Why doesn't my house smell like Ritz Carlton?

I absolutely love the smell of high end spas or stores like Pier 1 Imports and such. I had several of those small brown bottles of essential oils that I had around the house from god-knows-where and I would pour them into my portable swamp cooler and the whole house would permeate with these uplifting scents. But I know these oils are not good for swamp coolers. So I went down the essential oil rabbit hole and ended up spending $100 on 2 diffusers and $180 on 5 oils on Amazon.

I got eucalyptus, lavender, lemongrass, bergamot & sandalwood. I set up the diffusers and set up several bottles with reed diffuser sticks. I was ready to make my house smell glorious.

Boy, was I disappointed! For some reason, I could not smell anything. The only way I could smell anything was to literally put my nose right on top of the bottle. And the diffusers just didnt work right. Diffusers were spraying out very concentrated smells and the scent would not spread around too much. I did pour some of it into my swamp cooler and it did work much better than the bottle of the diffuser but it would eat up 16 ozs of oils in a matter of few days. Besides, swamp cooler is not made for this purpose and I cant have the swamp cooler in every room.

SO..... What am I doing wrong? Did I get some cheap oils?

Help a beginner out 😅

Hi everyone! I'm new to using essential oils and could use some advice.

I've been dealing with sore throat & stuffy nose, and I'm hoping to create a relaxing bedtime routine so I wake up feeling more rested. I'm thinking about getting both a diffuser and a humidifier, but I'm not sure what diffuser brands work especially well with high-quality essential oils like Eden Botanicals.

I'm planning to start with Eden Botanicals' sample sizes since essential oils can get expensive 😅. I'd rather try a few before committing to full bottles and avoid spending money on oils that end up not being a good fit for me.

A few questions:

Is there a diffuser brand or model you would recommend for Eden Botanicals essential oils?

Would lavender, eucalyptus, and peppermint be a good starter trio for nighttime, especially for a stuffy nose, or would you recommend different oils?

Do you run a diffuser and a humidifier at the same time, or is that unnecessary?

Are there any beginner tips or mistakes I should know about before getting started?

I'd love to hear what has worked well for you. Thanks in advance!

Does anyone can recommend some essential oils with extremely high viscosity? Appreciated to rank them. Also, some features such as density and concentration would be appreciated to list down!

From my image, higher viscosity oils means better scents joy. However, related knowledge about essential oils is insufficient. So, I am here to ask help! Thank you!

I love the smell of fresh peach, but because I have animals. I can't have candles. What would be the best brand of essential oil for peach?

Authentic rosehip oil?

I have one rosehip oil each from Mountain Rose Herbs and from Wholesale Botanicals.

I was about to infuse some mugwort and had to mix the two oils because I didn't have enough of one to make the infusion. I noticed that the one from MRH has a dark orange color and the one from WB is clear. The difference in colors prompted me to Google what color should authentic rosehip oil have and the results stated that authentic rosehip oil is golden amber to a deep red-orange.

Now I'm wondering if the one from WB is even authentic. See picture

Haul for the day!

These are Frankincense seretta, Opoponax, Myrrh, and Roman Chamomile. I got them from Aromatics International. My favorite is the Opoponax. I have the resin I use as incense and this is a good alternative to smell the resin without all the smoke. (Not that I don’t also love the resin incense.) The Roman Chamomile I’m going to be using for headaches. The Myrrh is sweet, bitter, and dry. Beautiful scent. Frankincense seretta was a bit of a surprise. I find it spicier than the normal Boswellia Carterii.

They all have many properties for health and well-being. I will be using these to inhale for their properties. I may get a carrier oil and make hand balms, or maybe a diffuser. So happy with my purchase!

Essential oil brands

So I have been using the essential oils from the company MUJI. It’s a lifestyle brand from Japan and I love their scents but they don’t have a flagship store where I live at and their online selection kinda sucks because it doesn’t have the ones I want so I’m wondering what is a great top brand that I can 1. Go to a store and pick up, or 2. Order online with exceptional quality.

I don’t need a topical use, it’s mainly for my diffuser. I tried the Whole Foods brand and it’s not as potent in terms of smells.

Covering up cannabis smell in salve

I have a salve mix that I have been making for years for myself and a couple of friends with neuropathy. The ingredients are:

Cannabis buds, dried and decarbed

Rosemary leaves, fresh

Frankensence resin

Refined Coconut Oil

Sunflower Lethican

The cannabis strain that I used this time seems to be a lot stinkier, and one of my elderly friends asked if I could add an EO to mask the skunkiness. She suggested lemon, mint, or vanilla. I didn't think vanilla would make any difference, but I tried a small sample with Wintergreen and it is still very skunky. Any suggestions?

If I can't find anything, I will just make a new batch with a milder strain, but I would rather not have to do that. I appreciate any ideas I can get from this group and will also cross post to r/trees.

Do essential oils damage/discolor fabric?

I have a stuffed bunny and I'm thinking of putting some essential oils on, his ears are very long and I think itd be cool to put some oil on the ends so i can sniff them while hes on my lap or while im holding him, but I'm worried they might like... hurt him in some way lol.

The one I'd use would probably be sandalwood, if that matters. I could also just find some diffuser earrings for him instead I suppose.

Oils that actually WORK for food smells

When family visits, then so does cooking, and the following was tested in a 1100²ft place which unfortunately has no kitchen ventilation or Hood.

Every time cooking took place, the smell lingered for 1+ days, no matter what we did. So we started playing around with opening doors, using air purifiers, carbon activated filters, etc.

We had read about boiling vinegar, and this does in fact work, but Vinegar has a strong smell. Eventually, we came down to the following formula which eliminates most of the food smell, and completely, when aided with the following setup:

  1. 30-60 minutes before we start cooking, we prepare: 10 drops of Eucalyptus Globulus, 10 drops of Tea Tree oil, 10 drops of peppermint, and 10 Drops of either LemonGrass, Lemon or Grapefruit. We initiate the diffuser and set it to Auto which usually lasts about 4-5 hours.
  2. Air Purifier runs quietly on low above fridge - AMEIFU H13 Hepa Double-Sided Air Filter Purifier (Amazon).
  3. We pry a door open just a little bit to allow some of the air to circulate outside.
  4. We turn on the downstairs bathroom exhaust fan.
  5. Central AC runs normally.

This does not eliminate the odor immediately, however it neutralizes the majority of it and in a few hours it is gone. I know there's many on here saying that essential oils don't do this, but every day that we have tried it during cooking (chicken, fish, baking cookies, etc) it works wonderfully. The other steps helped, but the essential oils was the nail in the coffin for the smells. The trick is to place it as far away from the AC return as possible so it circulates around. in the room - preferably close to the kitchen. A second, smaller diffuser may be added upstairs or in another hallway, or if your returns are upstairs, in the area around the stairs so the AC pulls the oil smell upstairs as well.

Hope this helps someone out there and glad to answer any questions.
