Plus FYS and an intro philosophy course...
Highkey want to take a full semester to get to the fun chem, neuro, and data sciencey classes.
I don't want to tank my GPA for PhD admissions butttt I already took a decent amount of chem and math so I'm not going in blind.

ADVICE ON FRESHMAN SCHEDULE

Hello! I am an incoming BME freshmen, looking to be on the pre-med path. I am coming in with maximum credits for Calculus, Chemistry, and AP Physics C: Mech (waiting on e&m score), and I am waiting on AP Stat score. I would really appreciate any recommended changes to my schedule, any recs on profs, or any classes that I should take. Thank you so much!

ACERS vs. OChem

Assuming I get a 5 on my AP Chem exam (meaning i would earn credit for both Chem 1 and 2), should I go straight into Ochem, or take ACERS to review? The chem placement exam recommended I start at chem 1 which surprised me immensely considering i took 4 chem classes in high school - including introductory organic chemistry. I also am wanting to take a lab because I am interested in being involved in research as soon as possible, but have no lab/research experience. O chem does not have a lab, whereas ACERS does. Anyone have any insights on the best place to start? I am also planning to do Calc 2, reintro to writing, and python in the fall.

JHU Dorm + Food Tips

I’m an incoming freshmen this fall.

Any tips for what TO bring and what to LEAVE at home?

Things that students oftentimes forget bringing and regret i.

And also if there are any affordable grocery stores nearby (I’m hoping to eat healthier, as of rn I shop at Walmart or Aldi).

Thanks!

Roller skating spaces?

Are there any places around campus that I could go to roller skate? I would love rink recommendations but even just a reasonably sized flat space would be appreciated.

Freshman Year Schedule Advice (HELP)

Hello, I'm an incoming freshman who has a variety of interests (international studies, physics, neuroscience, chemistry), a desire to learn how to code, and is thinking of doing pre-med. I'm struggling to find a focus (as seen in the courses listed above WAY over the 17 credits max), and would appreciate any advice on how to narrow down my options. Any and all thoughts/comments are welcome. Comments on what classes aren't manageable together (ie taken in the same semester) are also greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Notes: I'm aware I don't have a FYS yet, that will be included once I narrow down these courses. I'm aware I have two languages here, I'm still deciding between continuing French and Chinese.

freshman bme schedule + advice

How does this schedule look? Any advice is appreciated!

Also, any recommendations on regular physics with Sushkov or active learning with Swartz or Drichko?

I am coming in with Calc 3 and AP Chem credit, planning to possibly do the combined BS/MSE degree or minor in something (not sure what). Is the 10 min gap on Friday doable? Thanks in advance!

freshman yr schedule advice (mol bio + public health + premed)

any advice, thoughts, comments, etc on my tentatively planned schedule would be greatly appreciated! is this a manageable schedule, any classes that would be very difficult, etc.

I tried to get bio requirements in this as well; i got a 5 on ap bio and will be skipping gen bio, but the other requirements such as genetics and biochemistry are for rising sophomores or older (according to sis), am i able to bypass this requirement?

would it be better to take stats for life sciences in the fall (got a 5 on ap calc bc and took multivar), but i would need to cut down on one of 4 credit classes in order to stay within the 17 credit limit.

any tips for strategically setting up my schedule for the fall or even spring semester to accommodate for both major required classes?

CNA/EMT Opportunities

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone took any EMT or CNA classes and what specific programs they did. If you did take the class, where did you get hired as an EMT or CNA? Thank you!

advice on my freshman schedule!! (premed, neuro)

hii this is the schedule i've created for my freshman fall! i appreciate any and all advice!!! rn I am at 15 credits...is 3 classes back to back insane? i lowk eat lunch late so i thought itd be nice...

i am most confused about whether to take ACER or Orgo...I took honors chem sophomore year and then ap chem junior year and got a 5, but its been a hot minute. I hear that everyone who takes ACER wishes they took orgo, but that just feels like a LOT. also i heard med schools make you take more advanced chem courses if you skip gen chem entirely...

i just feel like theres not that many classes lol. maybe thats just how college is but i feel like i should be doing more? I wanna try for HERO (prior EMT cert) and really get involved on campus my first semester so I know i need time for that, but im just unsure about how much rigor is too much. To Orgo, or not to Orgo? that is the question...

For KSAS Students in Wind Ensemble or Hopkins Symphony Orchestra

Hi guys, I'm an incoming KSAS student and was wondering about the audition process for Hopkins Symphony Orchestra. Is it really as hard as they make it seem on the website?

For context, I'm self taught flute but I think I'm pretty good (ive been in band for 4 years and my primary is trumpet that im good at, i js dont enjoy it anymore)

Also whats the difference between the wind ensemble and the Hopkins Symphony Orchestra?

TY!!!

New apartment complex near Homewood

Hey everyone! I’m joining the JHU Krieger School of Arts and Science this August as a Visiting researcher. I am new to Baltimore.

Mostly looking for a studio or 1bedroom. My budget is mostly $1000-1200 range.

I’d prefer Charles Village or Guilford area, want to be close to Homewood campus. Ideally, I want a decent semi-furnished apartment, like including dishwasher, or in-unit Washer dryer, but I can adjust.

Seems like lot of popular apartment complex has either roaches/mices, or water problem, including Carlyle and Marylander. I <really> want something pest-free and safe neighbourhood. I’m now mostly looking at now Woodcliffe Manor, Ambassador, Jefferson house, Woodrow on 30th. Any new complex or renovated one?

Any idea if these are good? If anyone has any experience or any recommendation, I would appreciate it.

academic integrity settlement

i was caught for a breach of academic integrity on an assignment, and the professor gave me the option to settle with them. I agreed to settle, and the only penalty the professor gave me was a 0 on the assignment as well as having to do an academic integrity workshop. they said that the case would remain internally in the record of the office of student conduct (which i assumed was in case i have future infractions). for anyone else that has had this happen, do grad schools and medical schools ever ask for access to this record? or do i have to denote this infraction on applications? thanks

jhu is my dream school

hi guys!

im a rising sophomore in highschool and like the tittle, john hopkins university is one of my dream school. (+brown) but i want to know how i can improve in order to get in.

(note: this isn’t a pity post please be brutal and don’t feel bad for me)

i’m a blank peice of paper. for example, im really lazy and i dont have any awards or recognitions or connections. (yes i know im cooked)

my school doesn’t offer any aps, and it’s all connections. im kind of an outcast at school and i skip my lunch to study, yet my sat score is laughable (around 1120) and i only have a 3.7. sadly, i can only leave my school after sophomore year (IF my ISEE is good enough— i got all 5’s last time)

im so worried and i really want to get into a good college. everyone in my school knows kind of laughs at me when i tell them i want to go to john hopkins due to my grades.

could you guys please tell me yalls extracurriculars and awards? and advice on how to change?

i really want to major in psychology/or neuroscience and do pre-med.
