IFI GO Link 2 DAC is a hazard and should be removed from the market

A week ago, my unit blasted full-volume white noise into my headphones and rendered my tinnitus significantly worse.

Disclaimer (and long rant incoming) : I've been living with relatively "low intensity" tinnitus for 11 years now. Took around 6 months after I noticed it for the first time to fully accept and make peace with it, but it's been perfectly fine since then.

Whatever the fuck happened with the GO Link 2 made it worse. I know it did because I'm basically back at square one (well, almost) after 11 years: the acceptance phase. I suddenly started noticing this shit again when I get to bed and try to sleep. It's far from being as bothersome and hopeless as the first time, but the feeling is there.

Anyways, back to the topic.

I was listening to music on my Galaxy A56 through Samsung Music, with my Focal Hadenys plugged into the GO Link 2. Nothing unusual, normal listening volume.

I pressed the next track button and, for whatever fucking reason, instead of music I got what sounded like full-volume white noise straight into my headphones. It was LOUD. Like genuinely, absurdly loud. I ripped the headphones off immediately, so we're talking about maybe 2 seconds of exposure at most.

I don't know what exactly caused it and I'm not going to pretend I do. Could be the GO Link itself, its firmware (it is updated to the last one) some fucked up interaction with Android/Samsung Music/USB audio, whatever. What I do know is that this is the only piece of hardware in that chain that has ever done anything remotely like this.

I use the Hadenys basically every day on my PC through a MOTU M2. Never had a single issue with them.

I've also used this exact same A56 with three different pairs of Bluetooth earbuds/headphones, as well as USB-C earphones directly from the phone. Again, never had anything even remotely similar happen.

Again, I'm not talking about a little pop between tracks or some occasional crackling here. It basically dumped a wall of noise into my ears at what sounded like maximum output. The weird part is that the volume slider on the phone didn't even max out. It stayed exactly where it was, which makes me pretty convinced this wasn't Samsung Music randomly deciding to crank the volume to 100%.

After this happened I started looking around online and, to my surprise, found other people reporting very similar shit with iFi GO Link devices. People describing extremely loud static/distorted noise, the output suddenly going to maximum volume, loud noise when playback starts or resumes, and even one person getting a massive noise spike specifically when changing tracks in Tidal and saying it worsened their tinnitus afterwards.

There are reports involving Samsung phones, Pixels and other Android devices. Some people apparently reproduced it with more than one GO Link, while the same headphones/DAC setup behaved normally on PCs or other devices.

So I'm really not the first person to have this thing scare the living shit out of them.

Maybe my unit is defective. Maybe it's some obscure compatibility issue. Maybe it's a firmware problem. I honestly don't care at this point because none of those explanations makes this acceptable.

There should be some kind of failsafe preventing this from ever happening. Period.

I had made peace with my tinnitus but now I'm lying in bed noticing it again because a fucking USB DAC decided to blast noise into my ears for two seconds.

F**k you IFI for selling defective products like this. There is absolutely no way I'm putting headphones connected to this thing anywhere near my ears again.

If you've had anything similar happen with a GO Link 2 (or any other product really), please comment.

Thank you for reading.

Blasphemous 2 Ultimate Torment is insane

Holy shit. What else can I say.

I picked the game back up for the new dlc and decided to do a NG+. Picked this alongside the fervor lose on hit and the guilt penance + respawning enemies and the game is kicking my ass so hard. And I love it.

I'm a die hard metroidvania fan and I always found BL and BL2 NG to be too easy. Didn't have any issue with BL true torment either but this is on a level of its own. BL2 having much harder bosses than BL1 doesn't help either.

I think this now easily tops any other metroidvania I played including Nine Sols, Deaths Gambit and Aeterna Noctis.

I'm curious to hear what's been your experience with ultimate torment. Cheers!

Odyssey G8 G81SF Pixel Refresh

How in the hell does pixel refresh work on this monitor? I have been reading very conflicting things about it and there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer. There is nothing about it in the manual, nor any indication regarding what the red led does. It keeps blinking indefinitely when the monitor is in standby and is fully on when I manually switch off the monitor.

On a sidenote, should I manually switch it off everytime or is standby fine?

Normal HDD operating sound?

Hello!

I purchased a used 1TB HDD from 2017 to exclusively hold my Music and my Pictures/Videos. I've been using SSDs so far.

Crystal Disk Info showed some suspicious data like a 0 hour running time and 6 power ons. I'm aware that used disks on the market can have their SMART reset.

I did a bit of research and ran a short, long and converyence smart tests, in addition to a write + read destructive test from Hard Disk Sentinel. All seem good according to the tests.

  1. Would you recommend running other tests before trusting the drive to hold any data?

  1. Are the sounds on the video normal operating sounds?

The first part of the video is from actually copy pasting the files I want to back up.

The second part of the video is from running the write + read test. The sound is slightly less however there are some very subtle clicks that can be heard, not present during the first part.

Thanks for the help/advice!

P8K protective film

Hello. My father purchased a P8K last month. He's been teliing me how he couldn't manage to remove the protective film. I'm seeing the TV for the first time today and it does indeed look weird. The TV is very reflective and there are visible air bubbles. However there is no latch/plastic to start peeling from. I'm not even sure now that it's the protective film and I'm worried this is somehow the polarizer.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Heavy attacks with focus VS Charged Attacks

Does pressing the heavy attack with focus already built count as a charged attack for the sake of passives from the skill tree? I did a bit of searching and didnt find an answer. Thanks!

I bought a tray version.

Is this thermal paste residue on the first picture? I tried scrubbing it off with 70 degrees alcohol (I don't have 90° isopropyl) but it didnt go off. And what are those metal marks on the side of it? (Second picture)

My boxed 7600 didn't come like this as far as I remember, but I'm not 100% sure as the thought of it being used didn't really cross my mind.

I won't be returning it as it works perfectly well and undervolts pretty damn well. I'm just being curious.

Thanks!
