Timer/Scale Integration into Drip Tray on R58 V2 (2017)

After 2 prior prototypes I think I’ve just about nailed it. Think anyone would buy it? Do the other rocket models have similarly sized drip trays?

Design notes for the Nerds:

3D printed with Petg-gf upside down on engineering plate with PLA as support (Bambu H2D). Had to rotate the timer CCW 90 deg and offset it right to get the readout visible with Le Creuset mugs. Timer height was an issue too, had to protrude beyond the height of the drip tray. Decided to create a lip and make contact on the top side of the drip tray rather than the inside to have a flush interface between the top of the grate and timer. Dead center has drop to ensure cup only contacts timer/scale (not drip tray as well). Also found that the inside drip tray/grate interface was not flat and caused teeter totter, top was relatively flat, guess it’s a function of how they weld the corners and constrain it. E61 downspout drains into a height adjustable catch/spout that goes into the drip tray to not spatter everywhere and onto the timer. Spout top is open on the back side to permit sliding the tray in and out without adjustment. Timer cavity is enclosed so that if the drip tray water level gets too high it will over flow before ruining the timer. Double edged sword in that the timer cavity won’t drain and possibly will not indicate water inside until too late (may be worth putting a float style indicator in a sort of cavity sump). Symmetrical finger holes for easy removal.

Rate my coffee setup and show me yours! ☕

Hey everyone!
Feel free to rate my current coffee setup. I’m using a Rocket Giotto Evo R with a Eureka Mignon Specialità and I’m really happy with the setup so far.
I’d also love to see some pictures of your coffee setups! I’m looking for a bit of inspiration because I feel like my coffee corner looks pretty boring at the moment. I’d love to add some decorative touches and give it more of a wow factor.
So show me what you’ve got and feel free to share any ideas! ☕

Rocket Cellini Delta Unit/Low Steam Pressure

Hey y’all, I have this older Rocket Cellini that I bought used years ago. It’s a fantastic machine and has served me well but recently I realized that I don’t really know what this little Delta PID unit does in the bottom right of the picture. If I set the SV number higher,my group head temperature raises to above 205 to 210° and my steam pressure increases on the left side. Does anybody have experience with setting these properly or is there another adjustment I’m missing on the actual machine to increase the steam pressure but keep the group head at a specific set value. I know this is a single boiler machine so the two are connected but wondering if this unit can be used to dial in the machine a bit more. Is there an OPV that needs to be adjusted or something else I’m missing?

Rocket appartamento gauge condensation

Hi.

I've been using a rocket appartamento for the past almost four years and it's been great. Recently, I noticed that there is a little bit of condensation inside the gauge. Gauge is still working fine, but I assume it should better be fixed.

Any advice on how to best troubleshoot?

Thank you.

R58 over pressure

Rocket R58 boiler pressure issue after accidentally shorting the thermostat
I’ve recently been servicing my Rocket R58 and ran into a bit of a problem.
While the machine was turned on, I accidentally touched the thermostat with a set of pliers, and it made a very loud pop. I soon found out that the thermostat had burned out, so I ordered a replacement and installed it.
After replacing it, I noticed that the machine seems to heat up a little faster than before.
However, I’m now having an issue with the boiler pressure. The pressure goes well beyond 1.5 bar. I checked both relays and they seem to be working properly. The LED indicators are also behaving normally and aren’t staying on continuously, so it doesn’t seem like the relay is permanently stuck on.
The strange part is that when the machine heats up to around 2 bar, I get a sudden gush of steam. I assume this is coming from the pressure relief/safety valve.
I’m not quite sure what’s going on here.
Could the thermostat replacement be related to this? Or is there something else in the pressure control system that I should be checking?
Any advice from anyone familiar with the R58 would be greatly appreciated!

Obvious solution for Tall cups

As a youngsters, I worked as a bartender,.among other things.

So this should have come to me sooner..

While thinking and looking for solutions to the Too-Tall cup issue, it occurred to me that the drip tray could be flipped over to eek out a few CMs of room under the portafilter.

Doh!

Not going to get up at the crack of...

...anymore to turn on the Mozzafiatta. Got a couple of cheap Ghome timers and put one to use with our Rocket.

Now, it is warmed up and ready to go.

Used to be "The waiting is the hardest part."

Pressure Problem

Hello everyone,
since today, I’ve been having a problem with my Rocket Appartamento espresso machine.
Normally, when I switch the machine on, the pressure gauge rises into the green area. However, today the pressure doesn’t build up at all.
Could the water supply be the reason? I’ve had the machine for more than three years and have always used regular tap water. I know that using untreated tap water can cause serious limescale buildup and potentially damage the machine, so I’m wondering if this could finally be the problem.
Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what could be causing this?
Thank you in advance for your help!

R58 V2 Maintenance + IMS Single Basket?

I’ve had my Rocket R58 V2 since 2020. Zero issues or repairs and still extremely happy with it.

I regularly backflush, replace the group gasket yearly/shower screen as needed, and use Santevia filtered water with an Oscar pouch. Recently upgraded from a Faustino to a Eureka Mignon Libra.

At 6 years old, should I be considering any preventative servicing even though everything is working perfectly?

Also, I’m a traditional Italian single espresso guy: original Rocket 8 g basket, ~25 mL in 25–30 sec. Taste is great, but the puck rarely knocks out cleanly.

Is an IMS single basket actually worth the upgrade? If so, which one for the Rocket portafilter?

No Steam or hot water, but the brew group is pushing water. Mozzofeato

I am able to pull water thru the brew head but the steam pressure never gets to 1 and no water flows from the steam wand or the hot water valves.

I did notice that the steam wand knob started spinning at suns point — I usually open the steam valve fully open to steam milk and there is a definite stop, or there was. We tightened the knob and the fitting just behind the knob finger right, but I still hear a shhhh.

PID says heat is working properly..

I think there is a loose fitting some where.
Please offer tips on what to look for.

Rocket R58 V2 intermittently blocks brew flow and hits 10–12 bar — E61 troubleshooting

Hi everyone, I have an older Rocket R58 (I believe V2) that has developed an intermittent brew-flow problem.

When I lift the brew lever, sometimes the pump runs but almost no water comes from the group and the brew pressure immediately goes to 10–12 bar. Sometimes it takes 3–5 attempts before the water starts flowing normally. The issue can also occur with no portafilter installed.

So far I’ve:

  • Confirmed the hot-water outlet and steam work normally.
  • Removed and cleaned the shower screen, dispersion screw/plate and E61 mushroom.
  • Found a large amount of scale/corrosion inside the mushroom and E61 group.
  • Removed and cleaned the giclér/restrictor; the hole is visibly clear.
  • Cleaned the parts with descaler and Cafiza and flushed the machine thoroughly.
  • Lubricated the E61 lever/mechanism with food-safe silicone grease.

After cleaning, the machine initially worked perfectly for ~30 cycles. With a blind basket it now builds pressure smoothly, but the problem eventually returns. At the moment, even with a naked portafilter without a basket, the flow can become very weak and pressure rises to ~10 bar.

When switching the lever off, water does come out through the 3-way valve, although sometimes there isn’t the usual strong “psss” sound.

I’m starting to suspect a sticking solenoid/valve or another restriction somewhere in the brew circuit, possibly caused by loose scale, but I’d really appreciate input from someone familiar with the R58/E61 hydraulic circuit.

What would you check next? Is there a particular valve/restrictor/solenoid on the R58 V2 that is known to cause this behaviour?
