What happens if someone without issues is put on quetiapine 300mg?

Personally on 300mg now being increased to 400mg as of this week. No side effects but have been taking as prescribed. Starting to feel like maybe what they called psychotic is actually not a problem or unreal, just normal and real and everyone else also handles this but well. Or that it's being made up. That sort of thing.

Thus, curious what happens to a 'normal' person on 300mg--how would they feel?

My doctor previously said that the fact that I didn't have side effects suggested treatment plan was correct, but I don't know, I'm not convinced. The 'symptoms' haven't gone away.

How do I know if it's correct what I'm taking? How do I know I'm not somehow deeply faking it and tricking everyone by explaining normal things inaccurately?

(EDIT to add hx: 23F, Aussie, ASD2, hx MDD (now more likely BPAD), ?SZ (or explained by BPAD), GAD, hx AN-R. Have been through several APs this year with varying bad side effects.)

How has the rise of fakery/exaggeration etc. changed how you talk about issues?

I used to be much more open about certain symptoms/diagnoses etc. I've experienced; with the amount of fakery I've seen, I now largely no longer discuss certain things on a public platform unless within a support group catered towards it, or with very roundabout and specific wording (e.g. changing 'likely diagnosis of x' to 'experiences in common with potential/possibility of x but not formally diagnosed').

Also curious around how fakery may have changed your experiences e.g. at the doctors, especially with 'trendy' diagnoses, and if it's impaired the care you've sought.

bought another CD!

I only let myself buy them when I've done something worth rewarding. I passed my placement last semester but hadn't bought a CD yet for reasons. Anyway, today I decided that the ebay listing I had open was gonna be the one (had also been considering A Kind Of Hush or Karen's solo album, but also reviewing ebay etc regularly to check if there were any especially cheap etc.).

So this Christmastide I'll have the Christmas Collection (both CDs) to cheer my Christmas!

That will add to my collection which is already: Ticket To Ride, Close To You, Carpenters, A Song For You, Voice of the Heart and Interpretations.

I love CDs and ripping the mp3s so I can listen to them on my laptop or my phone anytime without ads; listened on repeat to keep myself together when I was last in the psych ward. Right now I'm listening to "If I Had You".

What's your favourite track off the Christmas Collection? I'm extremely fond of Karen's rendition of "Christ Is Born".

Private hospitals in Vic?

Currently doing DBT outpatient through one of them, but wondering, if private inpatient would be recommended, which hospital would suit the needs best? (Health insurance, after wait period of another month or so, will cover IP psych.)

Context: previous ED (full remission), MDD actually possibly BPAD, unspecified psychosis (either BPAD-caused or schizophrenia). Psychosis is the current concern. Medication being adjusted still and titrating up to therapeutic dose currently, but outpatient. Just for the context of what I'd be looking at.

If any outpatient groups etc. recommended for psychosis, also please suggest!

Psychiatrist seems to think all ?bipolar/psychosis symptoms explained by BPD, so feeling a bit lost here and considering switching psychiatrists and thus ultimately possibly hospital systems too. (According to friends, things described as psychosis have been present largely for the last ~eight months, with occasional gaps of a few weeks before returning.) (If psychiatrist recommendations, open to them also. English first language.)

Public health system also recently diagnosed BPD, and given hospitalisation NOT recommended in the context of BPD, concerned that even with legitimate need (e.g. suicide risk in the context of commands from Entities), may slip through cracks.

Longer-term psychologist etc. does NOT think BPD explains everything or that it's even relevant in clinical picture (diagnosed ASD and undiagnosed psychotic disorder would in combination likely explain borderline traits--also doesn't show e.g. volatility of emotions as seen in BPD). Family agree BPD doesn't appear to fit in day-to-day either.

'Complex'/'atypical' kind of case, apparently.

What should I expect being assessed for EDS in Melbourne?

been advised to seek assessment. hypermobile as per physio. suspect beighton 8/9 (hasn't yet been measured by professional but EDS friend agreed that joints likely qualify--4 certainly do, the other 4 not so certain). no diagnosed family history, but some extremely suspect history eg from father, one branch of paternal family has it showing up a bunch.

EDS friend thinks likely a rare type as opposed to hEDS given suspected comorbidities (medically/psychologically complex).

where should I expect to be referred to and what should I expect GP to measure or ask about initially? what costs? what preparation/data gathering should I do? does it warrant a long appt or just a normal one?

aus citizen, medicare+hcc.

most of the EDS groups seem to talk USA, so figured asking here was best.

how do they know they're alive

it doesnt think its alive see. its a hollow shell it got carved out. you see it was a premature baby and it was a miracle but it actualy didnyt survive, it's haunted by all thew ones who didnt and shoulve. they've ytaken over a bit and now it doesn't actually exist. it's rotting inside and its scared to cut because it will show its rotting but They keep wanting it to.

it has proof its dead see as it was writing this the music said 'lady please love me now i am dead'.

so anyway it doesnt want to cut but it also doesnt want to rot see it wants to live but it doesnt know how to be resurrected please how do they know theyre alive how do they keep living how does it get resurrected what does it do please?

sorry

also what does it tell its doctor? it knows it 'sounds crazy' and it's extremely difficult to communicate because the words ll run away and become roundabouts it goes round and round and round in its little thought-car see.

when will the quetiapine work. its on 250mg atm but going up. should it just make the jump to 300 now to make it act faster or is that dangerous. otherwise it is going to get there in a several days. it is impatient it wants to exist but it doesnt and theyre all telling it things sorry

Can BPADII have psychosis?

have been told possibly 'bipolar w psychosis', but just curious what that is. have never had true mania, but have experienced hallucinations/delusions in the course of hypomania resulting in one hospitalisation for acting under a delusion to self-injure.

How do I get mental health evaluation?

Have had multiple professionals inform me that I should get an evaluation for schizophrenia and/or bipolar with psychosis. But when I've asked the people they told me to ask (CATT, psychiatrist, etc.), I'm basically (this is the impression) laughed out of countenance. What does an evaluation in this context mean, and who am I supposed to go to?

Also possible, of course, that it's not these but something else psychosis-related. Also personally present in general as relatively put together, articulate etc. (Not accurate to all of the time, most days have at least an hour or two of some degree of disorganisation present in writing, speech and thought. <- has been told this by friends.)

Just really unsure where to get 'official diagnosis' from, of whatever is going on, especially when hospital system has decided it's 'just' borderline, which makes no sense to longer-term clinicians.

Have private health insurance and thus can go private for whatever, and willing to pay if recommended.

Feeling very lost about the whole matter. Thanks. Can provide more clarity if needed in comments, open book.

Are support groups helpful?

Currently attending a DBT group weekly, which is helpful for some things, but... basically nobody there understands when sharing at check-in, which feels incredibly isolating. (When they understand, if needed, they go to bat though, very sweet group.) Was wondering if some kind of psychosis support group irl/over live call is a good idea, or if that's a great way for everyone to be dragged down into each other's stuff.

What if fails both units this semester?

Short form, been doing moderately badly in the silly old brain. Got extension for assignment, due tomorrow extended form. Hasn't started writing because can't get brain to work in full sentences very easily let alone proper academic ones. Not really sure what to do.

[Context--the professionals say it's experiencing psychosis. (Disagrees but never mind, the point is that it's slightly more 'disorganised' in thoughtform than usual.) Taking medication but still bringing it up to a therapeutic dose (therapeutic dose 300-800mg, currently on 200mg). So hopeful for things to improve but concerned if they don't in time enough.]

Anyway, point of the matter is--it's doing 50% loading this semester for reasons, but what happens if it fails both units it's doing? In terms of being allowed to continue? Has previously failed a 50% load unit and had to repeat it and if it had failed it would have been kicked out, so feeling even more concerned about this semester's stuff given its honestly pretty horrible transcript. (Yes, it's got allowances with the disability folks long since.)

Wondering if necessary to talk to student central or something, but honestly just the silly old brain is so scattered it wouldn't be sure what to talk about.

Not really wanting to defer.

Projected graduation end of next year if all goes well.

Please provide thoughts input sorry. Is perfectly willing to provide more detail, but not sure what is relevant so isn't wanting to ramble too much.

Also, how to know when it should be getting special consideration? It did last semester for one assignment, but that was because it was literally in the psych ward at that time, which felt considerably more clear-cut.

Thanks in advance and sorry for its slightly odd typing style. It's not a person.

Fidget rings!

Moderately hypermobile as per physio, still waiting until other current issues die down to seek further testing re what that actually means. BUT. Hands extremely hypermobile, can sublux almost all joints, that has been main stim for entire life (ASD2), never been able to break it because nothing else fills the niche. But recently, in asking around specifically for how to break that stim in the context of hypermobility, fidget rings were suggested. Bought some super cheap ones off amazon just to try as having never had rings in the past. It's been less than a week but subluxing has gone down from at least hundreds of times a day, especially to one specific joint, to probably less than twenty. Having the spinner ring (it looks like a daisy this specific one) on the finger that most gets subluxed has apparently provided enough of a replacement that not going to subluxing just absentmindedly anymore!! Feeling so pleased these recent days. Thought would post in case anyone else hadn't run into them because personally had not until lately.

Milo?

Obviously Milo itself has milk powder, so what do people use when they just want a nice mug of hot Milo? I think the plant-based stuff has been discontinued (;-;) but I just want something that's malty and chocolatey and not just a straight chocolate powder (Cadbury's and possibly homebrand are those, from memory). I do drink the df up and go's, but they get expensive fast. Also open to mixing a combination of multiple powders (usually mix INC vanilla protein powder with cocoa powder to make hot chocolates personally) to hit the spot. I suspect it's the malty flavour that's lacking.

The last time I was in a psych ward I just drank the Milo because I wanted something vaguely comforting and coffee was NOT going to be enough, but I really want to have something so that even if I have to bring it in myself or have someone bring it in, I can drink something warm and sweet and comforting while I'm down and out like that. I never drink it outside the ward, but for some reason the brain just craves those flavours every time I'm in there and I hate that.

(I hope mentioning non-vegan stuff is acceptable here. I don't want to be like this so I'm working on finding a way around it without just denying myself during those times because I need every shred of comfort I can get, unfortunately.)

Psych admissions: longer invol, or just the same?

Looking for specifically Aussie (Vic) perspectives so didn't post in mh subs.

Have been admitted several times 'voluntarily'--the kind where if objection made, it becomes involuntary. Have been aware of this and thus not fought at all in fear of being made invol patient. Curious, though, if admission tends to be longer purely on the basis of being invol (flagging possible 'lack of insight' etc.), or if a patient will be discharged just the same whether vol or invol given the same course of admission and stay. Like, what does it really change, if pt isn't going to try and self-discharge and is compliant with everything including discharge?

(Have never been admitted invol, so don't know how it really works--though has sensibly legally nominated someone for advocate if that ever eventuates.)

Also would be curious to know if different health services vary in any such things. Only ever interacted with local catchment, never had an episode outside local catchment area necessitating contact with services.

Can a person with a psychotic disorder be a good nurse?

Assuming it is well controlled with medication/lifestyle changes etc., what is your opinion on someone who has experienced psychosis becoming a nurse? And how should they protect their health? Should their coworkers or management know for everyone's safety? Are there any suggestions on areas to avoid, ways to keep everyone safe, etc.? Any advice or the like?

Feeling a little upset seeing the Lindsay Clancy case all over the news lately.

How do you handle clients presenting with some degree of psychosis/psychotic thinking?

I know at times I can confuse people with the logical connections that they don't see the logic to, and I'm wondering how y'all deal with people who aren't fully in your reality, phrasing things oddly, responding to internal stimuli, operating under certain ideas you might call delusional. Wondering what I can do to make it easier for my therapist especially when if I talk too much about certain things I lose the ability to communicate clearly, get repetitive or scrambled or what have you. I can't help but feel guilty for showing up all scattered because I should be a good client who talks clearly but I keep getting lost sometimes or have to talk around a subject to avoid triggering everything. Is it okay to talk in the third person sometimes? It's easier to refer to itself as 'it' at times because it doesn't exist. Hope this question makes sense sorry. Also, what do you look out for in terms of assessing client safety in this kind of context if they're not as communicative or not understanding your questions as easily, getting circumstantial, etc.?
