compilation of reccomended tables for a new cabinet

Last week I asked for recommendations for tables to initially download when I finish my new cabinet. I got a lot of input. I tallied everything up and am posting it here.

To be honest, I will probably try to add each of these tables to my cabinet right away! All of your input was really appreciated, just like all of the advice the community has given me over the past few months!

If there are others that are excellent "must-haves", sleepers, or obsure favorites, add em here.

Here's the list!

(Hmm..., I may have some typos.... Not sure if "Birth Shaker" is supposed to be Earth Shaker??? But I am definitely downloading Birth Shaker if I find it! (No multiball in that one.. just twins and triplettes), but I am not adding the spray bottle mechanical toy......

Best VR Tables with detailed 3d models?

Hi!
I just finished setting up vpx launcher for playing in VR.
A major thing that I noticed with VR in general, is that 2d games rely a lot in 2d textures with normal maps to make things look 3d while saving performance. But VR breaks this illusion making things look flat/weird. For things to look good in VR the models need to have actual geometry instead of relying on textures.
From the 20 tables I setup so far, the most impressive one in VR is Scared Stiff.
The models of the little creatures in the bumpers moving, the ribs, and so on make the table look almost real.
Any other tables with great 3d models?

ALP MICRO Bit the bullet at $299 -- coming soon

after extensive review here and on youtube, I determined that the only way to learn about visual pinball would be to take the plunge(r) ha!

I plan to add the Idaho plunger to have a proper-looking table, but at the price of $299, including shipping and no tax, I could not find an alternative to my Switch and vertical flip grip.

I found one used Micro on eBay for $250, with a. plunger, plus shipping and tax. I also considered the Cleveland Software OnePIN mini...which of course I would then need to figure out the display and CPU and operating environment.

I think the Micro will incentivize me to build a full size cabinet and go for high end electronics, or it will tamper my enthusiasm and save me a ton of money!

So my question for those who bought ALP Micro's, was it one and done, or did you go down the rabbit hole this hobby requires? thank you.

Topper animatronic pincab scared stiff

Salut.

21.5" Open-Frame Widescreen Touch Displays with Integrated Intel i7 PC & 16GB RAM (Perfect Mini-vPin Playfield Cores)

DESCRIPTION:

Looking to gauge interest on a batch of rugged, commercial-grade open-frame touch terminals uninstalled during a recent facility network upgrade.

We just booted one up, and it runs a fully unlocked American Megatrends BIOS (no supervisor passwords).

Specs:

- Screen: 21.5-inch diagonal 16:9 widescreen touch display (high-brightness outdoor panel, great for vertical mounting)

- Processor: Intel Core i7-6500U CPU

- Memory: 16GB RAM (16384 MB)

- Hardware Layout: Motherboard, active CPU cooling fan, and industrial switching power brick are all cleanly pre-mounted to a flat, internal metal backing panel chassis. Features top-facing USB/HDMI outputs and power switch.

Testing the waters to see what the vPin builder community would value these at as self-contained mini-playfield cores. . Let me know your thoughts or shoot a PM!

How to get pinball games to fullscreen

I have a Attack on Mars Arcade 1up cabinet that I'm converting over to use vpinball tables through Batocera. I'm using the Intecgaming Switch electronics for the conversion. How do I get the tables to fill the entire 24 inch screen? I have it set to the maximum resolution, and I've tried some of the lower ones, but they all come out miniaturized like the two in the pictures. I have a couple of tables, like 24, where the bottom of the table is off the bottom edge of the screen. What settings do I need to change to center and expand the tables?

Hybrid VPX, lightgun and arcade game.

Have made a couple of traditional arcade cabinets over the years, but always wanted both a vpin machine and lightgun shooter for which a traditional arcade cabinet wasn’t ideal. So made this with an articulated monitor. VPX via Batocera is great as the angle makes the ball travel plus the solenoid haptics feel authentic and upright for lightgun games is fantastic on the 42” monitor. Enjoy it so much got rid of my other cabinets….still need to finish a few things. But they can wait a bit longer 😀

Added DOF, nudge and an analog plunger to my build

So far into my build i have about $190 dollars into my mega budget build. I started at $80 then spent $106 on solenoids, controllers, mosfets, accelerometers, and stuff for an analog plunger.

I have to say adding those things really enhanced how the machine plays, sounds, and feels. It’s still not like playing a real machine, but having 45n solenoids really makes it feel like there is real force hitting the “ball”.

I’ve definitely learned a few things doing it on a budget and not buying some of the amazing prebuilt solutions out there. Tip 1: don’t bother with 5n solenoids for anything on a V-pin. They really don’t have enough kick. 20n would be the minimum I would go with.

Let me know if you y’all have any questions or if I should maybe do a tour/break down video of my costs and how I kept the price down.

A beautiful new TOTAN

The customer's choice of powder coating was perfect for this cabinet!! Great Job, Tyler!!!!! Pictures just can't capture how stunning this build is. This cabinet is headed down to Cleveland Software for a full builder's-kit installation tutorial, which our customer, Tyler, is filming with Phil and his team. Should be an awesome resource for anyone looking for a Cleveland Software Installation Tutorial. If you haven't recently checked out Cleveland Software's YouTube page, they have been releasing a bunch of cool info videos explaining each kit, how to hook them up, and what is included. Have a Great Day Vpinners!!!!

PinOne Mini Machine - Ideal most realistic settings request

Since many people use the PinOne Mini Machine controller with a PC running VPX 10.8, there should be an ideal setup for realistic nudging that is reproducible. I’ve been adjusting and adjusting and read a few suggested settings online but can’t get it right. Clarification: I am not talking about a cabinet with the Pin One Mini board. I am only talking about this: https://www.clevelandsoftwaredesign.com/pinball-parts/p/virtual-pinball-pinone-mini-machine

My idea is that someone out there has perfected the settings using both the VPX software setting and the CSD configuration tool settings. This isn’t the kind of thing that every user needs to figure out on their own. As I mentioned many are using the exact same software and the Pin One Mini.

I have also considered that I need to better mount the box to my desk. A real pinball machine is relatively fixed to the floor whereas my PinOne machine slides around pretty freely when I slap it around to nudge.

Can people who are happy with their settings share what works? Thanks in advance.

New setup

Just got into VPX. Tired of waiting for FX to drop new content. Added to my Xarcade controller. Working good, so far...

Pinone and Steam Pinball FX

Hi everyone,

I have been working with a great consultant to help me dial in my virtual pinball machine after installing all of the hardware myself.

He advised me that trying to add Steam and Pinball FX to my cabinet would be a bad idea for two key reasons.

  1. The DMD will reset itself every time and will have to be resized before every game.

  2. The back glass art will not appear on my second monitor at all.

For those who have connected their steam to their pinup popper with a pinone, have you had these problems?

He offers an alternative for running pinball FX, but it relies on joy2key and cannot leverage the accelerometer or the analog plunger. I know the pinone has those things ready to go for pinball fx. He said his config would not allow that.

Thoughts?

Starting from Scratch, What Kind of $$$ and Time Investment to get going?

Hi all, I’m an old school pinballer and never even knew this was a thing until reddit suggested it to me. Would love to get started, just wondering how much money am I looking at? I am starting from literally nothing (no PC, no monitors, etc) and don’t have a lot of technology background but can pick things up fairly quickly. I wouldn’t have to have a top of the line experience to enjoy it, just want to play my old tables again and maybe try a few new ones. Thanks!

Change table difficulty in VPX

Is there any way to change table difficulty/settings with the press of a button ?

My son has trouble playing a lot of tables, I would like to be able to switch tables to an 'easy mode' (reduce ball speed, reduce slope, more balls,...).

The way I figured would be creating copies of the tables, with fixed easier settings, but just wondering if anyone figured out another way.
