How much will the compendium spoil me if I haven't finished F&F?

Does the compendium reveal anything new about the story or is it just little character descriptions? Will I be spoiled for major reveals in F&F if I read it before finishing the series?

Controversial take: Nyktos is a jerk

So I'm currently reading F&F before reading FBAA 6.

And I feel like Nyktos is a jerk. I'm only on book 1 but I hope he gets a redemption ark because right now I don't know how anyone likes him let alone more than Casteel.

Even after finding out how Sera was raised and how nothing was her choice he's still acting like it's her fault and he'll never be able to trust her even though she has legit feelings for him.

He's acting like a jerk and I don't think I like him right now.

Am I having too strong a reaction? I mean I know they end up together because of FBAA but ugh not a fan of him right now.

Why do people like F&F more than FBAA when it feels like the same story?

So I've read the first 5 books of FBAA only because I've been listening to them in Graphicaudio. I bought the regular audio for book 6 but decided to read F&F first before book 6 and....

It feels like the same story?

She's a maiden, the dagger, rambling, etc etc.

I know the point is to show the parallels between Sera and Poppy but I'm not sure why people think the series is better than FBAA.

Maybe I just haven't read far enough? Also wondering where the smut is considering I've seen people say it's even more graphic than FBAA and that's already pretty graphic.

Anyways why do people think the series is better than FBAA? Because I'm not seeing it. Do I dislike the story? No it's fine to see the parallels but at the same time it just feels like almost the same story with different characters.

I'll keep listening but just don't get it.

Do I need to read F&F to understand FBAA 6?

So I fell in love with this series when I discovered it in GraphicaudioDec of last year. I'm hooked on the GA version so was waiting for the books to come out there. WellFBAA 5 part 2 was supposed to be out in April but was pushed back to yesterday. I've binged listened to it since I got it on my audible app. The ending was amazing! Love it. And now I'm dying as book 6 is only going released in 3 parts and part 1 is only coming out in September.

I've already bought book 6 in regular audiobook and the entire F&F series as much as I want to jump right into book 6 I wanted to know if there's anything I will learn that will be useful if I read the F&F series first?

I'll be honest I don't really like the narrator for either series (I think it's the same person) but I can't wait another year to get the entire book 6 in GA (though I will be buying Anyways any thoughts?

Thanks!

Grade 1 vs grade 2 braille

So I grew up sighted and never learned braille. In my late twenties I learned braille visually online which I think really helped me learn it by touch afterwards. Although I can read grade 1 and 2 braille visually as I`m losing my vision that`s not very useful anymore obviously. Now I can read grade 1 braille by touch I`m not very fast but I was just loaned a braille display and am using it to read books on kindle that don`t have audio versions.

So my question is, can I get away with reading only grade 1 braille for the rest of my life? Knowing that I only use it to leisure read and check spelling of words.

I like the idea of grade 2 braille but it's SO MUCH information. I mean I like that the, and, it etc have their own characters and things like ch, st, in, en etc but when it comes to contrations like ion, words like him etc I just get lost. Is it just because I don't have a lot of experience using it? Will I get better if I use it more? I mean I'm already a scrubber for grade 1 braille even though I know I'm not supposed to and only use my pointed fingers because it's like my other fingers don't exist or have no feeling that touching the braille does nothing to send info to my brain about what letter I'm reading that I can't imagine trying to spend 20min to figure out a contraction I don't know/remember.

Anyways anyone have any advice? Thanks!

How to choose a braille display as a person learning braille

So I learned grade 1 braille a few years ago but haven't really used it that much but am starting to get back into reading braille again. The large books for grade 1 braille were one of the reasons I stopped practicing. I`m also about to start learning grade 2 braille.

Anyways the only way I can get a braille display is used as where I Live I can only get one for free if it's to be used for work. I want to be able to read books in braille in my personal time for kindle books that don't t have an audiobook version.

A new braille display is out of the budget which is why I am looking for used models more in my price range.

I have 2 options in front of me. A Focus 40b for 900$ with no accessories. I looked online and apparently you just need a normal USB-C charge cord or whatever the common one is that`s used today.

Or the other option I found is an Orbit 20 for 700$ almost brand new. Comes in original box with the charge cords manuals and all that jazz.

I read online that a 20 braille display is kind of small if you want to read novels but it`s really portable which I like because I'm usually reading in the car with my guide dog at my feet and my kids yelling in the back seat haha. But having to pan for the next line might get annoying.

A 40 cell display is chunkier but will allowed me to read more fluidly and pan less but I have no concept of how big either version is.

Anyways am I crazy for wanting to buy used? If not what do people think of a 20 vs 40 cell display especially as I want to use it to read books with my phone.

Thanks!

Going crazy trying to get gauge help!

Ok so my pattern ask for a gauge of 18 stitches on size 8 needles.

Edit: I've done 6 swatches over the last few days trying to get gauge.

Size 2.5 = 14 stitches

Size 3 = 16 stitches

Size 4 = 20 stitches

Size 5 = 20 stitches

Size 6 = 21 stitches

I've done three swatches, even though my yarn has a recommended gauge of 20 stitches on size 6 needles I go 20 stitches on size 4 needles, Then 16 stitches on size 3 needles and 14 stitches on size 2.5 needles.

I'm going crazy and can't figure out what is happening.

If anyone can give me advice on my swatches and how to get my pattern gauge then I'd be greatful thanks.

Here's the link to the pattern I want to make: https://www.originallylovely.com/blogs/knitting-archive/simple-summer-tank-top-knitting-pattern

So I'm knitting a cardigan for the first time and the pattern says to do the increases while knitting and the purl the second rows. My purl rows are always super loose so I decided to knit the whole way through which means it's going to be knit in garter instead of stockinette. I'm blind so can't see the difference will it look ugly the way I'm knitting? Any tips on how to tighten up my purls?

Thanks!

So I'm thinking of getting a penfriend to label my food and medication among other things. It seems like the labels are sticky and it might not be the best idea to stick them directly to a bag of frosen veggies etc.

Has anyone use a penfriend and have tips on the best way to make sure the labels are as reusable and transferable from one item to the next?

Thanks!
