Overclocked - Lost 38lbs(213-175 lbs) in 3 months , What did I accidentally do right?

I’m not here to say that what I did was right or healthy, and I absolutely DO NOT RECOMMEND that anyone to try what I did.

Summary

About two years ago, I lost 38lbs(15–17 kg) in roughly 3 months, dropping from 213lbs(96 kg) to 175lbs(80 kg), by essentially starving myself, doing extremely high-heart-rate anaerobic full-body workouts, and taking no peds, supplements or whatever.

And even though two years have passed, and I returned to a relatively normal lifestyle with moderate exercise in my life . I didn't get a weight rebound.(last form picture is recent, I sit around 185lbs these days). I do not have the muscle mass of the past heavy lifting days thus have lower maintenance calories and despite being 35, I am maintaining my shape easier than my 20s eating the same.

I feel this extreme weight loss challenge, what would many claim that would have adverse effects, actually benefited me in the long-run.

What did I accidentally do right?

What can I do better for the future?

TLDR:

On and off, I’ve been involved in different sports and weightlifting all my life. At 2024, with work and life getting in the way, I had pretty much let training go. I would occasionally go lift weights or swim, but diet-wise... forget about it. Around the mid-2024, I realized I had become really uncomfortable with my body.

I enjoyed playing sports and going to gym for my whole life but somehow I am so lazy to think about it usually. I am unplanned and undisciplined about it and never have a dream or a goal around sports. When I started to gain weight, thoughts like “I need to take this supplement,” “I shouldn’t eat that before bed,” ,” “I should be eating this many calories“,"I need to follow this workout routine,” were constantly filling my head. , All of these half-ass learned fitness and health cliches over the years were in my head and having no real context or proper planning behind them were exhausting me. I found myself unable to stick to a plan. And I had neither the time nor the motivation for it. And I continue to slowly gain weight even though I kept exercising.

When I see 213lbs(96kgs) on my 33th birthday , I finally snapped. I thought "screw the all the noise. I just wanted to lose "weight". I want to get lighter and faster." I didn’t want to feel heavy anymore and don't care about muscular look and muscle retention.

So I completely stopped the half-assed weight training I was doing .No weightlifting. Shut my mind to all the science and designed a totally instinctive full-body workout plan in my head. My program only required a smart watch,10-litre water can(I couldn't be bothered to buy a kettlebell), a medium-resistance band, and a chair.

One-hour functional strenght training five days a week for 3 months that consisted sets of burpees, jumping jacks, lunges and squats with the water jug, seated knee tucks and different variations of crunches with chair, push-ups seated rows, frontal raises and biceps pulls with resistence band by trapping the resistance band in the door. followed by 20-min rope jumping. Idea was to get the highest hearth rate in average possible in that 1 hour. I did experiments, added more reps on each move with less resting in between etc., to increase the hearth rate average as my stamina and VO2Max was increasing over the weeks.

Every workout, my body was going into fight-or-flight mode. In none of those one-hour sessions, I allow my heart rate average to drop below 170. Whenever I thought I couldn’t do even one more burpee, it felt like there was a cylinder inside my chest filled with adrenaline.that exploded and gave me that final bit of push. I was doing these workouts after work on weekdays. Some days, I was genuinely terrified on the way home, knowing what was waiting for me.

Starting from end of the month two , I dropped this to 4 times in a week and start doing a 1 day upper body workout.

My diet, well as I said, my only goal was to "shrink" as much as possible( muscle, fat, water whatever) and able to do my exercise on very high hearth rate average. I didn’t care. I ate one meal a day after the workout, ate around half a kilo of red meat or minced beef with some cheese on the side. In the third month I started eating 200 grams of beef jerky during the day, along with 100 grams of mostly almonds and other nuts.

In the transformation you see above, not a single injection was used, not a single supplement was taken except electrolytes during workouts, and not a single calorie was counted. 213lbs(≈96kg) to 175lbs(≈79kg) around like 2.5-3 months. Not the best form for a bodybuilding competition maybe but worked out perfect for me.

I already knew this approach was not going to be sustainable, especially since I had lost around 15% of my body weight in such a short period of time. After that, I gradually got used to eating normally again and started following a weightlifting routine. But my appetite never returned to what it used to be. My resistance to hunger increased dramatically. I assume this may be related to some kind of improvement in insulin sensitivity. My energy levels, both inside and out of the gym, are quite high. Even during periods of overeating or being more sedentary, I don’t seem to gain much weight. The strange part is that I did the opposite of what the fitness rulebook says. No to little weightlifting, extreme caloric deficit during weight loss. Yet I didn't seemed to suffer much on lean muscle mass loss and adverse metabolic effects. I didn't get a major weight rebound, moreover my metabolic rate seemed like increased?

So what did I accidentally do right?

Help hit 4000+ calories on a cheat day. Ruining my diet

hey folks, i’m 25m. every weekend me and my office mates end up going to a party, and i honestly can’t avoid it because that’s pretty much my only social life right now. i live alone, so if i skip it i just feel really isolated.

i used to think i’ll make it a planned cheat day and it will be fine, but it’s kind of ruining my progress. one cheat meal turns into a whole day, then the next day also feels off, and somehow the whole week’s effort feels wasted.

overall my weekly deficit also becomes very low <100 after the big cheat day. Would appreciate any advice other than generic control yourself because I have been trying that for couple months it's clearly not working. Thanks for reading

Any advice for scale not budging?

Ive had a lot of success in past with weight watchers plan but stupidly got off it and gained the weight back. I started again 3 weeks ago dialed in at 255 lbs. Tracking everything I eat going to the gym and doing long walks every day. The scale first week dipped to 252 then 2nd week and this week its up to 254. I have tracked everything I eat and drink and my calorie intake is about 1800 to 2000 a day right in the range where ww wants me. According to fitbit i burn about 3400 calories a day and even if my calorie tracker was off by 600 a day I shpuld still be in a decent deficit. Any tips?

Rejoining - again

I’ve done WW many times over many years successfully - the last time during the pandemic (when meetings went away). I found I got frustrated with the new “ vagueness” of the program, especially the core program at that time. The whole program etc just seemed too much information - overwhelming, not to mention the program continuously changing - and I gave up. I’m semi-retired now with more time on my hands to devote to working the program. To those out there, who are working the current program, how do you like it? Is it worth jumping back in?

What are some of your favorite “eat this, not that” foods?

Some of mine include using good thin crackers in place of tortilla chips, sauté with bouillon instead of oil, mix frozen berries with plain, non fat yogurt instead of sugary or fatty yogurts, Outshine Bars (no sugar added) instead of ice cream bars, Halo Top ice cream instead of Ben & Jerry's. Salsa or hummus as dressing instead of oil.

Real advice and info

I am an on again off again Weight Watchers member and I went off Weight Watchers and started doing calorie deficit but I’m having a really hard time with it.

My life is chaotic and stressful (like it is for most of us these days) and I just don’t have the mental energy to be counting grams and calories.

Saying that I would like to know from the members here is if Weight Watchers is working for you if you are not on a GLP1?

What is working for you and what isn’t working for you for the program because I wanna pop back onto it. Try it for 30 days and see if it makes a difference.

In years past, especially with the Blue program, I was rocking it and I was losing weight but circumstances in life change and you fall off the wagon repeatedly.

I really need to get back on track but I need the easy way and Weight Watchers was much easier than anything else.

So please share your feedback and your advice and how you stick to it.

Two times in the last seven years, I’ve been focused on Weight Watchers and lost 30 pounds one time and 40 pounds another time but of course I gained it back plus some…

Help!

Any Recipes You Want to Share for the Weekend Picnics and Celebrations?

I want to make a dessert item that is good, that no one will suspect is lo-cal and something I can eat. I also want to make a high protein cold salad. We are hosting a pool party tomorrow and no one except me is on a weight loss journey, and I don't want to deal with "I can eat this, no can't have that", that's way too much sugar, etc." Mind sharing what are y'all cookin' up this weekend?

To those of you dealing with extreme heat events right now....

It is normal to retain more water when the weather is very hot. It's a temporary thing and is how your body deals with keeping your body cool when it feels very hot.

This is why people who take diuretics for health reasons are sometimes told to reduce their dosages or stop them for a while because it causes problems.

So if you're living in the middle of one of these horrid high heat events and you're finding yourself bloated, reduce your sodium, stay hydrated and don't get frustrated if the scale isn't moving as much.

Just a note: diet, low sugar drinks or zero sugar drinks often contain sodium to add flavour. So probably the best drink during very hot days is water.

Too restrictive?

I have been tracking points for a week. I have not stayed under once. I ate like crap a few days so I understand that but this is what I've eaten today and I have six points left 😑, and it's 1 pm. I feel like this is kind of ridiculous. I get 33 points a day. I understand the bagel and bar was. A lot of points but I didn't have my protein shake today so I had the protein bar. Again only been doing this for a week but I just don't see how I'll ever stay under or lose weight. Very annoyed 😂

The bottom of the barrel doctors work as clinicians at WW

I had just been approved for GLP-1s through my insurance, and my clinician is out until July 9. A sub clinician stepped in and canceled my prescription, cancelled my med+ membership, all because of my past. A past that no longer applies to me! I feel like I was discriminated against. I wish I could file a complaint but it seems you can’t without going through the med+ team.

Macro's and points

I've started again 3 weeks ago. And so far so good...

Except, I have a lot of das that I don't meet my macros. I don't eat all my points. I don't feel like starving at all... On the contrary, I'm full and the idea of eating more during te day puts me off... It feels like I'm missing a piece of the puzzle to do this like I'm supposed to.

Anyone any ideas/tips? I would really appreciate it!

Btw, I live in Europe if that matters 😁

Not using all my points?

I just started again on Sunday and I have 24 points per day. Today I used 16. My calories are within range, carbs are low and I'm just so confused. Should I be eating more? Should I have a fun snack? Should I curl up in a ball and cry because I'm overwhelmed 🤣 Any advice welcome!

Seems to be working? But one small problem.

Okay, so I posted a couple of weeks ago that I thought I had the hang of it this time. Looks like I might. It's a S - L - O - W go, but it IS going. I'm not weighing. I have "measuring clothes." My measuring shorts, which I could barely button when I started 18 days ago, are now just my shorts, because they fit and I can wear them. I have moved down to a smaller pair of measuring shorts, and they are quite snug around my midsection, but seem to be fitting a bit better every day.

It's hard not to get on the scale, but if I do and see that it hasn't moved -- or, God forbid, gone up -- I know I will get derailed. So I'm staying the course as-is for now.

I mostly eat the same thing for breakfast every day -- protein shake, zucchini muffin, berries or clementines. I'm still building my other meals and snacks around high-protein and zero-point foods. If I see I'm close to the top of my calorie bracket and I still have points left, I don't use them. If I've used all my points but I'm below my bracket, I'll allow myself some weeklies/activities.

So here's my problem: Bloating. I wake up with a flat stomach and feeling great. By the end of the day, I look 10 pounds heavier and mushy. I tend to drink a lot of La Croix (3 or 4 per day) and I'm wondering if this is it? I don't think it's dairy, because I don't have any other lactose intolerance symptoms like gas or stomach upset. Possibly wheat? I hope not. I love me some bread. Does anyone else have this from the carbonated drinks? I really hate to give them up, but I will if I have to.

I have been on and off WW since 2020. At one point I lost just over 60 lbs. I gained it all back. I restarted 3 weeks ago. l'm down 20 lbs. My NSV is in April I went to my local theme park with friends I hadn't seen in a while. I was unable to fit on coasters w/them. Today, w/my nephew, I did!

I have a Few Questions

I've recently re-joined WW, not new to the program but new to how it is now. I have a handle on the points concept because I've done the program before using the points program but I'm a little confused on the points along with calories. I'm currently set to "Lose" mode

  1. Is the calorie range listed in my macro what I should be eating to lose? Currently it's showing 1325-1525 **edited to add: I've being trying to eat in a calorie deficit, meaning eating 500 cals less than the minimim 1325, and I haven't lost a pound in 3 weeks.
  2. I get 23 points a day and 18 weeklies. Can I continue to eat if I run out of points but haven't met the calorie range?
  3. I earn approx. 15 extra weeklies per week. should I be eating those or leaving them alone?
  4. I read about "rolling over" something - weeklies I suppose....is this something I should be doing?

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Help me think of low-points somewhat healthy late night snacks

I've come to the conclusion that I am not currently capable of eliminating late night snacking.

But I can make it less damaging.

Popcorn is great, but kinda bland without butter.

Ideas?

Thank you!

P.S. please no judgment about snacking. If everyone only ate when hungry and stopped when full...WW would cease to exist!

Restaurant cuisine guides?

Hello! I’ve been off and on with WW for 20+ years and rejoined yesterday. They used to have articles that helped you figure out smart choices at restaurants. It was organized by cuisine. Could anyone point me in the right direction in the app? I’m not a huge fan of this app, compared to the last one I used (maybe 3 years ago). Thank you!

Finding My Recipes In The App

Okay I know this new app is absolutely awful. You can't find anything and they have seriously ruined the user interface. But im no slouch when it comes to finding my way around eventually. And I like to think I've done pretty well, until right now. Ive been looking for a way to view my previously logged recipes for over 30 minutes. I can't find it! I literally cannot get to any of the recipes I've already created. I can create a new one or create a new meal, but once i do it's gone and I can't get into it again to view ingredients. What on earth is happening? Can anyone explain to me how i can look at my personally created recipes and meals please. Not create them but view the ones ive already made and put into the app. Please and thank you!

WW girl dinner/picky bits ideas?

In the UK we've had a week of too hot to do anything, and now we've got a week of respite before it's too hot again.

Has anyone got some ideas of things to keep in the fridge to just throw on a plate? I'm more of a plan specific meals kind of person but it's been too hot to shop or think.

I'm assuming carrot, cucumber, pepper, cottage cheese, egg but has anyone got anything more exciting than that? Even if it's ideas of flavourings and sauces to put on it?
