I approached, he was fighting a baby crab. My dog was so afraid of it that I named the crab David, and my dog was Goliath. Just like in the biblical story, the crab won, but with a little help from me, I showed him the way to the light (the sea).

This is also a lesson from nature.

Anyone owned banana crabs?

I fell in love with these crabs I seen at a pet store once, but couldn't get them at the time, so now I'm waiting until they come back to this pet store as I was informed they will be getting some soon.

I want to have the cage set up before I get the crab. However, I have only had mammal pets. All this talk about water filters, heaters, humidity etc scares me, but I'm willing to try something new.

Anyone with habitat and care tips for me? There is not much information about these crabs online. ):

🕷️🤿 Meet the Alien of the Reef: The Arrow Crab

At first glance, arrow crabs barely look real. With their tiny triangular bodies and extremely long spider-like legs, they look more like something from another planet than a crab.

These little creatures are commonly found hiding inside crevices, coral formations, sponges, and small caves across the Caribbean and tropical Atlantic — including many reefs and cenotes in Mexico. During the day they usually stay hidden for protection, coming out more actively at night to feed.

Their strange shape actually has a purpose. Their long thin legs help them move through tight spaces in the reef while staying light and agile. It also helps them avoid predators by blending into soft corals, sea rods, and reef structures where they almost look like part of the environment.

Arrow crabs are scavengers and opportunistic hunters. They feed on tiny worms, small crustaceans, leftover food, and sometimes even bristle worms that many reef creatures avoid. Some divers and aquarists even like them because they help clean parts of the reef ecosystem.

One funny thing about them: despite looking fragile and harmless, they can actually be surprisingly territorial with other small crabs.

Definitely one of those tiny macro subjects that makes you stop underwater and think:
“How is this thing even real?” 🌊

New game all about Crabs & Carcinization just released!

Hey fellow Crab lovers 🦀

I appreciate this is a little ODD compared to the usual posts here but given it's still on theme, I hope it will be okay!

We (Odd Dreams Digital) have just released a video game about Crabs & Carcinization called Everything is Crab and we're hoping to spread the word of Crab to fellow enthusiasts!

It's a 2D PixelArt based Animal Evolution Roguelite game where you start off as a little blob each run and evolve into many weird and wonderful creatures while the world around you becomes more crab-like (and yes you can fully become a crab yourself if you choose! 🦀) The game has a deeply layered gameplay around 125+ different types of real world Evolution (some crab, some not).

I'm posting here today as a dev of the game because we just released the game yesterday and would like to share the news of that with people who may have an overlapping interest!

If you're a gamer who loved Spore and/or modern Roguelites, then this might just be your cup of tea!

It's currently available on:

Thanks for your time and keep Crabbing on!

P.S. The attached pictures are just some examples of what kind of creature you can create (there's well over a million different combinations you can visually become with a ton of different gameplay playstyles you can lean into)
