Ratings/Reviews and Tags.

How do y’all rate/review series and tag them? Do you do it for each book? I had started out doing it that way then figured maybe to keep it cleaner, do the whole series rating and utilize the tags on the first book only? It’s the worst when the first book in a series is good but the following stink so I’d hate to rate it 4+ stars when the rest are just trash and it’s better to just dnf.

What is up with this goodreads author?

I might be missing something here, but I'm really confused right now and I wonder if anyone here can shed some light. I'm not super into goodreads besides using it once a couple of months to log my reading, so I have no idea if this is a common thing or what is happening here, but I'm curious. There is a goodreads page I stumbled on by acciddent that I can't make heads or tails of. They're a goodreads author (their url is author/show, not user/show like it is for regular users), but all their books are nonsense books all titled the same way (They're called Test Book followed by random nouns). They're unavailable for purchase, and they're all exactly 1000 pages. Clearly, they're not real books. Looking at the statistics for the books posted, they all seem to have been uploaded in december 2025 (even though at least one of the books proports to have been published in 2018). Almost all of the books have between five and twenty reviews, and some have a lot of comments/reviews. Some of them read like spam (ie user with one review and a generic name gives a book five stars and says "good book"), however, other seem to have been written by active users with many reviews for other, normal books. Some comments also seem to be sarcastic/joking, as they reference the title of the book, or the author. The comments also vary in when they were posted. I might be misreading the statistics page, because a lot of the comments were made before the books were published. There are comments from between 2020 and a few weeks ago. I also noticed that a lot of the users commenting were from the same state, and were created in the same month. The author page is also nonsense (he says he was born over 500 years ago, has an obviously joking backstory, etc.) but I guess this can just be someone's humor. Has this page been hacked, or is this one person just making a ton of users and commenting on their own books for no good reason? How can this be a goodreads author with the stamp of approval next to their name if they have no real books?

How do you handle books you paused due to not being in the mood but plan to continue eventually?

I'm a mood reader, so it does occasionally happen that I'm starting a book only to not be in the mood for it after having read a certain amount of it. It's not a case for DNFing because I'm enjoying the book and plan to eventually continue reading it (whether I actually do that is a different story).

But I have no idea how to handle these books on Goodreads? Which shelf do you put them on? I created an extra shelf but since you have to choose from either one of the 4 main shelves, I've still put these books under currently reading.

It's making me crazy though to have several books there which I'm not actually currently reading but have paused. But to mark them as read or want to read wouldn't be right either.

I'd love some suggestions. Thank you!

Challenges / Bookmarks

It would be great if with the challenges that you could see which book unlocked which bookmark and for the annual challenge how many books were complete for each months bookmark and what they were.

Would love some stats on genres, time spent on books, fav author etc.

Cannot log in - need help

It has been months of me trying to log in via an email, and getting this message instead: https://imgur.com/a/NIZsLke

>There was a problem
An unexpected error has occurred. Please try your request again. If the problem persists, contact customer service.

If I had to guess, the problem has persisted close to a year now. I am writing to tech support regularly, and all I get it is "we know" and then silence for months on end. And I still cannot log in.

I've been registered there via the email, but just in case I've tried to log in via google, amazon, and facebook (all attached to the same email) to no avail.

I get password change emails just fine, and I can indeed change my password. But each time I try to log in, the same error pops up, and I have no idea what to do: nothing I do works or even hints at the issue at hand, and the support has been useless thus far giving no answer or helping out.

Solutions to bookbuddy into goodreads

Has anyone successfully transferred a large BookBuddy library into Goodreads?

I have 1200+ books logged in BookBuddy and can export everything as a CSV, but Goodreads imports only seem to work properly with Goodreads-format CSV files.

I already tried using LibraryThing as a middle step:

- imported my BookBuddy CSV into LibraryThing using Smart Import

- then exported from LibraryThing for Goodreads

…but LibraryThing couldn’t properly process all 1200+ books, so it didn’t work.

I really want to avoid manually rewriting or copying thousands of entries into the Goodreads spreadsheet template.

Does anyone know:

- a better conversion method?

- a script/tool that maps BookBuddy CSV columns to Goodreads format?

- an easier bulk import workaround?

Any help would seriously save me hours 😭

Goodreads not saving my added books in order.

Pardon me if I can't explain this well.

When I add a book to a shelf, it usually appears so that the latest is on top. It's not like that anymore. Idk what's happening but the order of the books is all out of place.

For it to be so that the latest book i added is on top, the order should be 'date added' correct? Cuz i have it on that and the order won't go back to normal it's all out of place.

This is upsetting becuase sometimes I save books to my "want to read" so I can remember to check them out later. But if the list is out of order I can't go and look for the books. My list is quite big(over 1000), so I can't just sift through.

I'm not sure if this is a goodreads issue or if my phone is malfunctioning.

Re-reading a book but a different edition?

If I read the 2nd edition of a book a few years ago and I now want to read the 3rd edition that’s come out, how do I put this into goodreads so that it shows on my challenge and I don’t lose my review, etc on the 2nd edition? Is it possible to do?

Have your views on DNFing changed with age?

I've seen conversations surrounding DNF on multiple sites recently and it got me thinking on how my own views have changed over the years.

I used to be a firm believer in that I will not DNF because that way I can at least be an informed hater but that was back in my teen years when I had far more time on my hands. Now that I am in my 30s with a senior leadership job position and other responsibilities I find that I just don't have the time to spend on a book that I'm not enjoying and DNF happily.

However, I will also admit there is some nuance at play even as an adult. Example: I am far more willing to a book that I've gotten from the library or Libby than I am a book I have purchased.

If I follow someone and they follow me back, would we become friends? Or would we stay mutual followers?

Basically the title, I hope it makes sense. Is being mutual followers with someone the same as being friends? Would they see my private account? I can't find a clear answer anywhere.

Idea: Challenge Prizes

I’ve become addicted to the Goodreads challenges, almost like achievements on steam. Maybe I am being greedy, but even a hat or bookmark would be awesome. It would be nice if Goodreads offered a free book for completing the very difficult/timely challenges (there’s some challenges that take 2+ years to complete of using this app.)

My insomnia makes me brainstorm. Share some cool ideas that you guys are doing with the challenges/motivation that would make you read more to complete challenges!

Keep ratings private?

So I am wondering if there is a way to have my own private rating and reviews. Some books are perfectly well written and good for what they are but I find them boring or they are just not my thing. I use good reads to keep track of what I have read and if I like a particular author.

I don’t want to give a bad rating to book that impacts what other people see when it is for reasons that are strictly a personal preference. For example- most vanilla romance is boring to me at this point. I will still pick them up because I like the variety. For a vanilla romance lover the book I just read is probably a 5 star- but it was kind of boring to me.

I could just not rate it but the only reason I keep tracking my reads is so I can remember if I read a book - or so I can see how I rated other books by an author when I am thinking of starting a new one.

Must-Listen during audible trial

I’ve already got Project Hail Mary on my list (assuming I can pick whichever books I want during the trial) of what to listen to when I start an audible trial, but what other two books should I listen to??

I primarily use Libby and sometimes Spotify for audiobooks, so if there’s any other audible exclusives I HAVE to experience, this is the time!!!

How can we check if a book is included in a challenge list?

What I’m asking is:

If I check a book on Goodreads, can I see if it’s in a list of any challenge? Or do I have to go to the challenge page and check all the lists to see if the book is included?
