Small rant about forceful features that are constantly shoved down our throats

recently got my first ever OnePlus phone, the 512/16gb variation and i couldn't be happier with this upgrade, coming from a xiaomi poco x3 pro, this phone is simply incredible;

out of the box it had the "CPH2747_16.0.1.303 ex 01" version installed, and now i've unfortunately finally decided to update it to the latest version, that being the "16.0.9.400" version, and i've gotta say, i was so utterly disappointed to see how these sh#tty ai this ai that ai everything features are being forcefully shoved down our throats, without having any say in the matter and given a simple option to turn it on and off. ugh.

prime example being this useless "create" section that got added to the photos app, i know that i can simply ignore it and all, and i am, but just get my frustration, coming from my old poco phone where it had all sorts of useless and bloat-wary type apps, even ads at times, and a horrendous stock photos gallery & videos experience, the OnePlus phone felt like a breath of fresh air for me, until now, with these useless changes

another one i've noticed is the file dock, such a neat and cool feature, it used to open my PDF files in firefox, as set by default by me, now it doesn't, it just defaults to the "documents" app which btw appeared out of nowhere? (also, none of this stuff is ever mentioned in any of these release notes? like damn, one would really appreciate knowing in advance what's gonna be installed or not with an update, is that so much to ask for?)

anyhow, i've yet to explore and get disappointed more, i'm sure, but also there's as many ups as there is downs to this all, i'm not just bashing the entire thing, i'm very satisfied with this phone, just disappointed and completely fed up with how technology in recent years is just forcefully shoving all this ai bs down our throats, at least give us an option to turn that sh#t off, damn.

is there any way for me to downgrade the photos app to it's previous version and keep it there for life?

Should one even consider buying the OnePlus 15 with recent News/Rumors?

I'm not up to date with things but the whole "OnePlus is leaving the western market" stuff is making me second guess myself, I'm planning on getting this wonderful piece of technology soon, but at the same time doubtful a bit.

  • What if OnePlus does end up "leaving the western market"?
  • What exactly does that mean for someone in Europe?
  • Will the software & security updates just... stop?
  • Will the PlayStore not work, same as Huawei phones?

Any guidance / advice is appreciated, excuse all the questions, Thanks.

Has anyone been getting sponsored reels on Instagram lately?

For a while now it feels like sponsored reels have been slipping through my uBlock (using Firefox) so i was wondering if anyone else noticed the same?

Did meta change something on their end and these sponsored reels aren't possible to be blocked now or is there a fix that i'm not aware of?

Thank you

Will we ever get the option to customize how grenades are equipped/thrown?

I'm used to the way nades work in Apex Legends for example, or any other game for that matter (Valorant too for example).

If we could get a customizable option in the settings where I could toggle it to behave as follows: "select nade/gadget > have my operator hold the nade/gadget > only throw the nade/gadget after i hold the left click and release"

such a feature would be AWESOME.

I know it's been asked a few times in this subreddit already, but those posts are like 10 years old, is there any hope for the current Siege to receive such a QoL update?

G502 Hero First time user with one little question

First off i'm impressed with this mouse, just one question:

is there any hope for a software update in the future (or a newer & more improved model of the same mouse) that features a scroll wheel that's a little less stiff & noisy on the locked end, and a customization option for the free rolling mode where you can adjust the sensitivity?

just barely moving the mouse makes it scroll up & down sometimes, which throws me off completely and is quite honestly a tiny bit frustrating

Can we get the flexibility of remapping the voting buttons?

for whatever reason, my F5 and F6 buttons just won't co-operate with me, and i cannot for the life of me vote yes or no when a surrender vote shows up, or when i get accidentally killed by an ally and i want to say "it was a mistake, not intentional friendly fire"

What's the current verdict regarding ApkPure then?

Ever since it got caught with that Telegram apk malware, I've avoided apkpure like the plague. Now I'm looking to patch Strava but the only source for Strava APK's is apkpure, since apkmirror doesn't have them.

Basically just give up on patching this app or risk it via apkpure?

A Question to anyone who owns the OnePlus 15

Just a quick question about the OnePlus 15 since I'm really considering getting one, I've had these two problems with my current xiaomi phone since forever:

  • The default video player (MiVideo) which i unfortunately cannot uninstall, has this one pesky perk about it, whenever a video that I've played straight from my gallery ends, I get blasted with this ugly ending screen that shows "other suggested short form content", nobody has ever asked for this feature yet here we are.
  • The default PDF reader literally always opens with an ad first, and only after I close it do I get to view the document I wanted to see in the first place.

Are there any of these things present with OxygenOS in the OnePlus 15?

Or are there any other similar types of annoying things that happen, that I should be aware of?

Thank you in advance for any replies.

(posting it here because for whatever reason my post keeps getting auto removed from the oneplus subreddit, weird)

Heya beautiful people, I'm new to Obsidian & finally decided to dedicate some time to explore it & learn it thoroughly (plus planning on making the move from the slow & buggy mess: Notion).

My main point with this post is asking for some direction/advice/plugin suggestions/any youtube videos you think are a must watch for beginners like me

I'm planning to replicate the same workflow I have with Notion, but in Obsidian, and as reference, I've been using my own version of Chris Punt's "Life OS" Notion dashboard, Linked here.

I've just finished watching a video about Obsidian's new "bases" feature and it's pretty much the same as Notion, that's already promising.

(plus, I've been using Notion calendar alongside Notion itself and it's become a necessity for me).

To the more experienced Obsidian users, my question(s):

  • To what degree do you think, is it possible to replicate a notion workflow, but in Obsidian? the same one as Chris's Life OS dashboard? Is it even achievable? should I even waste my time with this or just stick to Notion? will it be worthwhile?
  • What type of plugins would you recommend for me to explore?
  • To anyone who has exported and imported stuff from Notion & Microsoft To-Do: How smooth has that been? (I'm planning to do the same but have a fear of stuff breaking, lol)
  • A sort of unrealistic ask but: My ideal goal with all this is to have a multitude of apps (kinda), all in one, I'm thinking: Notion+Notion Calendar (using it as a Habit tracker+Time blocking/management), then also: Microsoft To-Do (for Tasks & reminders etc)

P.S: I've been scouring the interwebs and added quite a few plugins already (which I found interesting and might use), I'll filter through these later on.

Sorry for the long post, any help is appreciated!
