Fireworks from tonight were awsome

I just wanted to say that Williamsburg did an amazing job today. The hospitality was wonderful, and the staff everywhere was so nice. Everyone had to deal with the weather but did so in a calm manner. The fireworks and drone show were amazing. I met people from all over the country and the world. What a great time. The city should be proud. HUZZAH!

My father's choice for 4th of July (VA, USA)

The Guilford Courthouse flag. Of dubious provenance, claimed to have been flown at the battle of the same name near Greensboro, North Carolina. Though considered an American defeat, the high number of casualties inflicted on the attacking British force ultimately caused them to abandon their ambitions for control there. The subsequent months would steer General Cornwallis northward to Yorktown, Virginia, where a combined Franco-American force would force a surrender in Oct 1781, effectively ending major land engagements of the American Revolutionary War in the young United States. It would be another two years until the Treaty of Paris would conclude hostilities with France and Spain, formally ending the war and marking the close of the First British Empire.

July 4th off the beaten path

are there any local parking lots and random spots you can watch CW fireworks from? when I was young we would park miles away from the action and watch the fireworks from cool obscure places but I don’t know where that would be in willamsburg. 🎉

A look at Colonial Williamsburg’s new archeology center

Colonial Williamsburg wants visitors to be able to see and interact with its archeologists as they uncover history.

That’s why it opened the new 40,000-square-foot Colin G. and Nancy N. Campbell Archeology Center in April.

WHRO News reporter Nick McNamara recently went on a tour with CW Vice President Jack Gary to learn more.

Bypass Rd. Business Closers

Anyone know what’s going on with all the hotels and businesses closing on Bypass Rd. The Travel Lodge, La Quinta Inn and Suites, Country Inn and Suites, and Hooters have all closed in the last year or so. Considering they’re all on the main road into a popular Tourist destination makes me wonder what is going on. All part of some bigger plan or just individual victims of time?

VPCC students make VA250 set pieces that will be in national spotlight this Fourth of July

Volunteers, students and staff at Virginia Peninsula Community College recently transformed the campus theater into a fabrication shop to build massive set pieces for Colonial Williamsburg’s upcoming Fourth of July program.

A dedicated crew of about 20 people worked six-hour days for nearly two weeks to construct the large-scale items for the nationally broadcast "America Made in Virginia: 250 Years Together" event.

The intensive project allowed students to master unfamiliar tools, learn advanced fabrication techniques and develop critical problem-solving skills outside of a traditional classroom setting.

250 Weekend

Is anyone planning to attend? I originally wanted to, but the triple-digit heat, humidity, crowds, and potential for $$$$ parking is making me reconsider, despite being genuinely excited for it previously.

Lively place(s) to watch the World Cup game(s)?

Tried Craft 31 & the Corner Pocket last week, there wasn’t a big turnout at either. I’m not sure there are any serious options, but I thought I’d crowd source more ideas. Thx!

Williamsburg bartender remembered for kindness, friendship

When Brian Beadle visited a Williamsburg restaurant on a recent Monday, it was a typical night of music and hanging out with friends for the 38-year-old.

However, a couple of stops and a few hours later, Beadle was struck by a train near Lafayette Street. The conductor told police a man had been lying on the tracks not far from the Williamsburg train station when the westbound CSX train rolled through about 2:30 a.m.

More than a week since the June 16 incident, police still have not said what led to Beadle being on the tracks, which were not far from Paul’s Deli and Green Leafe Cafe — two of the Scotland Street restaurants he visited that night — and Beadle’s apartment in Williamsburg Commons.

Now, as his friends and family wait for answers, they’re remembering a fun-loving man who was a well-known fixture on the Williamsburg restaurant scene.
