AI requested I denounce their enemy?!?

I’ve been playing Civ V for 10+ years and don’t think I’ve ever seen this before (it works out that I’m amassing a naval fleet against Songhai right now)

Why no Tech Trading in Civ 5?

This was always a core part of diplomacy in prior versions, any idea why it was taken out?

Sometimes I think it would be nice to have it.

Start location mod for vanilla?

Hi,

Can anyone recommend a mod that allows all civs to start at their true locations on a world map? It should work on vanilla.

Who are your favorite Civs to play?

I have like only 90 hours in the game so far but I really enjoy the Huns. That extra production bonus on Pastures is really really good!

I like coastal empires but I hate maps which force you into Exploration policy.

Archipelago or Large Islands or Small Continents sound nice but not having inland cities doesn't feel as immersive as having a variety of terrain in the game.

How can I bait the AI into declaring war on me?

I’m currently the richest and most powerful nation in a 40-civ game, running both advanced units mods and improved AI mods. My current military backbone consists of 3 Carrier Strike Groups and 6 LHD Strike Groups. Instead of keeping them doomstacked, they are fully deployed and scattered across different zones of the map to project global power. The problem is, the enhanced AI is smart enough to look at my total military score and refuse to declare war. I want them to strike first. Since my fleet is spread out, is there a way to make the AI perceive these isolated strike groups as overextended or vulnerable? How can I bait a smarter AI into launching a coordinated strike against a superpower that is deployed worldwide?

Start location mod- Distance to other civs

Hey, does anyone know of a mod that will allow you to set distance to the other civ's start locations? For example, I went to start a new game but I keep getting my capital within 20ish hexes from another (restarted, same settings and get similar). My only solution so far was to pick an island or small continents map but the AI sucks on those based on my past experience.

Been trying on Pangea plus with 12 civs and 30 city states, balanced start set.

Just got DoW by the two civs that are severely behind everyone else. What could lead the AI to do such a move?

For context I was in a continent standard size immortal game and on like turn 280 and already ahead of everyone else in every metric by a decent margin and while I was expecting the second and third civs to try and attack me I got bamboozled and DoW by the two weakest civs in the game!

As expected they were not really capable of doing any significant damage (or any damage for that matter) but I found it quite an interesting situation as this never happened for me before. They even aknowledged how superior I was in their war monologue but still said something along the lines of " but I am still attacking you anyways".

So I was wondering what type of situation or variables would push the AI to make such a decision?

Pasture Yield Question

Been playing Civilization V for a long time, Brave New World not so long, so I'm quite sure why the pastures in one city are giving two culture but the one in my capital is giving two culture. What am I missing?

Edit: Learned that Religious Tolerance can basically double your pantheon. Thanks!

Second city's pastures

On the Subject of My Mods

Hey Folks, it’s ExplosiveWatermelon here. I was a prolific Civ 5 modder for roughly 8 years. You may have seen my posts on this subreddit. I say *was* because I have since removed most of my mods from the workshop and have somewhat retired. Let me explain why.

I don’t want to get too specific, but for the past 8 years, I’ve been harassed and vilified by other modders in the community. I want to be open about this; they will probably show up in this thread to just claim that I’m a bully or abuser. This has been a trend for years.

I’ve been told by other modders to kill myself, and I’m not the only one who has received this sort of treatment, but I can only speak on the treatment I have faced. I struggled with suicidal ideation for years because of the bullying I received from certain figures. The greatest extent of this was when a modder who I won’t name wrote a song reciting a public mental health episode I had, and then shared it publicly. I tried speaking up about this modder’s harassment, and was summarily victim blamed and ostracized. I’ve attached a whole slideshow of images my friends and I compiled of these modders trash-talking me on the /r/CivAIGames discord and other spaces.

Whatever you think of me, or my work, I don’t really care at this point. I’m exhausted. I’ve gone through so many avenues to just stop this bullying, and nothing has worked. As such, I’m giving up- I’ve taken down a majority of my mods, and am relinquishing any claims on projects I was working on.

The reason I’m making this is to clarify why my mods are now gone from the workshop. You don’t have to believe me about any of this, and in fact I suspect a lot of folks will be upset at me for one reason or another. But as of now, I quit.

Yours truly,

ExplosiveWatermelon (Kazia)

Insane start in 6 FFA multiplayer

R5: joined a multiplayer lobby, didn't expect to get such a good start:

2 luxes instantly, min 1 lux per city, rushed Petra (5 tiles) with Liberty Engineer finisher. First religion, lots of gold income. x2-x3 production compared to opponents, almost top science. 8 cities in total eventually. An inner sea with a possibility to drop one more canal-city and enter the ocean.

Which victory should I choose?

For once, I've gotten myself into a situation where basically any victory is possible. I'm around turn 400 on a standard speed game (emperor difficulty) and have a commanding lead in everything, and it's just a question of whether I would rather end the game and collect the time bonus or try and run up the score by conquest.

If I go for a space victory, I could probably be done in like 30 turns, and probably 10-20 more if I go for domination. I should be able to secure a diplomatic victory in around 15 turns or so. My gut says to go for the domination since I'm playing as the Huns and it would be the most personally satisfying, but I also would like to try and maximize my score. Thoughts?

Getting started early

Getting him fired up about civ at 5 years old.

I started civ 1 when I was maybe 12 years old, I remember using the hex editor to edit my save files and changing some value to give me unlimited gold. Fun!

Civ 5 @ 5

We won the first duel quick game verses Egypt. Kind of nice all the freebies you get when playing settler difficulty mode. I’m so used to deity it was a nice break actually.

You ever just...

Sometimes I need to pay for these expansionists to be locked up in a prison(fort), and guarded 24/7 to ensure no more settlers shall be sent this way.

*FLUFF*

China just declared war on Persia whom I had a defensive pact with... Sadly I might have to let this guy go free in order to defend myself...

Conquering cities in Civ5 might be strange but it makes this game great.

Hello. Civilization 5 is one of my favorite games of all time and Civilization 6 was a complete miss for me. Two,,strange and controversial" mechanics from Civ5 which might be a little strange provide a good balanced experience. I am talking about happiness and the fact that after conquering a city all but 1 citizen die and all the structures are destroyed. It is extremely strange and unrealistic but... it makes this game better because it unables snowballing. In Civ 6 the more cities you conquer the stronger you become but in Civ 6 conquering cities is mainly a cost, a negative to your economy. You don't get any economical benefits because all pops and buildings are gone plus the occupation decreases your global happiness. Conquering cities is not about growing but about destroying the danger of other countries.

Settling a new city would be a better idea but at some point there is no more free space, destroying the conquered city and settling a new one on its place would remove the occupation negative but raizing cities is a warcrime and AI would imidiately hate you. Fighting enemies is not a way to grow, it is a way of danger prevention and in order to grow you still need to manage your country well and not fight others. After some time the conquered cities will start to provide economic growth of course but at the beginning it is more of a negative.

This mechanic might be illogical but it has created one of the best antisnowball systems ever.

In the case of happiness I don't even know what was the issue. It is a very logical and fun mechanic keeping empires in check. A very balanced system.

Where would you settle guys?

South-west tile, hill on a river next to mountain seems like a no-brainer to me, but maybe my logic is flawed?

Where would you settle and why?

2-year Civ V player here… just had my mind changed by a Germany Deity guide

Hey everyone,
I’ve been playing Civ 5 for about 2 years now. I’m not new-new, but I’ve mostly been learning on my own, just playing, making mistakes, restarting, and trying to figure things out as I go.
Recently I watched a collab guide (RoughMercies + Babolutherking) where they played Germany on Deity and honestly… it kind of blew my mind.
What really hit me wasn’t just the strategy itself, but how they explained everything. Every small decision mattered. Every turn had weight. Things I used to just autopilot—like clicking “next turn”—suddenly felt like I was missing half the game.
They really broke things down in a way that made me see Civ 5 differently. Like, it’s not just about building up an empire, it’s about constantly making small decisions that add up over time. Even tiny details start to matter when you actually understand what’s going on.
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to them for the guide. It genuinely changed how I look at the game.

Is there any way to get achievements while playing with mods?

Want to eventually 100% the game but playing the unbalanced base game state would be a bit of drag.

Happiness mod?

Is there a mod for civ 5 that relaxes or disables the happiness? I would like to go wide but happiness causes me to raze cities instead of occupy/ puppet it
