Fireworks were no problem!

I'm happy to report that Thor was a champ during the fireworks last night. All his "fireworks training" paid off. We have two large displays near our house and he wasn't phased. ❤️

Chickens?

I've always liked these dogs but we have chickens in our backyard free range. Will they get along or is the prey drive too strong in these breeds.?

I feel guilty

I’m going to visit my family. I have two babies.. one takes medication and the other doesn't and an Akita mix. Whenever we travel we leave them at the vet, but someone who used to work at the boarding facility told me they treated the dogs really badly. As it turns out, a woman who lives next door offered to look after them for me. I’m on my own right now because my husband is deployed, and so is hers. She said she’d stay at my house to watch them.. she has two dogs of her own, and when I visited her place, they looked healthy and happy, with toys all over the house. The thing is, I’m taking the one that needs medication with me, but I can't take his brother because I’m traveling alone and the airport I’m flying out of is small they told me there's a limit of one dog per passenger. I can't even sleep (I know it sounds ridiculous..but they’re my babies and I’d do anything for them).. I bought indoor cameras so I could check on them all the time, but he suffers from anxiety and is extremely attached to me .. I just don't know what to do! Plus, the woman looking after him seems like a good person, buuuut I don't even trust my own husband when he has to watch them... How do I trust her? How do I leave him behind? How do I calm down? How do I prevent him from getting stressed? He’s incredibly anxious and has pancreatitis, so I’m terrified of a flare up. Any recommendations?

Urine sample

My 18 years old Min Pin’s blood work has elevated kidney levels. The vet wants me to collect a urine sample and bring it in to confirm whether it is chronic or not. My dog is a female that pees about an inch from the ground. I have no idea how I am supposed to do this and really didn’t get any good ideas from the vet. Any suggestions?

New to the group

Hi. I'm new to the group. My husband and I adopted Thor 7 months ago. He's now 3 years old. He's my 2nd Min Pin and he's made loosing my 17 year old much easier. He's come a LONG way with training. Thor is a great traveler and loves to go anywhere we go. Looking forward to see what everyone posts here.

How to make my minpin less agressive?

I have a 6-year-old Miniature Pinscher who is pretty aggressive. She seems to prefer being left alone most of the time. Occasionally, she'll come over and lie on my lap, but after I've been petting her for a while, she'll suddenly growl and bite me. She'll also bite me or other family members if we try to pet her when she's by herself. No one can even get close to her while she's eating; otherwise, she'll attack and bite.

Two years ago, my family got a Shih Tzu, and things got worse. My Shih Tzu is very playful and is always trying to interact with my Miniature Pinscher, which often leads to fights. My Miniature Pinscher was raised with my cat, who has since passed away. My cat was very calm, so I think my Shih Tzu's much higher energy level is not what she is used to

Unfortunately, I didn't know anything about dog training when I got her, so I probably made a lot of mistakes. Is there anything I can do now to improve the situation?

My 2-year-old dog died after vet gave pre-anesthesia despite saying gas only

I lost my dog shes a mini pin and just 2 years old. The vet told me the procedure would use gas anesthesia only. I even have a receipt stating that. But during the actual procedure, they injected her with a pre-anesthetic drug first. She didn’t survive.

It’s been 3 months, and I still can’t accept it. I feel so much loss, regret, pain, and I miss her every day.

The vet only told me afterward that “she didn’t make it because there’s no screening for anesthesia allergy, maybe it’s in her genes.” They even asked if she had siblings so I could warn them. That explanation doesn’t ease the pain, and I feel misled because I wasn’t told about the injection beforehand.

My question is: does it really make sense that she died because of the pre-anesthesia drug? Or was this negligence?

She had a blood parasite and was scheduled for surgery to treat pyometra. I feel misled because I wasn’t told about the injection beforehand. If I had known, I would have asked more questions or reconsidered.
