Day 47: Quit weed only to realize I'd just been trading one addiction for another this whole time

So I'm coming up on 50 days clean (which still feels surreal to type) and I need to share something that's been messing with my head.

I quit smoking because it was controlling my life. Wake and bake, smoke before work, smoke during lunch break, smoke after work, smoke before bed. Rinse and repeat for like 6 years straight. You all know the drill.

And about 3 weeks into my quit, I started noticing a pattern. On days when the cravings got really bad, I'd pour myself a drink "just to take the edge off." Then that drink became two drinks. Then it became every night. Then it became "well I'm not smoking anymore so at least I'm doing SOMETHING better, right?"

Wrong. Last week I had this moment of clarity where I realized I was doing the exact same thing, just with a different substance. Trading my bong for a bottle. Same avoidance behavior, same need to "check out" from reality, same organizing my day around when I could use. The only difference was society thinks wine is classier than weed, I guess?

So my brain just went "okay, we can't smoke anymore, but we still need SOMETHING" and latched onto alcohol instead.

Where I'm at now: I'm not going back to smoking - that's non-negotiable at this point. But I also can't pretend that white-knuckling through weed cravings while developing a drinking habit is "recovery." That's just... different packaging, same problem. I've got a call scheduled with a counselor who specializes in substance use (not just weed specifically) because clearly I need to figure out the root cause here, not just play whack-a-mole with different substances.

Why I'm posting this: If you're early in your quit and you notice yourself replacing weed with something else - whether it's alcohol, excessive caffeine, doom scrolling, whatever - pay attention to that. Your brain is REALLY good at finding new ways to avoid dealing with shit. Quitting weed is huge and you should be proud of that. But make sure you're not just swapping one escape route for another. The goal is to actually learn how to live life without needing to check out constantly, you know?

Anyway. That's my PSA. Stay vigilant out there, friends. Our addict brains are sneaky little bastards.

The reality of "passive" income in 2026 is just depressing tbh

everyone online acts like making passive income is just a matter of "buying a duplex and renting it out" or throwing 100k into an ETF. like okay man, where do I get the initial capital when groceries and rent eat 80% of my paycheck?

it feels like the entire concept of passive income has been completely hijacked by hustle bros and their ai bots. you cant even read a thread about universal basic income without 500 automated accounts spamming dropshipping courses. The dead internet thing is getting so severe that even reddit's ceo was talking about using face id just to verify that users are actually human

handing my face scan over to a major social media corp sounds awful, but the problem of proving "personhood" is actually the biggest hurdle for any real UBI or fair distribution right now. If a network wants to give value back to regular people, it has to figure out how to block out the server farms

It makes sense why some projects are looking into alternative zero-knowledge proofs. the idea of using specialized hardware like an Orb just to mathematically confirm someone is a living human without hoarding their government ID is honestly way more interesting to me than watching another fake real estate webinar.

Im not saying these systems are gonna pay my rent tomorrow. but the contrast is insane. we are stuck dealing with a web full of predatory bots, while the actual tech to fix human verification is just sitting right there. Its just exhausting trying to build a safety net when teh internet feels this broken.

Did I make the right call on lenses?

I recently moved over to the Z system and I’m honestly blown away by the sharpness compared to my old F-mount glass. The edge-to-edge clarity is on another level, but I’m finding myself at a bit of a crossroads now that I’m building out my kit. I went with the 24-70mm f/4 S as a starter because it’s so compact for travel, but I’m already starting to eye some of the faster primes for low-light work and better subject separation. The jump in quality is obvious, but the sheer size of some of the newer S-line lenses has me second-guessing my "lightweight" setup.

Every month, two days before my period starts, I'm fully out. The menstrual migraine is longer than any other I get, doesn't respond as well to my regular medication, and leaves me wiped out for days after.

As I looked up, it happens mostly because of estrogen drop right before menstruation, and it is a direct migraine trigger for a lot of women. It's not random, and it's not in your head; it's a predictable hormonal pattern.

The frustrating part is that when I brought this up to my doctor, the options were basically birth control to stabilize hormones or stronger medication. I didn't want either.
I've been trying a formula that has a specific version made for hormonal migraines. It's a daily supplement, not a painkiller, and the idea is nutritional support that works with your cycle rather than overriding it.

It's been about two months, so it's still early, but last month was genuinely better.

Has anyone else found something that works specifically for menstrual migraines?

I know the history. The Cayenne basically saved the company in the early 2000s and funded everything from the Carrera GT era to the current 911 development. But I still see Cayenne owners get the occasional side-eye in Porsche spaces online. Curious where people actually land on this in 2025 - fully accepted part of the family or still the awkward cousin?

Every time I try to get back into home workouts I end up repeating the same cycle!!!!

I’ll get motivated, buy some basic gear like bands or small equipment, use it for a couple of weeks, then it slowly stops feeling worth it and I give up... After that I usually blame the gear and think maybe I just need better quality stuff so it feels more serious LOL but then I hesitate again because I don’t want to keep wasting money if I still don’t stay consistent yk

I’ve looked at more proper basic setups from Buffalo Sports as well, but I’m starting to realize the real issue might not even be the equipment at all... Any advice on how to get over this? Or like did changing gear actually help you or did something else finally make it work? Mayve it's a dumb question sorry
