You ever feel like Right Wing Conservativism ruined Christianity in America?

One thing that I’ve always noticed within Christianity in America is how there’s so much right wingers influence is involved. The same people who just seem to use the church and Jesus as a tool to just oppress the people they personally don’t like or turn the country into an evangelical version of the USSR or insert historical dictatorship here. I can’t tell people I’m Christian anymore without people thinking I’m some homophobic right wing nutjob who supports MAGA or have to explain the behavior of other Christians like Charlie Kirk, Nick Fuentes, MTG, Tucker Carlson etc….

Or the fact that almost every white supremacist hate group seems to be entirely dominated by Christian Nationalists.

Anyone here ever get the same stigma? I’m not even conservative and I’ve never voted Republican in my life. But I’m always lumped in with that crowd because of how rude, loud, disrespectful and annoying they are. You ever feel like this could change for the better in the future?

Is it just me or is there a huge push for LGBT people blindly supporting Communism?

I can understand LGBT people leaning left on many political issues. Mainly due to the conservatives and right wing disdain for anything that isn’t straight. But I don’t understand why there seems to be a growing trend of LGBT people being super pro communism and even going after progressives and liberals who agree with them on most issues? It seems ironic to complain about how homophobic America or some western country is while supporting Communist countries and socialist countries where being gay or having so much as a gay wedding or a pride parade is a crime. If not that they’re supporting Islamic far right countries like Iran or Palestine that make it legal to kill people just for not being heterosexual. Im even starting to see this nonsense in real life.

I can’t go on any subreddit without seeing someone with a trans flag or a rainbow flag with a hammer and sickle next to it telling us how homophobic we are because if we don’t support abolishing property rights or giving the government complete control of the free markets.

I’m not saying all LGBT people are like this. I have many LGBT friends that I love and support. Some being very close to me who helped me when I was about to go homeless.

Concerned with the far right in Americas Christianity

Hello there, I’ve been a Christian convert for a little over 9 months now. I go to a Greek Eastern Orthodox Church. So far I’m grateful for the honor of following and serving Jesus and I’ve made a lot of positive lifestyle choices and made a lot of great friends as a result. But it took a long time to find this little community that I can actually vibe with. Maybe it’s different because most of the congregation are immigrants from Greece and Eastern Europe and people in general are more progressive than in America. But I don’t seem to deal with the extremism here like other churches.

I went to a bunch of churches before coming to my church seeking out God. Every single one of them was a right wing cesspool full of people who seem to hate anything that isn’t conservative to them. Lambasting the LGBT community in their sermons, promoting republicans, complaining about women having careers, immigrant hate, anti semitism, Y’know the works. Some churches weren’t as extreme but it was in their sermons same boat sorta speak. It’s bizarre to see people who claim to follow Jesus act like this. I know we’re not to judge others and I’m not claiming to be a saint either but I don’t go this far on hatred.

It’s seems strange to me that a religion like Christianity whose first and original members were brown middle eastern Jews who pretty much founded the church and wrote the New testament has such a huge white supremacy problem. Not even Jesus was white. Especially in America where almost every white supremacist group seems to have its founders always be white Christian nationalists. I never understood why this is a thing with American Christianity and it seems like this problem is only getting worse. I’m hoping one day this goes away but I doubt it’s gonna go anytime soon. They seem to get more unhinged as time goes on.

Dealing with a Neo Nazi Christian has left me exhausted.

I converted to Christianity about 9-10 months ago give or take. While I’ve met a lot of great people and made new friends. I’ve also met a lot of people who are just crazy and extremely intolerant. Sometimes it drains my batteries (metaphorically speaking) to have to find a Christian who is unironically a Nazi. Honestly it’s like finding a Chicken who supports KFC. How can any self respecting Christian idolize a group like the Nazi’s who murdered fellow Christians left and right, bombed churches, invaded countries that were predominantly Christian, carried out ethnic cleansing, and lead by a guy like Hitler who secretly never liked Jesus and criticized Christianity as a weak religion? I know I’m supposed to pray for these types of people and forgive for being judgemental but this seems like a huge problem. Especially on social media.

Neo-Nazi propaganda in my reels. It was going good for a while until my algorithm betrayed me again.

So for a week after constantly blocking and saying not interested my algorithm finally became Scott free of this far right nonsense. Now all of a sudden I’m seeing this garbage again. Even when it gets good somehow this content rears its ugly head again. I’m thinking of deactivating my account. It’s not worth it anymore. Zuckerberg is never going to fix it.

Anyone keep seeing this right winger crap in their reels? This has been getting out of hand with the right winger stuff.

I don’t know what it is about Christianity on Facebook but a lot of these influencers are just bitter bigoted racists who think they represent Christianity better than anyone with their hatred. I think it’s time for me to deactivate my account. I liked Facebook better when they actually had regulations to prevent this crap from occurring or when if someone did post this stuff they’d get called out on it and not praised.

So was Obi Wan Kenobi based on St Anthony?

Two old men with beards wearing simple clothing living as hermits in caves in the desert trying to achieve spirituality. There are a lot of similarities?

Why is Hell so different in Eastern Orthodoxy compared to Catholicism and Protestantism?

For Protestants and Catholics they seem to view hell as some kind of torture chamber in a volcano where Satan rules like a king and demons just decapitate and torture demons in these grandiose or sometimes cartoonish ways for eternity. In Eastern Orthodoxy hell seems like an almost 180 with the exception of the hellfire stuff. How did the views change so differently?

For a male choosing St Mary of Egypt as my patron saint. What is the male equivalent for Mary be in the EOC?

I hear Marius is the most common but what else could it be?
