Farm / Tractor mechanic Tools question

Hello all and hope you are well, long story short there is a potential that i may have an opportunity to become a tractor mechanic at some point in the future. ( Engineering background but not in this ).

I know i would have to supply my own hand tools for the job, so if possible is there anyone out there that could give me some pointers, ive been told to be expecting to pay £2-3k to start off.

Was looking at the draper mechanics master set as a start off point. But i would like to know from experienced hands.

All the best!

(M 32 ) A career change and picking of brains.

(sorry its a bit long ) Hello all, i hope you are well! I am hoping to pick your brains if at all possible. I am a bit older than some of the posters at 32, currently working as an engineer ( ex merchant navy engineer ) in the wastewater industry quite used to long hours however quite frankly i think the business i am in is not long for this world, i dont particularly like my job and my partner ( an ex farmer ) suggested i could look into farming as a career change as ive always fancied it and he loved it.

So briefly i have always found farming interesting, especially arable, i love equipment and again find it interesting. I actually used to have an old 1948 Ferguson TEF, although I don't think that would do much good nowadays!

Anyway i am looking at doing a Lantra tractor driving course, and advised by my partner to also do the pesticides PA1 and PA2.

Is there anything else course wise that would be good, as i cant do full time as im still working during this.

Also if anyone has arable experience i would love some advice, or if anyone would want a hand on a weekend or would be kind enough to show me the ins and outs id be very grateful around nottingham/Derby/newark/lincoln way.

Thank you all for the time :)

A helping hand from the community, someone whos looking for a new job/career

Good evening all, i hope we are all well on this friday evening.

I will try and not bore you to death with specifics but the long and short of it is i am tired of where i work currently and im not sure what direction i should go in, so i would love some suggestions of maybe things i have not thought of before :)

So quick background. I have worked at an Environmental company for 5 years focusing on sewage treatment plants, pump stations, separators and things along those lines. I am also a Cp for national gas and national grid ( that means i can run teams on substations and what not. ) i currently have a HNC and lvl3 in mechanical engineering which i achieve through my apprenticeship with the merchant navy. Confined space ticket.

I currently love my job but the conditions of work are becoming quickly untenable ( much more responsibility over the years/ more responsibility i.e. management team leader things, new hires on the same or more money, no recognition and absolutely no benefits to talk about, all of management are non engineers and do not understand the work or how to price it (( constantly making a loss ))i currently attain around £36k a year, pension is the legal minimum, payrise has been 2% over three years.

So I'm wondering if you have any suggestions, im just not sure where to look,, I'm not sure if i want to stay in this type of engineering even though this is most of my experience. Would maybe like to move fields into machine operating but no idea where to start on that.

P.s. im in the midlands near Derby ( yes ive kept my eyes open at rolls royce lol )

I appreciate all your time and your thoughts

A Question regarding filters for a Newbie :)

Good Morning Astrophotography reddit. Hopefully it should be an easy question for you all!

Brief context, Dwarf 3 user who is now going a bit deeper into the hobby.

Kit list: Currently have an almost new Cannon 2000D Dslr which i am going to use mated to i think a Askarr FMA180 Pro telescope ( feel free to make other suggestions here ! ) in the future with a star tracker GTI mount. ( Upgrade with an ASI air mini eventually ) (( This is all a wish list atm but saving up for bits ))

Now onto the question Ive been watching alot of Nebula photos and I can't find the video But it's one of the budget ones he uses a SVbony Duel NarroWband filter.

What he doesnt show and what im wondering regarding filters, is how the filter is attached. Is it just a screw type that attaches to the scope and then the camera via an adaptor and is that how most filters attach, or do you have to have a filter holder type thing? I admit this is the bit i have missed whilst planning my newbie kit :)

I appreciate your help! And all the best ❤️

Mega Stack of M101 Pinwheel Galaxy.

Finally Completed over 3 nights worth of sessions in the UK with the Dwarf 3 . M101 Pinwheel Galaxy, taken just over 10hrs of exposures over these 3 clear nights, really pleased how this one came out! Post processed in Stellar Studios, then just a bit of adjustment of the Tonal Curve in Clip Studio Paint.

Darks help, and information from those more experienced

Just wondering if i can have some info guys who are a little more experienced with the dwarf than me in an image of M101

So ran the dwarf 3 yesterday using the default 29oC darks that are for the 30 sec and 60 gain.

As you can see the temps got significantly hotter than that which means the darks were not optimal am i correct.

Im going out again tonight in very similar temps so the Dwarf should heat up to about the same. Would i need to let it run for 30-45 mins or so and then capture the darks at the higher temps?

Im assuming this is why i have got so much noise on this image ( its posted before stellar studio )

Also i was supposed to do M101 again tonight to make a mega stack. If i do the darks tonight, will they apply to last nights stack aswell as tonights stack when i combine them? Thank you kindly for the time ! 🌌❤️

Has anyone used one of these sets before

Just wondering if anyone has used one of these magnetic sets yet. And if i use the light shield and let the telescope run that it wont cause the Dwarf any issues when the scope tries to hide after finishing a session

M101 First stack of hopefully 2 to 3

Well last nights session went very well! In the old UK, Finally got some clear skies for 2 or 3 nights which I'm hoping to get a mega stack done on M101.

Near Nottingham Uk, Bortle 5, 30 sec and 60 gain, 400 images. Edited using Dwarf 3 Steller Studio + Clip Studio Paint.

Started imagining at around 23:00 and ran until 2:30 am hopefully going to get another session again tonight on the same object to combine the image stacks for greater detail, but couldn't resist a quick view and edit early this morning.

Advice for the Whirlpool galaxy on Dwarf 3.

So the Nights looking clear here near Nottingham Uk, i cant photo andromeda as it crests over 30o to late for a work night lol.

However i would like to try my first deep space shot on the whirlpool galaxy. I'm happy to get the system set up in EQ mode. So would you recommend 60s exposure and what sort of gain.

Im a little confused over gain. What should i be looking for when adjusting it :)

First image with my new Dwarf 3

Thought i would test it out on the sun as it was relatively clear in the Uk Midlands today. I think it came out quite well!

Clip studio paint. Dwarf 3 noob question

Hiya all. I am actually awaiting my Dwarf 3 to arrive today so im just a little bit excited!

Question 1 Anywho im just wondering has anyone used Clip studio paint on their photos. Its a paid for program which i have had for a while due to using it for art! Has a photo editing inside it aswell similar if not a little bit more advanced than gimp i would say. If so can i see any of yours examples ❤️

Question 2 once the Dwarf 3 has auto stacked the image and removed the noise. Do you have to go through a seperate program from processing and then onto the photo editor or do you go straight to the photo editor ( editor meaning Gimp. Photoshop. Light room?? (( I think thats one ))

Any way i appriciate the help! And cant wait to see what else comes in this sub ❤️

In the UK, do you think University and degrees are worth it?

Hello all.

Just a Brit here who wants the opinion of other brits.

Now may i preface this question by saying i understand why university is needed for certain roles and of course if you love the subject.

I will also preface and say i never completed uni ( i dropped out after the first year as i could not see the point )

I currently work for an environmental company as a engineer earning a farely decent wage. ( I went the apprenticeship route )

My question is, alot of my friends who have gone to uni. Passing their bacherlors, masters and one even passing their post doctoral earn alot less money than i do.

With all that debt and quite frankly the only person coming close to my earnings is the post doc.

Do yoh feel their is enough incentive or even if its worth it to go to uni. Saddle yourself with so much debt and then earn quite a bit less?

Also i know im tarring a HUGE area with the same brush so i would appriciate your thoughts on this :)

Help. I have no idea whats wrong here.

So i have a Roomba J7 or J7+ its the one without the large docking station.

Currently runs fine when hoovering with no issues.

But when set to mop, he lowers his mop, proceeds to dampen it ( which he doesn't it is dry ). Then just kind of wiggles backwards and forwards like its got no traction on the wheels.

Im really lost here, i have had the rollers, tank and what not off, cleaned the nozzles underneath and im a bit stuck. Any help would be great!

Thanks very much ! :)

I took my R50 to a classic car show!

So I decided to take my R50 to a classic event near where i live in the UK, it was well received honestly, whether that be because of the rare colour or just people not realising they can be 24 years old lol
