Why is the nintendo community like that?

They feel like a sect.

They defend the company even for bad thing and doesn't accept criticism as all.

I'm on the playstation and xbox sub too and it's not like that at all.

My Criticisms for Tomodachii LTD

I wanted to share my criticism and experiences after spending hours into Tomodachii: LTD (playing since Day One) and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Inventories: Can't Resell + No "Buy This?" Confirmation Button

One of the biggest criticisms that I have towards the game is the inventory system. It's super flawed. There's no system to sell unwanted clothing items. There's no mechanics to allow you to take clothes or treasure from the Miis inventory.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons allows you to sell off anything in your inventory. If this new Tomodachii Life has been in development for quite a long time, I don't understand how they missed this mark.

I have very old joycons that has the inevitable Drift. So, that has led to me accidentally purchasing more items than just one or two. I can't sell these off, and the game punishes you for accidentally having more in your inventory. So that's more than one character I have to hand off unwanted clothing items.

Loitering: My House Has Better Decorations Than Yours

One of the most annoying features is that Miis don't spend time within their house's outdoors if they asked you to place items in that proximity. They'll always visit OTHER Mii's houses and have hangouts there, despite it not being their home.

If you try to drag a Mii from loitering around in front of someone's house, they'll keep coming back to that spot.

Not sure what Nintendo was thinking about this one.

Inventory Issues

With the Miis inventory, there is no reward for upgrading how much space that they have. My island level is towards the 400s, and yet, there's still no increase of the slots for all Miis who can only hold 9 objects at a time.

What is the point of the Miis collecting items if it's destined to be lost in their inventory? The ACNH Villagers were able to hold much more in their pocket with infinite hammerspace.

I don't remember the ANCH Villagers having a problem with what they're given, either. The system in general doesn't make sense, and allow me to explain this further.

There are some items that certain Miis disliked. For example, one of my Miis a unicorn. The flavor text says, "They're not sure if it's a good fit for them." In the next cutscene where they're sad, they're using said unicorn as a comforting pet or stares at it every time they have a chance to sit down.

Relationships and Friendships: Development sees "fighting" as more interactive and rewarding than positive upgrades

A very stark difference between the Villagers and the Miis is that they can choose to upgrade/downgrade their relationship levels at will without the player's interference.

In Tomodachii Island, you're only able to help them *boost* their relationships but they don't willingly upgrade on their own.

The game's coding leans heavily towards starting fights. In frank, this is a huge oversight. If the Miis are able to cause more fights with each other on the island, then they should allow friendships and relationship to be boosted on their own.

The time management that goes into this game is a huge wasted potential. I'd like to spend more time customizing items for the Miis, floors, walls, etc, but I'm constantly on the lookout to see who has the next mental breakdown.

If Miis are starting to regularly fight more often, I will just delete the Mii and restart their progress. There's no point in keeping a Mii that refuses to assimilate (as bad as it sounds). I dislike losing progress on the island simply because a Mii is throwing hands with other Miis.

Romance: Not Dead, but Not Functional

Couples cannot stay together for more than a day if you don't tend to them or do tend to them. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Another flawed mechanic is how most, if not all, non-romance mechanics don't keep Miis happy with each other in relationships. It's more difficult to get a romance cutscene now.

Miis who are in relationships spends a lot of time with Ultra Friends and tends to ignore their Spouse. I'm not sure if that's what Nintendo intended, but I've had almost all of my couples sharply decrease to "in love" while their spouse is still in the "soulmates" status.

There should be more interactions that would be worth boosting. The "drag them so they like each other" feature is starting to be repetitive. It's also a lot of work down the drain because the Miis can find each other boring at any time... It's really weird.

Cutscenes that brings Miis together: Watching TV, washing dishes and cooking together, playing songs on the guitar, jogging together - None of these give Miis happiness nor improves relationships within their circles.

Giving them the travel ticket doesn't do anything. It boosts the individual Mii's happiness, but it won't apply for those within their household nor their relationships.

For Miis who are ex-friends, it takes an awfully long time to get back together. The RNG cutscenes are much longer compared to when they were first strangers.

There are also certain Miis whose influence makes other Miis' relationships go sour. If a Mii cannot cheer up a sad/depressed friend, they also will get influenced with that depression. If the newly depressed Mii is attempted to be comforted by a friend or spouse, it fails and then those Miis are also depressed.

These issues are what leads me to believe that Nintendo planned to have more antagonistic takes on friendships solely for shock value. It's not a great way to keep the player engaged.

I wish there was a feature that lets you set the statuses for relationships and friendships altogether, or allows a peaceful mode.

Custom Designs: Severely Limited

I've played with ACNH long after the craze ended as it was one of the very few games that allows me to share my artwork with the rest of the Nintendo Community and also download others' designs. (I haven't played it within this or last year, but I can check to see if anything has changed.)

I can sink lots of hours into making several shirts, house designs, food, and pets. But what's the point if no one else can see your designs, or if you want to share it with friends?

The only friend sharing feature would be exchanging Miis. Other than that, there's nothing else that can be done.

Miis' Depression: Repetitive Asks for Island Furniture, Moving Away from Spouses

Lots of the times, my Miis will refuse to be active. They live a very sedentary life when left alone, and that causes their relationships with other Miis to go sour if left unchecked.

They refuse to budge if their new piece of furniture doesn't get installed. They won't budge if they want more plants, streetlamps, road signs.

They refuse to stay in a house where they're already married to someone. more Miis are happy to move out to live with their friends. It's really weird.

I don't find it problematic if their prompt is for playing a minigame or feeding them food. But I've now started playing without a need to look at their thought bubbles unless it's pink (romance) or red (fighting). I don't feel an obligation to if they're going to keep requesting for their own microtransactions with very little to give in return.

In Conclusion:

Due to the severe limits that Nintendo's work on this, I've considered returning the game several times as the initial excitement period for my first ever Tomodachii game has faded.

I sometimes dread playing the game because it means I won't be able to spend a lot of time making custom items (which is supposed to be the main highlight of the clothing mechanic).

This development feels very rushed and lacks a lot of potential. From Breath of the Wild (getting OP weapons to have them break), Animal Crossing New Horizons (being unable to have non-breakable weapons and inventory limits for the player) to Tomodachii Island (severely flawed relationship mechanics) - It's very telling that Nintendo had to rely on a lot of nostalgic value to lure players into the profit zone.

For now, I'll switch between playing ACNH for a more relaxing experience and switch to Tomodachii if it's for custom item creation.

My Tips for Those Who Want a Quieter Experience:

  • For Miis who fight others too often, quarantine them. Place them in their house and then surround the house with fences. Those quarantined Miis will be able to interact with others when your console goes to sleep/quitting the game, but they won't cause physical trouble if your game is on.
  • Romance RNG: These are the top locations for starting a romance cutscene - fireworks, next to each other (I love you this much dialogue, caught you dialogue), place them in the restaurant to start a conversation with each other, keep them within their homes most of the time.
  • Feeling Overwhelmed with Tracking Mii Behavior: Block off the Miis' access to the rest of the island. Customize the ground into a lawn with outdoor toys, decorations, and makeover their interior home to a central theme. This will keep them occupied until you're ready to let them back out. If they try walking beyond a door or fence, there's a flavor text that says, "It seems that Mii is unable to find their way." This also keeps spouses more happier with each other, and more likely to get cutscenes of them getting involved with domestic life.
  • Keep their stomachs fully fed: A happy stomach means Miis will remain calm until they meet someone who upsets them.
  • Let their close friends visit the house and drop them off when the hangouts are done.
  • Playing the game without music: For those who experience audio sensory issues.

No, Nintendo is not as bad as Sony and Microsoft.

I've seen a lot of posts recently that are saying that even after Sony's decision to kill physical media, Nintendo is somehow as bad as them. As someone who is literally a self described Palworld fanboy, I hate to say it, but this is just objectively not true with so many factors as to why.

(THIS IS NOT JUSTIFICATION FOR WHAT NINTENDO DOES BTW)

Switch 2 is $450? Xbox Series S is $500, PS5 is $600.

Nintendo charges $20 for online? Sony charges $88, with another price hike on the way.

Nintendo has Game Key Cards? So has Xbox and PlayStation for over a decade, and they at least tell you.

Nintendo bricks consoles? Since when??? And the terms in the EULA are literally the same as Sony.

So much of what Nintendo does, Sony either does and usually in a far worse degree, but it never gets covered because Nintendo hate is way more popular.

In my opinion, the worst thing Nintendo has done is the Palworld lawsuit, which if they won, could've genuinely fucked over the whole monster catching genre by allowing Nintendo to basically own it via patents. But even then - they've basically lost it, Palworld will be perfectly fine, and Nintendo's chances of winning anything are basically 0. And even as someone who is again, a self described Palworld fanboy, I would still consider the death of physical media by Sony worse, as it will have massively bigger ramifications and will hurt every genre across all of gaming... and also will hurt Palworld.

Besides, Nintendo doesn't do layoffs, is at the very least, neutral on AI compared to Sony and Microsoft funding it directly, and is overall, a far better company than those 2. That doesn't make Nintendo good - but seriously, stop saying they're as bad as Sony or Microsoft.

Nintendo responded to an investor about Gen AI use. Somewhat denying, somewhat dodging. What do you think?

Note: I am aware of the legal ramifications that would come with lying to investors and thus believe that they aren't using it. I know people here will come up with reasons/ways they could be lying though, so I'm curious about the responses. I'm also not counting stuff like localization simply due to lack of poll options and no way to make the poll allow multiple choices.

Q13 With developments such as the establishment of AI-related laws in the EU, how does Nintendo view and respond to the use of generative AI trained without permission from rights holders, and to the risk of intellectual property infringement caused by generative AI?

A13 Furukawa: We are aware that with the rapid evolution of AI technology, countries and regions are moving forward with the establishment of laws and regulations related to AI. Nintendo will comply with these laws and regulations, and we intend to appropriately protect our intellectual property in accordance with the law. In the game industry, technologies similar to AI have long been used, for example for the movement of opposing characters, so game development and AI technology have always had areas of close connection. These days, generative AI can be used for even more creative purposes, but we recognize that it also presents issues in areas such as intellectual property rights and power consumption. Regardless of whether generative AI is used, if Nintendo determines that something infringes on Nintendo IP, our policy is to respond appropriately, and we have no plans to change this policy. Nintendo IP did not originate as standalone characters. It was created and nurtured in connection with the unique forms of play that Nintendo has developed. We will maintain our strengths by continuing to create unique forms of play.

Need to decide between a Switch 2 and a used Steam Deck LCD 256GB. What are your opinions?

I already own a PS5 and a very decent gaming laptop I was able to pick up at Black Friday. I am looking to treat myself as my birthday was 1st July. I have my eyes set on a Nintendo Switch 2 for 450 USD (I do have Zelda BOTW, Mario Kart 8 and Pokemon Sword lying around honestly didn’t play them as Switch 1 felt worse than me playing on my PS Vita back in 2012/13)

I want a device solely to play while chilling in my bed, lying down just story games nothing will be played online or competitive for that I stick to PS5 and PC gaming.

My only big concern is the games and their costs on Nintendo Switch 2 like from what I read they barely put any sales so fuck nintendo
Even my PS5 has some very decent sales on games different times of the year
Yet apparently even Breath of the Wild after all these years still sells at MSRP on nintendo shop

Steam Deck has the advantage of having games being way cheaper but I don’t like the fact it is already 4 years old hardware and doesn’t exactly add new games just gives the ability to play them online

Note: I don’t travel too much its more for playing while chilling.

Do you think Nintendo will copy Sony in the future and stop making key cards?

I could see them doing it to save money in the future when Xbox and Sony phase out discs.

GKCs & $80 Games Say Hi

I don’t get how is Nintendo saving the industry again when it was a different time. Nintendo is going full digital in 10 years from now and you’ll hear the internet cry over it.

GKCs Still Blows

Sony is abandoning physical media doesn’t mean I’ll forgive Nintendo for starting to kill physical media

How do Nintendo fans act like 10 hours content at max is worth 50 bucks??

So Nintendo recently released yet another Star Fox remake and i see many people praising it yet they it has max 8-10 hours of content???

Like what iam missing here since when is a 10 hour game (what includes replaying the story since the story is barely 2 hours) worth 50 bucks?

If a game costs 50 bucks i at least want it to be 20/25 hours can anyone explain why nintendo fans justify this to me it seems a little bit expensive for how little time it takes to beat the game

Why is everyone praising steam for not giving a shit about piracy when they have nothing to lose from it?

Steam is a cool company, but they aren't your friend, they make decisions for their own profit. The reason gabe can be so nonchalant about "piracy being a service problem" is cos he doesn't lose from you pirating. Valve puts out a game 3 to 4 times a decade at best, so it's not them taking losses when you pirate every game.

They offer devices that can be jailbroken and used for pirating, but that's not hurting them, it's hurting the Devs who made the game you pirate. Steam never put in the years and capital to make that game, they just host it.

You can argue Nintendo doesn't give you jailbreaking rights to the switch, but they make games , and they publish games, they can't lose money on their main product. The 3rd party devs who do Nintendo exclusives don't have to worry about their game getting pirated for 5 years at least. Nintendo might be anti consumer , but they still protect their Devs .
