How Do YOU Balance Passion and Business as a Producer?

As a producer (who monetizes their work), how do you balance creativity versus doing what sales? I've been struggling on whether I should keep producing as a side hobby or try switching my production to fit the market demand. I'm interested in hearing your perspectives and experiences and hopefully I can learn a few things. Thank You!

Deep Melancholic Hardware Techno Jam 🛰️🔭

Found a new camera angle that lets you guys see the rack better! It’s a little more compress now how things are routed but basically as of now all my drum compression plus a bass line comes from hardware. The daw is mostly for fx and some eq.

Really love the fat chords coming out of the Microwave Xt in this track. Super emotional vibes. Super fat rhythm and bass coming out of the virus for a dope climax.

Starting to get my tracks louder in a clean way too. This one is clocking in around -5db integrated. Lmk what you think of this track! Recorded a couple days ago. Getting close to finishing this ep I’ve been working on. If you wanna check out the full track I’ll leave a youtube link in the comments. Thanks for listening.

Hi, I would like some feedback on my mixing.

I started recording and mixing songs about a year and a half ago. No singer yet, but all instruments are real perfomances except for the drums which are midis I wrote.

I think my mix are getting there, but there is still room for improvement and I’m not sure where to get it.

That’s why I try here.

Have a good listen!

Also that’s a pic of Guinness, my cat.

Finishing tracks

I’m in the classic boat of being someone who sits on a mountain of unfinished tracks, tweaking into oblivion. I see a lot of conversation around the benefit of just releasing stuff, even if it’s not perfect, but I’m struggling to figure out how this should actually happen.

At what point do you consider a track “good enough”? It feels wrong to me to put out something that’s only 80% finished, but it sounds like that’s what a lot of people are doing. Do you have any specific things you’re looking for to consider a track finished enough?

How do you set your mixes up for being balanced?

I can mix the elements relative to each other pretty well but I always struggle with the overall balance of every element so that it sounds like the industry standard. I can tweak the hell of a project using reference tracks towards the end of the process but this is time consuming and can be difficult.

How do I start so that I have the best chance of achieving that industry standard mix straight off the bat? Any tips?

Hi

For all the sharing I did of my art. All the views that it's got and zero replies or reactions, I would like to say that I don't expect anything less from the Reddit community because I've never met anybody I thought was cool on here or did anything unique. I never liked this app and I've never liked any of you. goodbye

My first mixtape

Bonjour à tous.

Je poste ceci pour partager mon premier projet musical, « After Life... ».

Mixing and Mastering with LUFS, what does it mean and is it relevant?

Ive heard in multiple conversations and posts about how spotify drops songs to -14 LUFS and apple music drops them to -16 LUFS etc, but I also read how different genres tend to sit around different LUFS, e.g, hiphop/rap sits around -10 to -8, and dubstep sits around -6 to -3 etc. and not to worry trying to mix or master your songs to -14. Whats the real general outlook on this?

Another things I read about mixing in your vocals to a song, that if when the vocals cut in on the loudest part of the track that if the short term lufs jump up like 3 lufs that the vocals sit too loud. What are your guys' processes for doing the vocals and mastering relevant to LUFS?
