Random new tag: "all"

I noticed I have a tag for "all". It wasn't there before, and I definitely didn't create it. There's no books added to it.

Does anyone else have it? I'm not sure why Goodreads would add it, but want to make sure nobody's gotten into my account or something like that (though I don't know why an intruder would create a tag like that).

Got hit with a broken promise, but I didn't make any promise... nor did I purchase any tiles recently.

Just got hit with this but... I haven't? A good many turns ago I was indeed told to stop purchasing new tiles near their border, to which I said I'd do whatever I wanted because I intended to rush for a couple more. So I didn't promise not to. I then rushed those tiles, and since then I haven't even bought any, so even if I'd made a promise since then there would be no reason for him to get mad now.

Is Harald just delusional or what's going on?

New player, unsure when warmonger penalties are worth it

This is a very broad question, I hope that's okay. I'm still learning the game and I'm running into this dilemma.

When do you take warmonger penalties, and when do you avoid them? Basically, when is it worth it to declare war or especially take or raze a city?

Context to what leads me to this question, for anyone who cares: when I started playing I very easily defaulted to "if it's in the way, just kill it". Then I recently played a peaceful game (barely any war and when at war a very calm and defensive approach, never taken any cities) and it was the most fun I've had. I just focussed on my relations with other nations and controlled the world through friendships and war bribes.

Now I meant to take a similar approach as the Iroquis going for a diplomacy victory (only type I haven't done yet), but the Maya are getting on my nerves and have been for a long time. They are very aggressively spreading their religion to all nations between us and also into my territory, often with 4 missionaries at a time and with prophets mixed in. This game is turning into some lame "bait and trap" game where most of my time is spent trying to keep away or lock in these Mayan missionaries.

I've tried to have the other AI take care of them, but those that are willing to declare war and actually fight it never end up actually taking a city, so while it hurts the Maya it doesn't do anything to fix the problem. I've declared war once to just wipe the religious units, and actually got a city next to their capital in the peace negotiation, which looks like a good place to attack them from. I could win the war, I have good standing with neighbouring nations and more money and military. And it's it was the only nation with a holy city on this continent, I could convert the whole continent to my religion without too much hassle, which seems like a big advantage.

I'm just worried that wiping the Mayas would hurt my relationships with other nations too much, especially Poland which I'm now on friendly terms with, but could actually really harm me if they felt like it. Then again, it's part of the game right..? Maybe I'm being too careful.

How do you function when the pain is bad

*I should disclaim I don't have a diagnosis yet, and maybe what I have isn't actually endo. My physician suspects it and has referred me to an endometriosis clinic to find out, I'm on the waiting list.

How do you do it when your life requires you to function but you're just constantly in pain?

I have university exams this week. The first is in 2 days in fact. I'm so behind. And now my period came back again. I spent all of last week in pain and super hormonal, I thought it was over a couple days ago. Silly me, because it never fucking is.

I'm in constant pain and it's just so exhausting. I'm used to it, handling the pain isn't the issue right now. But I just don't have the energy left for anything else. How am I supposed to focus on my study material when my attention is constantly drawn to the pain? When it goes on for such long stretches I just get so, so tired. It feels like I spend 50% of my life in pain and it's so draining.

I'm going to fail my exam if I don't get my shit together, but I just don't know how to anymore. All I can do about it is cry. It's been so bad all of this semester and I'm just spent. Now my last shreds of energy and suck-it-up-power are spent on pain, again.

How do you do it? When you HAVE to attend that work meeting, when you HAVE to meet that deadline, when you HAVE to pass that exam? Please tell me there's a way.

(I'm sorry if this post sounds whiney)

If I were to wipe/claim everything except this little island... what would they do?

Large map, warlord difficulty (don't judge this is my second game ever lol). No mods or DLC.

If I take all other land on the map, but leave this island alone, what would the AI do? Would they start attacking each other? The city-states? Would they take their loss and live in eternal harmony in their little chicken-realms? Or would they collectively declare war on me anyway?

I might try to find out but so far the AI's decisions kind of puzzle me most of the time, unless I find explanations in this sub. So I'm curious what people think.

How are you supposed to juggle multiple applications?

(Please note I'm in Europe, the Netherlands to be exact. Wasn't sure whether to tag as employment or academics...)

I'm currently applying for internships next year, to spec-ed schools. These schools tend to be very small and the internship manager (so who I'm applying to) is usually a teacher. This already gives a semi-personal vibe I'm struggling to navigate, but whatever, I'm managing.

I'm stressed about having to apply to multiple places at the same time. For a big company it wouldn't bother me, but these are small schools where every spot matters and contact is more friendly and casual.

I'm supposed to email multiple schools like they are the best school around, have them waste time on me and then tell them "nvm, I accepted another one"? Or worse, what if I get in with one school but I'm still waiting for a reply from the actual "best" (read: most interesting for my education) school?? What then? I can't tell them that.

I've tried to ask my mom but she's being frustratingly vague about it. She handles internship applications herself in her job, so you'd think she'd know what places want. But she just tells me to apply to multiple, and if I ask any hypotheticals she says "you'll deal with that when you get to it". Which in the past has always translated to "you'll be stressed until it happens, then when it happens you'll be entirely unprepared, you'll come to me completely freaked out and I'll semi-lovingly tell you you're a stress-chicken like you're silly for it".

I tried applying one-by-one in past years, but one year it caused me to be unable to find a place in time (thank god I had a year planned study delay anyway). Thanks to my university being slow and out of touch with the real world I couldn't have started the search any sooner either, as I needed documents they hadn't provided yet. I have to apply to multiple now.

Anyone here have experience with this? Some actual answers? Advice, reassurance?

"Thank you, I'll send it by x day"

Am I supposed to respond to that? It feels rude not to, but seems annoying if I fill up their inbox with a meaningless "thank you" before the book was even sent. It's such a non-issue, but for some reason not knowing whether to reply or not really stresses me out.

I buy books, mostly cheap, so I don't bother to haggle. Just purchase straight away, so there's no communication prior to this. Note that I do always say something like "received, thank you!" once I've picked it up. This is in NL btw, but the VintedNL sub is so dead it never even came to life.

(Also yes I'm autistic lol)
