The Winter Incident

Story time

But first,
Let this serve as an example of what not to do on a kayak. I am aware of the VERY possible outcome this could have resulted in. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS SHIT.

4 months ago (February), I kept reading that winter was prime time for big musky. I looked at the shiny new Shimano baitcaster in my hands, pictured my kayak, and a lightbulb went off. I packed my things for the river! Amazing idea, right?

The river running at about 12,000 cfs at 16ft, in summer it’s usually around 4-8 feet.

Ignoring that little detail

I launched anyway, totally oblivious. The last time I was out was late summer when the water was a cakewalk; this was a completely different beast. The second I hit the water, the current violently whipped my bow downstream. That should have been my first warning. Instead, I just gritted my teeth, turned upstream, and spent an entire hour fighting for my life to travel a grand total of .2 miles.

I THEN ANCHOR????

My high-tech anchor (a bag of rocks tied to the rear carrying handle) actually held. I happily cast my bucktail, but then, fucking Poseidon himself (the current) grabbed the lure and held it deep. I chalked it up to being "too close to the bridge pilings" and pulled the rocks up, *immediately* hitting Mach 1 as I drifted downstream.

ANCHORS AGAIN

(just fuckin lobbing this 10lb bag of rocks, no regard for physics)

Threw a maybe 10 casts, whilst ice chunks were hitting my boat & anchor line, ice actually hits my paddle too & knocks it loose (saved it 😎). So i deemed this spot too icy and fast. So I pulled up my anchor again!

Then I cast a Mini Medusa, whilst flying

Of course, I hooked an unholy snag. In a stroke of absolute genius, I cranked my drag to the MAX and used the rod and reel to winch my entire kayak upstream toward the snag. This is where it almost got lethal. I spent thirty minutes teetering on the fucking edge of submerging the bow just to save a $25 lure. I eventually recovered the Medusa (somehow), called it a day, and paddled home.

Thanks for reading!

Whos got a 4mm baht franco?

Hi!
I just purchased a 4mm thai franco. Anyone got any pics of them in this size? i’ve had a normal 14k 4mm franco, never a 23K Thai one at this MM though.

[WTB] 22K+ chains

Hello!
Looking for high karat chain(s). Looking for around 2oz of gold
Preferably 22-24 inch
Budget little bit over $10K
Venmo preferred

I feel like I am. I’m going to proceed with my actions though. Drove all the way to NYC from upstate to pay $10,500 for a 60 gram chain, not a 59 gram chain. (I also paid a hefty premium. People next door can get me similar for $10/gram less). I’ve been screwed via gold too many times to let $10k chain have a tainted history (and inaccurate hallmark).

AIO by going through with this return?

Hello! Recently bought this chain, absolutely gorgeous dual texture on one side, other side is clean & polished.
Selling because the dealer decided to stamp 9999 on a 23.58K chain (tests at 98.2% gold). If it doesn't sell for listed price - I’m going to drive back to NYC and return it for a full refund. Petty? Maybe lol, don't care though.

Specs:
• 60.2 grams
• 6ishMM wide
• 24 inch long
• M clasp

Price: $11,000 USD

User pays first or we use u/zenpathfinder as a middleman.
Payment: Venmo or wire transfer
Thanks for looking!

Just grabbed this from Chinatown in NY. Love the dual finish. One side has a sharp sandblasted & diamond cut texture, while the other side is classic polish. Shimmers like crazy.

9999 gold, 60.2G, 24 inch, maybe 6mm

u/-Inter — 18 days ago

24 inch 5-6mm (idrk), 60 grams of 9999 gold! Probably the coolest piece i’ve found, really like the dual texture.

Planning a 3 hour drive to NYC to grab a 24k franco.

I’ve got 10.5k cash and i’m looking for something in the 64-65g (2oz) range

i’ve been calling shops in queens and manhattan and getting quotes all over the place; anywhere from 7% to 30% premiums.

I’d rather stick to Canal St, but i’ll go to Flushing if the deals are actually better out there.

As a first timer, is 10-12% actually doable on Canal, if I have cash in hand? I’m ready to walk if they don’t meet my ask.

a few other things:

any specific shops or stalls you’d recommend?

is flushing worth the extra drive or is the difference marginal?

Doing my best not to waste the gas just to leave empty handed. if you got a specific shop you trust, lmk. i’d appreciate it.

Individuals who have not done business in this area, please DNI.

Hello!

I am probably gonna drive 4 hours to NYC to shop for a 24K 2 oz chain. (franco or cuban)

I am wondering what premium I should try for at the markets? I plan to hit Canal st and then Flushing if I can’t find what I want at a good price.

I had a shop in flushing quote me like spot+7% if I pay cash (this was over the phone), I am a bit skeptical of that. They do have good google reviews though.

Need thoughts from NYC gold buyers please!

Hi, i’m from upstate & plan to visit the city soon to buy a 2OZ gold chain. I’m in search of low premium 22K-24K dealers.

Currently, I have these places on my maybe visit list. Please provide any insight you can on other local shops or the reputation of these ones!

I’m in the market for a few oz of gold. I’m stuck between a 5MM 24K 24 inch cuban link or maybe a figaro + rope with pendant.

Hardest decision OAT

I won’t opt for anything below 22K. It just doesn’t shine how high purity does.

Hi!

This is my last post before I go get a brand new one made.

I’m looking for a cuban chain that’s a little over 2oz

Specs should be around 5mm 24 inch

22K-23K is fine as well

$11,000 budget

I like Venmo the most

Item shipped to me & verified first - unless you have an undeniably good reputation - or we use middleman (I prefer u/zenpathfinder). I have very good references and feedback. Multiple $5000+ sales completed here.

Send me other high purity chains in this price range if you have any, sometimes I impulse buy if they’re cool lol.

Thank you!
