Kamome Shirahama Says Fans Are Why ‘Witch Hat Atelier’ Is Inclusive

New interview! I appreciate her for this: “I was thinking about how if I were to invite all these fans from around the world into my world—the one I've created—then it's kind of obvious that there should be diversity and inclusion. I think that's what shows through.”

Where Was Anime At San Diego Comic Con 2026?

What is anime’s place in these larger comic conventions? do you attend any comic conventions and actively look for anime? I wonder why Japanese colonies don’t invest more in these broader pop culture conventions

Sooncha's YANG CAN'T LIVE ALONE manga to leave Manga UP!

Summary: A serious college student and a friendly Chinese exchange student find the answer to love problems in each other!

Yuu is as industrious and hardworking as a college student can be, but that means guys tend to find her serious demeanor intimidating. Should she have to change her strong-willed personality to be “number one” in someone’s heart? Yang is a puppy-like Chinese exchange student who wanders into Yuu’s life after she rescues him from a tricky situation. He asks her to be his bodyguard, and they form a new “professional” relationship. But soon, deeper feelings begin to take root…

Im so sad because I just got into this series and read all the chapters and even have my English preorder for volume one. Now I can’t collect the series if it’s going to go on hiatus or if the publisher is going to be completely different.

Lezhin Comics Japan announces end of service in January 2027

What do you guys think about this? I’m always worried about my purchases one day being gone completely but I want to continue supporting the authors. I wish there was some way to archive my personal collections and purchases :(

Mob Psycho 100 Director Yuzuru Tachikawa Shared Cut Reigen-Focused Scene

Director Tachikawa showed storyboard corrections from the second season and had a lot more added in the storyboards than what made the final episode cut.

I always knew he was invested in Reigen. Or just gives so much depth to his character and his emotional battles between him and his scamming ways.

For those not attending or buying a badge this year, what is holding you back?

Article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/kalaichik/2026/06/30/us-anime-conventions-are-pricing-out-fans-with-higher-entrance-costs/

I know most people aren’t paying last minute ticket prices anymore since it’s $195, but these days I’ve been waiting last minute for things to see if my friends will go. I don’t remember AX being capped last year but it’s definitely not going to reach last year’s number.

I’m not really excited for the panels especially after years of waiting in line, filling up, and getting turned around. Then, I also never get picked for autograph stuff, and I don’t want to wait in line for booth stuff that ends up getting capped. Also Day 4 barely has anything so it doesn’t feel great to be wasting time and gas just for a half day.

This sub is a lot of people attending AX but I want to hear from those who aren’t going this year.

U.S. Anime Conventions Are Pricing Out Fans With Higher Entrance Costs

Already been hearing from others how EVO was a dead Zone this year and some even left early. Yeah I know about the rule changes and whatnot but even smaller events seem to be dwindling down from the last years.

I really want to see more people out and about again, but rising costs, unemployment, and the political climate… I don’t even know if anime conventions can be much of an escape when it costs $195 for Anime Expo or $175 for AnimeNYC.

Remember when 3 day tickets were $60? Forbes was keeping track

I went to AnimeNyc for the first time last year and it wasn’t that great in terms of things to do. I felt like having been to other events like Otakon and Anime Central, it’s criminal to be charging so much for tickets. Starting to feel a “the ticket prices are too damn high” mood ala Jimmy McMillan

“Despite its title as “The East Coast’s Largest Anime Con,” Anime NYC’s self-reported turnstile (non-unique) attendance totaled to 148,000, which is only a third of Anime Expo’s 2025 numbers. Yet there’s only a $20 price difference for a noticeable gap in programming.”

BL artist JAXX apologizes and cancels Song of the Wasteland

I’m just starting to see how common this slave/master trope is in Korean webtoons. I’m glad JAXX apologized but the fact that a prominent artist like them would stoop to drawing something like this…

U.S. And Global Expectations Push Anime Stories To Diversify

“Due to the decline of Kadokawa’s early success indicator in its pipeline—isekai novels—the likely conclusion would be fewer isekai anime in the future. For now, 2026 is set to be in line with the past four years. There will be 33 titles for this year, including the two upcoming series without release dates.”

Holy hell an of over 30 isekai titles a year… I remember KADOKAWA said they wanted isekai to take over the world but that’s kinda overdoing it

Painter of the Night Returns to Lezhin Comics on July 22nd

Any one else excited to see this come back?! It’s their position swap AU that’s continuing so I’m excited to see lowborn Seungho and nobleman Nakyum 😋 Can’t believe it’s been two years since the main story ended and almost four since the AU’s last update…

Thoughts on decline of international Webtoons and struggles of Webtoon creators?

I’m reading through this opinion piece and I think this writer put to words how many people in the webtoon space are feeling about the English/non-Korean and non-Japanese webtoon creators. I’ve seen several

discussion threads on Reddit about this exact feeling:

“But I haven’t seen a new comic advertised to me that I actually wanted to click on in years (unless it’s a new comic from a creator I was already following.)”

I didn’t even know that Tapas didn’t have English language originals anymore? Though I stopped using that platform many years ago.

Does China care about ONE PIECE and Dragon Ball?

There’s a chart looking at Baidu Search (kinda like Google Search). I’ve had a theory that Toei has been pushing ONE PIECE and Dragon Ball hard in the US because the franchises are dying or dead among younger Chinese people.

Honestly I wonder if Japanese anime is dying because of all the censorship. I grew up in Hong Kong but that’s so far away from Mainland culture. I didn’t see many people talk about these two series.

I’ve been a lurker of r/Webtoons and I’m really curious what people here think about piracy since these were two big sites for webtoon piracy. I know this dot focused on the legal platforms, but I’m curious what people think about these pirating platforms getting taken down.
