On - Off Procedure

Hi, my Ultra VP machine may be shipping tomorrow and I was wondering if someone would tell me the correct way to start my new Ultra and shut it off to prevent damaging it. I’m going to print the directions and laminate them so my wife and grandkids can easily follow them. (Me too!) Thank you!

My first (non flat pack) build

Slowly taking shape. I am not a woodworker, or even particularly handy but this little journey has taught me alot. I'll post more pics of the earlier stages and how it comes, but was particularly satisfied with this part (led matrix and inlaid flasher, other one is being dealt with now...

DMD broken only on one table - how to "factory reset"? (VPinMAME, VPX)

Strange issue, newb here. I have a bunch of VPX tables and on all of them I hit f1, show and use external DMD, and then I reposition said DMD to lay over the grill on the backglasses on my second monitor. Works fine for all of them, and I've tried probably around 30.

But it seems like the DMD is broken for exactly one table, and that is VPW's Medieval Madness. I believe the DMD worked at first, but now it shows up as a big black square and doesn't turn on. Stays black. I can resize it horizontally, but not vertically. Anyone have any idea how to "factory reset" the DMD for one table?

I am using VPX, VPinMAME, everything installed within the last month with Baller Installer

Legends Pinball Micro vs used Marvel table

I’ve been wanting to build a digital pinball machine but I don’t think I have the expertise to build one from scratch.

I see that Amazon has the Micro on sale for $375. I also have a local listing for the Arcade 1Up Marvel table with a few extra tables modded for $550.

Which one of these would you recommend a newbie go for?

Still no haptics but...

The nightmare mess under the makeshift cabinet. Got the bass shaker and amp set up as well as all the audio I need to just plug the haptics kit in minus the included speakers which I'll leave unplugged.

Gmktec k11 / rtx 5080 (oculink) / loxjie a30 amp with kanto yu4 speakers and outlaw subwoofer. Basically running 2 subwoofer if you include the bass shaker.

I have a question about graphics for side art on a pinball cabinet.

My side art was printed out on glossy paper from a huge inkjet printer. It looks absolutely incredible just a little glossy.

My question is what can I spray over top of it to protect the ink and seal it. I'm afraid if I spray something on it the ink will run. I went to Walmart and Menards this evening and found various versions of Krylon that is clear, some glossy, some matte.

With so many options I just want to make for sure I'm getting the correct product unless there's something different than just the Krylon that I found.

I thought about polyacrylic I saw that over at Lowe's but I'm not too familiar with that and it could make the ink run.

Virtual Table Wear & Tear

I recently built my first vpin machine and have been thoroughly enjoying it. However, I’ve noticed that sometimes the physics feel more predictable than real-world tables. This makes sense, since it’s programmatic and the virtual tables are always “perfect” in the sense that they always remain consistent with their original design (unless there’s a table update or manual modifications applied, of course).

It made me wonder about the idea of having “virtual wear and tear” where the physics of different components get automatically adjusted over time based on usage, like real tables. Conceptually this might look something like an nvram file that persist across play sessions and applies different modifiers based on number of games played or something like that. So over time, you’d have to adjust your play style to account for the unique configuration of your own specific virtual table. This could even include some randomization to prevent tables from “aging” identically, and of course you’d have the option of overriding or disabling these modifications to go back to the normal table settings.

I realize you could make specific setting changes manually to reflect whatever setup you want, but the idea here is to add some unpredictability to the table over time. Seems like this could add another aspect to virtual tables to make them more like “on location” tables.

Anyway, just an idea I wanted to share to see if anything like this already exists or has been discussed before. Would love to hear any thoughts about why this might be a good/bad idea.

Side strip LEDs

Do you usually run these along the sides of the cab, i guess at 90 degrees to the table, or should they be facing up at 0 degrees to the table. Facing up seems to make sense, but perhaps becomes ultra distracting. Curious on opinions both ways. Cheers.

Quiet background music? How do I fix it?

Guys I have a problem some pinball tables from the 90s like for example VPX version of Attack from Mars. I can barely hear the background music. Sounds are good but the background music is very quiet even though both settings are at 100% volume. Other tables I tried are fine and music and sounds are at proper level. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Big Trouble in Little China by Vpxpinballwizards

Lasy year Terry Red wowed many of us in the virtual pinball community when he released his truly epic version of the He-Man and the Masters of the Universe table on the Future Pinball platform.

This year it is the Vpxpinballwizards team who have gone and knocked my socks off with a brand new original table based on John Carpenter's 1986 cult classic movie Big Trouble in Little China.

\"I never drive faster than I can see...\"

The level of attention and care this table has received cannot be underestimated. It is sublime. Sure, it has a few things that need ironing out due to it only being released during the last 24 hours, and I am sure the next update will get rid of the tiny amount of glitches and make it perfection.

The modes are incredible. It has some really tough shots. It has an amazing puppack and audio call-outs. The Coup De Villes kick in right when they are needed during play and some of the effects accompanying the new 2.0 Pinupplayer are a sight to behold.

I literally have not stopped playing it since I downloaded it this morning.

\"You are not put on this earth to 'get it' Mr Burton...\"

I cannot express just how cool it is to be able to fire pinballs at Wildman on this table hoping to defeat him and move on through the other modes.

The effort that this team and others like VPin Workshop and Terry Red put into these creations in their own time really puts the likes of Zen Studios to shame in the creativity department.

This table follows hot on the heels of the Darkest Dungeon table by the same development team and the talent in this group is off the charts.

I can only wish, pray, hope and beg that they one day turn their attention and talent toward creating a table that is truly missing from the virtual pinball world and that is a table 100% dedicated to the film Halloween III: Season of the Witch. The audio and visual feast it could serve up could be something quite magical in the hands of these developers.

Thank you Vpinballwizards. You literally knocked this one out of the park and into the hell where people are skinned alive.

Honestly done with X-Arcade. The Haptics Kit is a disaster and the company is a ghost town

I'm beyond frustrated right now and just need to vent/warn anyone thinking about buying from X-Arcade. I really wanted to love this thing because the concept is cool, but the quality is cheap and the support is non-existent.

My haptics kit power died a few weeks back. It took their "support team" 5 days just to reply to my first email. After a bunch of back and forth, they finally admitted they had a "small number" of defective PCBs manufactured and mine was one of them. I asked them to expedite a replacement because I’ve already been down for weeks.

Well, the box finally showed up today. I opened it and there is no PCB. It’s just a poorly packaged wood top panel. Unbelievable.

The red flags are everywhere with this company lately:

  • Phone number is just a generic voicemail.
  • No actual names on their website or LinkedIn (just 3 anonymous "employees").
  • Support feels like an offshore desk that isn't even reading the tickets.
  • Zero transparency on who even runs the place anymore.

It feels like a company that’s about to go under.

Has anyone actually had luck getting a refund from them directly? I bought the pedestal at Micro Center about a year ago and the kit from X-Arcade direct. I'm not willing to sink more time into a company that is this incompetent. Is it worth trying to talk to Micro Center about a return since the manufacturer won't support it, or should I just go straight to a credit card chargeback for the kit? I've spent close to 1K on this and tables purchased to use with it.

Anyone else dealt with this "defective batch" of boards or did they just send me wood to stall for time? Who actually runs this train wreck?

Making a little vpin station, looking for a good mini pc

Title says it all. I'm new to vpin and have been playing Zen Pinball 2 on my PS Vita for a while and I'm looking to upgrade to a bigger vpin setup, since I'm absolutely addicted to pinball but can't get a full machine lol.

I'm just gonna be running 2 monitors. An old dell 4:3 for the top and then I just need to find a decent new one for the vertical/cabinet (that's problem number 2). But, more importantly I need to find a decent mini pc. I have a few options here and I'm curious on your thoughts! My price range is generally sub $400 CAD, but I'm willing to maybe pay more if it's worth it ($530ish).

Options from what I've found online (pics added):

  • ACEMAGIC K1 ($399 on sale)
  • KAMRUI H1 ($530 on sale) (what I'm leaning towards)
  • BeeLink Ser5 ($539 on sale).

Thoughts? I'm only really planning to run 1080p/60fps, nothing more. I just want it to be nice and smooth. If you guys have other suggestions from the ones I have posted, let me know! :)

Larger 5v led buttons?

I’ve got a simpler setup with a mini pc that I’m trying to setup with a simple usb encoder. I’d like to get a larger 50ish mm launch button with a led but they’re all 12v leds you insert not like the standard smaller 5v buttons with 2 prong. Am I missing something easy here or anyone know of any buttons like this?

Arcade Rewind

Has anyone here purchased a VP from this Perth based company and if you have, could you share your opinion, please?

I'm looking at one of their deluxe units.
