How do you set your mixes up for being balanced?

I can mix the elements relative to each other pretty well but I always struggle with the overall balance of every element so that it sounds like the industry standard. I can tweak the hell of a project using reference tracks towards the end of the process but this is time consuming and can be difficult.

How do I start so that I have the best chance of achieving that industry standard mix straight off the bat? Any tips?

Does anyone know about this homeless man?

There’s a homeless man who many of you might have noticed. He sits on the strand in the same place most days, often cross legged or sunbathing. He rarely notes passers by, mostly staring out at the sea when not eating or sleeping. He’s older, maybe 60 or 70, and his most defining feature is his incredibly thick dreads amongst messy white hair. I’ve never seen him begging or asking for money in any way. This might be my warped interpretation but he always looks incredibly peaceful and content.

Does anyone know this man’s story or anything about him at all? Every time i see him, he plays on my mind for hours afterwards. I’d be extremely interested to find out more about him.

Help identifying sound - Water Rail specialists?

I heard a low, loud croaking sound briefly come from a bush near me. I’m an ecologist and I’ve never heard anything like this before. It was one note, raspy, falling slowly in pitch and lasted a few seconds. It was similar to amphibians I’ve heard in other countries. However it didn’t match any amphibian calls in the area of south wales (i think). It could have been a mammal but there wasn’t much movement or rustling in the foliage at all, more like a bird or a reptile moving slowly or carefully. I was near buildings but no visible drainage or electrical systems…I’m sure the sound was organic.

I was by a quiet section of river near the coast. It’s relatively rural but close to urban areas. I know the area is quite diverse even though it’s a bit of a dump. I’ve seen kingfishers, flycatchers, and birds of prey there. Lots of fish in the water and thick foliage held up by huge bramble bushes. The other side of the river is quiet deciduous woodland.

As you can tell, I really really want to know what this sound was because I got absolutely no clue! I asked all of this to gpt and water rail was its most likely answer. Do water rails make any other vocalisations outside of their usual high pitched call?

Any experts want to weigh in??🙏

Time moves so fast without weed

I’m just journaling here rn because it helps me organise my thoughts. After quitting for a month, i think I’ve discovered a big reason as to why i use weed regularly and why it’s so hard to stop.

Since breaking, Ive found that the days absolutely fly by! A week sober feels like a few days when I am consistently stoned. I am a rather introspective and existential person, as I’m sure most smokers are, which means that I’m hyper aware of the finite amount of time we have on this planet. I think part of the reason I smoke is to experience that time as longer than it really is, because weed slows down the perception of time.
I’m so aware that this world will likely become a worse place over the next few decades and I feel as if I’m living in decadence on borrowed time. I think that my subconscious wants to lengthen this out as much as possible before things go downhill.

Currently, I’m mourning the loss of the perception of having more time, but I’m trying to remember that the minutes do tick by at the same rate, even if I feel like that’s not the case. I suppose that I’m using my “decreased time” more effectively as well, due to having more cognitive, physical and social energy. Also, I might be increasing time by prolonging my health by not smoking.

I hope some people can relate to this. It might be useful to a few.

I have dozens and dozens of WIPs and ideas - anyone want to collab?

LETS COLLAB! I’m a hobbyist producer with about a decade of casual experience behind me. That being said, I have two alias’s, one of which has over 1.2 million streams across releases and platforms. At the moment, I tend to focus on my newer alias in order to grow it.

I have at least 50 WIPs and ideas focused around the old alias that I will likely never have time to complete. Don’t get me wrong, I often release tunes, but I only release about 2 in 10 ideas and I’m writing my thesis at the moment! So little time!!

However, I’d really like to find producers to take my ideas and do whatever they want with them…whether that’s for their personal inspiration and music development, a proper collaboration or just for plain fun. I love collabing and I really enjoy the unique sound that comes from two producers working together! I also like learning how others go about the process.

DM ME IF INTERESTED! I have posted a few examples of ideas here but Reddit won’t let me post a long or multiple videos. I can give you a better selection in messages. Ideally, I’m looking for adept to experienced producers but I’m open to anyone! All I ask is that you’re keen and creative.

If the collabs work, I’ll be very happy to release as many as possible and help give any of you some exposure. Always happy to give and take advice as well.

Let me know dnb family!❤️

[KCD2] Zoologist here - the devs have really thought this game through.

Just thought I’d share how impressed I am with this amazing game. When walking through the forest, I noticed the ambient chirping from birds. Now, often I notice this in games and it removes realism for me because I can identify birdsong that’s from a completely different region or habitat.

This game got it right!! Birdsong, containing multiple species, not only matches the region perfectly, but the habitat and time of year too. Volume and density of the song against other ambiance is absolutely perfect as well. It shows how much thought has gone into the tiny details of this game…I really appreciate it!
