One tank of fuel over 2 months of daily driving - 1113 KM @ 4.4 L/100km / 53 MPG

Hey! I own a 2008 Volvo V50 1.6d manual (that's a completely champion of a practical workhorse) and just completed 65 days of daily driving on one tank (1.05.2026 - 4.07.2026). Completed 1113,4 km (the trip display went to 0 after 999 km, so the 113.4 you see in the picture is without the first 1000 km showing), then filled up the tank back up to the brim 49.23 liters, giving us a calculated real world long term average of 4.42 liters per 100 km or 53 MPG (US) / 64 MPG (Imperial). The car itself is a little more optimistic as you can see, but that's why I prefer the calculated average.

The goal of the experiment was to see the hypermiling effects over a long term basis instead of one ideal conditions long drive, so this is through different temperatures, different weather, early morning to late evening drives, all mixed together. The climate here in the north end of Europe has been between as low as 7 °C in May to as high as 30 °C in June.

Filled the tank on 1st of May 2026 and used the car for my daily driving until yesterday, 4th of July. This period did not see any long highway drives, so is mainly made up of my rather short daily driving to work and other daily trips when necessary, so the average daily length per drive is between 5 and 10 km. I do live outside of the city, so most drives experience very little traffic (I did end up in at least one very heavy traffic jam in the city back in May where I spent somewhere around 45 minutes in a stop and go traffic jam over several kilometers). I do use cruise control a lot, but take over on inclines to change gear and manage the engine load better, also trying to glide as much as possible before I know I have to stop or turn off the road I am on. I have tried pump and glide, but can't quite get the feel for it in a way that feels beneficial.

This means that a lot of the driving is done in less than ideal engine temp etc. On a long highway stretch the car averages around 3.7 L / 100 KM, but this was not the goal of the experiment. Overall I am very pleased with the result, I am sure the car has even more in it and would be interesting to match these results with a tank of fuel spent on mainly highway drives. Thanks for reading!

Yaris mk2 Diesel MPG in Local Driving

Hi all, I have a Yaris mk2 2007 (U.K 🇬🇧) MMT (multimode semi-auto) 1.4D (Diesel) which has done around 101000 miles.
I drive it locally daily for around 10 minutes to get to work which has a mix of 20-30mph roads, few turns and traffic lights.
I’m always getting around 29mpg for my fuel economy.
I bought it at around 98000 miles so don’t know how it was before.

I’ve tried Redex Fuel System Cleaner but didn’t make a huge difference.
Looking at some posts I think it for the small engine it should be getting around 40mpg.

I have also relearned the gearbox as the car lost its creep and the gears would rev a lot when it downshifted. Relearning fixed the gearbox but not the mpg.
My yearly service is coming close so could engine oil be affecting mpg

Anything I could to help increase the mpg.

Excess miles

Im leasing a 2024 Air Touring, for 3 years, 15k/year.
I touched 35k recently and still have 14 months left on the lease.
Need advice on how should I proceed.
I love driving the car and I expect to reach 60k by end of lease term if I do not change the way I’m operating.

The residual value on the contract is $53k.
I plan to buy the car at the end of lease provide Lucid is open to negotiate the value.

If not, should I stop using the vehicle for to keep it under the limit?
What has been others experience on Lucid open to reduce the buyout price?
Or should I keep driving and pay excess miles charges if Lucid is firm on the buyout price?
My alternate is driving a regular SUV if not the ev.

I have tinted my windows and have upgraded to CCCv2 as well.

‘97 Ford Explorer 5.0 AWD.

Tbf I did decent 900ft and this was pure highway driving. Was trying to see if 91 gas made a difference in fuel consumption compared to 85.

Toyota Hybrid Owners. How do you accelerate for the best MPG?

I’ve heard some people say to stay in the upper ECO zone, while others say it’s more efficient to briefly accelerate into the POWER zone and get up to speed quicker. I use eco zone and try to never touch power .
My instant MPG drops to around 8-15 mpg during acceleration, so it feels like it’s hurting my overall fuel economy and takes forever to get up to speed .
What are you all doing to get the best MPG? Upper ECO, POWER, or something else?

26 Camry hybrid and I have Scanguage as well .

Shifting to neutral at lights

In my head it makes sense to save fuel by shifting to neutral at stoplights when using an automatic transmission because the engine is under load trying to creep forwards, is this a valid technique?

I’m trying urban delivery hypermiling and stop and go makes it hard to improve

Is duct tape good enough for a chevy Volt?

Hi!

Wondering if it’s okay to instead of get a hub cab cover for wheels to just tape up the gaps and have essentially the whole rim area from edge to edge covered in duct tape?

I have metal rims on 17 chevy volt btw

Also planning on taping up gaps for at 2k mile roadtrip.

i’ll be changing oil and adding fluids right before too!

Will this still improve efficiency?

Improving mileage on my 2008 Prius

So I purchased a 2008 model Prius that had been sitting, one owner, but it sat for a little while after he passed. I’ve been cleaning it up, put wheel bearings on it, changed a capacitor, gave it a tuneup, and still kind of working out some of the bugs, but I kind of expected the fuel economy to be a little bit better. It’s running on the original battery, which was tested to be at a little above 80% of the original capacity but otherwise considered to be functional. I’m already used to driving a hybrid, my daily driver is a CRV hybrid, but honestly, this thing only gets marginally better gas mileage than that at 42.6mpg. Is there something I should be doing, or is it possible that my ancient battery or old engine are just not ever going to be as efficient as they were?

Does adding a kammback to a boxy car actually help?

So I have an '05 xB. Its a box on wheels. This weekend im making a front air dam and side skirts as well and a rear belly pan to help with air getting caught behind the rear bumper. Once I figure out how to mount them I have flat wheel covers, and once my temp gage shows up I will begin slowly blocking off the front grille. I may also raise the cowl side of the hood to allow more heat to escape while block off more, but ill try thay after I get the temp gage

A friend mentioned making a kammback. Im not opposed, but not sure if it would improve it enough to have a goofy structure on the back of the car.

Seat Mii 19’ - record

26.11 km/l and the car still said it had 30 km in the estimated range left, so technically almost 27 km/l were a possibility.

The gastank was filled up to 35 liters - The last 2 is by pouring slowly into the funnel.

Does anyone get bored after they’ve already achieved 90-95% of their car’s max potential mpg?

Have you experienced the same thing?

it’s gotten boring, boring In the sense I can’t make any further progress because my approach is already so optimized (I’m getting 36 mpg and/or 6.4l/100km city)

I’ve been Hypermiling for a while and I already consume 30-35% less fuel than my peers

I don’t know, maybe I should start doing aero mods to make things interesting again

I want to hypermile a gas guzzler and see how well I do

Have you ever wanted to do the same?

I feel it would be interesting to take an 8.1L V8 suburban 2500 from the 2000s and try and hypermile it, I could probably get a very impressive 16 mpg out of it

Questions about physical modifications.

Hey im interested in buying a 99' Lexus RX300 that I will only ride on the highway and i'm wondering what can be done to improve the fuel economy. I have seen dinner plates on wheels and rear wheel covers and diffusers but by how much do these modifications improve fuel efficiency and how can one make (or buy) them? Thanks

Help me hypermile a 1998 2500HD Chevy pickup

Hello hypermilers! I am going to be attending trade school later this year, I will be going to a college in another city, about 100km away. After doing some quick math I've decided that driving is the cheapest option, even in my old pickup. I won't buy another vehicle, because after buying the car, putting winter tires on it, and making reliable enough to trust to drive 200 km everyday for three months, I'd spend more than it would be worth. So I'm driving my old pick-up. Now, I will be spending roughly $4000 on gas, so I'm hoping to increase my fuel economy. I will be employing driving techniques of course, but I'm wondering if any aero mods would be worth it. I was thinking about installing a tonneau cover, some side skirts over the rear wheels, an underbelly, and damming the front grill. I was wondering if any of you have done these mods, and how they affect fuel economy. I know it won't be much, but my truck gets 23L/100km on average, and every bit of improvment will help. Please give your opinion:)

What would a city comprised solely of hypermilers look like?

Tell me what you think it’d look like

Gas stations would go bankrupt in our city

The mayor would hypermile to conferences/the legislature
