Outlet covers

So, there’s no exterior cover on the mystery machine’s outlet… port(?)… so I’m looking at replacing it and I see some like this (which is what I’ll be getting unless y’all teach me better) but I saw some that are square and have locks.
What is the point of a lock? Do people plug you in while you’re away? I figured y’all would have some insight here.
Thank you!

Electric help for noob

Hello, I have a jayco pop up that I've had for about a year but I'm still kind of unsure about the electric side of things. We have mostly just used nonelectric sites. However, a few weekends ago we stayed at an electric site and whenever we plugged our camper in, it flipped the post breaker. Our pop up is 30 amp and we were hoping to use our ceiling A/C. We ended up using a converter cord and that allowed the camper lights to work but we didn't think it was okay to run the A/C from that so we didn't. Now that it's getting hotter, I'd really like to figure this out so any help is appreciated, thank you!

Roof replacement

Need to replace my roof. Previous owners installed too large an A/C and now it leaks. Any advice? Should I have a local dealer/shop do it? What can I expect in cost. I’m pretty decent with home repair and such but seems like a big project.

Bed comforters

Hi everyone! I’m a new pop up owner and I was wondering if anyone’s tried the brand beddys? I have a friend who uses that in their toy hauler but I haven’t seen it for a pop up. Do you take off the bedding when you take it down or do you leave it on? Also is the bed sizes pretty standard or has anyone found it to be shorter/ longer?

Got a good deal, I think I see why

Upon arrival at home, I opened the door to find this. Looks like the wall is broken? I love the camper and am willing to put in some work, or to pay some in else to do so… what might this cost at an RV repair shop? I’d open it to get better pics but it’s raining.

Just did some roof patcher

Did a temporary fix on the pop-up this week. The roof had a ton of spider cracks in the ABS and a bunch of old patches, but luckily the plywood underneath wasn’t damaged, just a little wet. Dried everything out, patched the cracks, and sealed the roof with Flex Seal. It should hopefully buy me another season or two. Still finishing up some spots and the seal.

Next up is the canvas. The walls are actually in pretty good shape with no rips or tears. One thing I noticed though on the Westlake, where the lift poles are, there’s an aluminum cover on the inside of the roof that the canvas Velcros to. On the sides of that cover there are small gaps. Not sure if it’s a factory flaw or just how these campers age.

For the people familiar with these pop-ups, is this the kind of thing everyone just lives with, or should I be chasing perfection and trying to seal every little gap?

There has to be a better way

Every time I set up shop, the top of the door frustrates the hell out of me. The trailer is leveled perfectly, yet I still have to slide the roof back (away from the door) to make room for the top of it to fit under the black plastic knobs. These two little plastic pieces are holding the weight of the roof (laterally) and I don't like it - they will loosen over time because I'm sure the screws are tiny and the holes are probably getting stripped.

Is there a better, stronger way to lock in the door at the top? Alternatively, can anyone provide insight as to why the roof is slid towards the door side in the first place? Having the roof perfectly in place would help fix this too I suppose (until some wind comes by and puts stress on those plastic knobs).

I'm thinking of something like a metal plate that would mount onto the same 4 screws holding the current metal piece (for holding the door up when the trailer is closed) that runs left/right covering an inch of the top of the door. Even a hinged piece that flops down with a barrel bolt or something. I just want strength and reliability (is that too much to ask for a popup trailer?).

How to calculate actual towing capacity?

I'm reading up on whether a 2026 Toyota Rav4 Plugin Hybrid can tow my 2019 Flagstaff 176MAC popup camper. It's a very small camper (8' box), only about 1600 lbs dry weight, and I hear about lots of people towing them with small cars. But I'm having trouble making the math work.

As I understand it, towing capacity is the car's GCVW, minus it's curb weight, minus passengers and payload weight. The 2026 Rav4 has a GCVW of 5530, and a curb weight of 4500. This seems to indicate that it can only tow around 1,000 lbs even with no passengers/payload in the car - assuming three passengers and some luggage that would be down to around 500 lbs total towing capacity. But Toyota claims a towing capacity of 3500 lbs, which seems impossible given the GCVW and curb weight and even if you disregard the passengers and payload.

What am I overlooking or doing wrong here? Based on those numbers, the Toyota really can't tow anything, since you're gonna be hard pressed to find anything you can tow under 500 lbs.

Palomino Yearling 4100

Deer camp 2026 is going to be awesome. Give me some tips and tricks to keep this warm in the winter through night. Gekko covers worth it? Anyone use a diesel heater? Will a space heater keep us comfortable? Assuming nights will hit 30’s.

Upgrades: new tires, new battery, new floors, new drawer hardware, new backsplash (in progress), new water pump.

What Did I Get Myself Into? (Roof Problems)

Bought a 1997 Palomino Yearling RL for $1,000 - canvas is in good shape (a few holes already patched them with some discoloration that is going away with elbow grease). Previous seller put in a new lift system in the last few years. Some of the seating OSB had evidence of mold, so I’m replacing those and was in the middle of reframing the galley kitchen yesterday when it started to rain. Cool cool. No biggie - or so I thought. Today, I’m finding some things and could use some experienced eyes.

Here's what I've got:

  1. Right above the Queen bed (on the side with the hitch) there is some wood where the canvas rail is screwed to - it’s completely soaked and crumbling. The back bed has evidence of past water damage, but is dry. The neighboring wood along the length of the camper is also dry.

  2. The canvas in the same area has no sealant — the canvas appears to just be folded over the edge with nothing sealing that junction. (Is that normal??)

  3. The aluminum outer skin appears solid with no cracks, gaps, or missing sealant visible from outside — it just looks old.

The board immediately adjacent to the worst damage is completely dry, so the damage does appear localized to that front board.

What are we looking at here? Do I need to pull off the whole roof? How much does a roof rebuild/patch cost in material? I can bring the audacity and the ‘can teach myself anything’ gumption, but I don’t know what I just uncovered 🙈

My 93 Coleman fleetwood Arcadia (work in progress)

Hello everybody, I received this Coleman as a gift. It has a solid frame and the floor was replaced but the roof was in terrible shape, the awning ripped the roof and allowed water to enter. So the mission was simple remove and repair.

The previous own ripped out all the electrical out so I replaced the 12volt system for now. 2 group 24 AGM’s wired to a fuse block with a master shut off and 40amp breaker and all new fresh grounds.

I added 2 chargers on each side of the camper along with 2 new ceiling lights.

Built some bench’s one has a flip down lid both serve as storage, still need to finish them with trim work and cushions.

Also replaced all the exterior lighting

Still need to come up with a solution for the ceiling. Was thinking of a ceiling tile style solution or something similar.

Anyway been waiting to share my experiences so far. we are preparing to take it out in 2 weeks for its first overnight !

Janky Split Door Fix

u/Spicy-Mustard-13

This is the best I can do for now. I did accidentally get a photo of one of the window sash locks on the top (I was texting my wife a photo of the hanging storage thingy).

You can also imagine where the corresponding snaps would go on the bottom of the upper door frame to keep it from sliding around against the box.

It’s super stable and the door sections stay aligned perfectly. It closes smooth every time. Damn I’m good.

I will still take better pictures this weekend.

Can’t get the 12v power to work.

Says I should be able to run my furnace fan and lights off the battery on my camper. 2007 206ST Flagstaff. Could it be because I have a power winch so it’s only wired up for that?
Anyway to wire up the furnace fan and stuff to a deep cycle battery? Don’t really wanna spend what those power stations cost 😆

I have the switch on that’s behind the refrigerator. Anything other than that? The manual doesn’t really tell me much.

Refrigerator vent cover covers

Hello fellow campers!
I’ve decided to take out our dometic three-way refrigerator because we never use it and could use the additional space for our electric cooler. I’ll be capping off the gas line, but I’m looking for suggestions on how to seal off the old refrigerator vent. It would be nice to keep using the panels as it would give me external access to that cubby area, but I don’t want bugs coming in or AC/Heat going out. Have any of you done this before? What was your solution?

Does this look like mold/mildew from old moisture intrusion in 1996 Hallmark pop-up truck camper?

I recently bought a 1996 Hallmark pop-up truck camper for about $4k and I’m trying to assess the condition realistically before I start tearing into things unnecessarily.
The camper has a fiberglass roof and overall actually seems structurally decent:
roof line is still straight
lift system works
interior wood looks surprisingly solid
canvas is intact with no major tears
However, there are some corners of the soft wall/canvas that have dark spotting/staining and evidence of past moisture intrusion. The roof seams/corners definitely need resealing and there are signs that water has gotten in at some point in the past.
I’m trying to determine:
does this mostly look like surface mildew/mold staining on the vinyl/canvas?
or does this look more concerning/active?
what would you recommend for cleaning/treatment?
any Hallmark-specific advice?
How hard is it to replace the canvas? Looks challenging.
So far I’m planning to:
reseal roof seams/corners
dry everything thoroughly
clean canvas gently with mild cleaner/vinegar
monitor for active leaks during rain
I’d appreciate honest opinions from people experienced with older pop-up truck campers.

Need some advice!!

I have a 1986 popup camper and I opened it up to let it air out before I take it on a weekend trip this coming weekend. I haven’t even used it yet, and when I bought it there was no problem closing it. Now there’s a Problem…one of the corners is not lowering and after crawling inside I think I found the issue (photos attached) I have no idea what to do but I think the spring is bent at almost a 90° angle and when lowering the other 3 corners go down. I tried leveraging it with a screwdriver but it still wouldn’t move after the first 2 inches or so. I’m out of my element here and have no idea what I’m doing and don’t want to damage anything further. Is this repairable or am I SOL?

Beeping from converter?

Hey everyone,

I have 04’ Palomino Y-4102 and when I plug the power in, all my 120 V outlets work as well as the lights. But within a few seconds, the converter fan starts turning, and then it stops and it starts beeping. The previous owner cut the propane detector out and there is no battery attached. I do get 13 Volts DC coming out of the converter so I don’t think it’s failing.

Do you think either of those could be the issue?

First trip in new pop-up

Took the new camper out for the first time, for a couple of nights. Second pop-up for me (third if you count the one I grew up with in the ‘70s and ‘80s), but first one for my wife.
