June Hobby Guide: looking to fill some gaps...

I've gotten some great input from Bushwick redditors in the past, so please let me know if you have any hobby happenings (dj classes, mahjong workshops, pickleball clinics etc) coming up that I can include in next month's roundup!

I tend to only include experiences that will really help someone dive into a new hobby and gain enough skill/community to feel equipped to keep going, but you know of shorter experiences (less than 2 hours), I can still include those in the weekly emails.

Thanks in advance 😄

New management company

Does anyone have a management company for their building that they like and would recommend for others? Looking for a team that is thorough, knowledgeable and responsive as I own/live in an older building (100+ years old) and we are constantly battling repairs!

The Brower Park farm stand is back!

I was so excited to see them this morning! Please support and buy some veggies/fruit if you can on Thursdays. They accept EBT and have tap to pay available.

Why does this happen

When there is a down pour this happens to my sinks. The landlord said it’s from outside drainage, but it’s only the new sinks that were put in. This doesnt happen in the bathroom sink or the downstairs sink. I called
The plumber that put in the sinks, he also says it’s from the city. Anyone have any insights?

An SUV and a short school bus collided into each other (somehow). No one at the scene appeared to be hurt.

Good Affordable Internet Providers

Hello,
I will be moving to a studio around the Franklin street area.
Who are some affordable internet providers with reliable service you recommend? I don’t need ultra high download rate. Maybe I play a video game once in a blue moon.
They said we can get Verizon spectrum or optimum.

Vicious dog attack

I was walking my dog along Bergen by the Woods Playground (between Utica and Rochester).

A bunch of people were hanging out and had a huge white dog with brown markings and a red leash/harness.

This dog attacked my dog causing significant damage to his leg and requiring an expensive Emergency vet visit.

Just posting so other neighborhood dog owners keep an eye out. Shitty irresponsible dog owners drive me crazy.

Intersection of Franklin and Fulton - someone tried to grab me

Hi all,

I'm a NYC native but new to bed stuy, moved here in February. I'm near Atlantic and Franklin. Might also cross post in Crown heights as I know this is considered borderline neighborhood wise.

To go to the train, I have to walk on Franklin between Atlantic and Fulton. I get the Franklin C.

In the last 3 weeks I've noticed an extreme uptick in the amount of people - primarily homeless men - loitering constantly by the bus benches. I'm guessing the nicer weather has to do with it.

As a small woman, its honestly been extremely intimidating to walk the like 2 blocks I need to walk home. But - nothing ever happened really until Sunday night.

Sunday around 9 PM I was ordering Halal from that cart that's right there and someone attempted to grab me while I was talking to the cart worker about my food. I pretty much immediately bolted away, not running, but walked as fast as possible. Called my boyfriend because I needed someone to be talking to me while I walked because I was freaking out. In retrospect, calling might have been bad - another thing to grab me and rob me for.

Left my plate of food, didn't pay for it. I feel bad about that.

Feeling really shaken by this.

Do other people familiar with the area feel like this is a one-off instance or should I expect more problems? I can deal with people trying to talk to me and me politely saying no and keeping it moving, but this was an attempt at probably robbing me physically.

It would be a little out of my way but debating going to the other way and walking up Classon to get to Atlantic instead for now on, especially at night. If anyone can speak to how that stretch is, please let me know - I think it should be fine from what I've seen.

Alternatives to picking up prescriptions besides the St John’s Pl Walgreens?

Service here sucks - not saying the staff are pricks but it’s pretty clear they’re overwhelmed and it takes 30 minutes to an hour to get anything done here. Are there any other pharmacies off the 2 or 3 lines you would recommend?

Missed Connection: A Train Roller Skater with the Gun Show

This is absolutely a long shot, but it feels worth trying because the vibe was vibing and Reddit has solved stranger mysteries.

To the gorgeous Black man in black roller skates who rode the A from Manhattan to Brooklyn and got off at Nostrand: Earth tones. Maybe army green pants? A sleeveless cut-off and the only kind of gun show I support on the subway. The nose piercing. The whole fit. You had no business looking like that on public transit.

I noticed you as soon as you got on, but I was overheated, not looking or feeling my best, fully in “please do not perceive me” mode, and yet there we were, definitely catching each other looking.

We both got off at Nostrand. I ducked into Wholesome Farms Market. You were somehow gliding out right as I was walking in, and we made eye contact and smiled. Then I immediately tripped on the kicked-up rug, because apparently the universe wanted to humble me. So smooth, I know.

I assumed you’d skated off into the Brooklyn night forever but I walked outside and spotted you cruising half a block ahead. I hoped you might turn around, but no dice. You kept rolling, I kept walking, and now here I am, writing a missed connection on a neighborhood subreddit like it’s 2009 Craigslist.

If, on the off chance, you see this, are single, and felt the vibe too, shoot me a message. I’d love a second chance to not trip over a rug and actually say hello lol

Dog sitters who service the neighborhood?

Our last dog sitter moved to Philly and we need someone new and trustworthy. We have two dogs and one has severe separation anxiety so they would need to either come to our place or have a safe spot to keep them. Any recommendations appreciated.
