New therapist here. 30y/o female. Just started my own practice.
A potential male client reached out via Psychology Today.

On the phone he began somewhat vague but I thought it leaned towards a sexual addiction. He then started getting so aggressively detailed with his encounters. At some point I was like ok, please get to the point (professionally). And he just…finished over the phone. I hung up. The call was 6mins.

I honestly almost cried a bit after I hung up. I’m speaking with my supervisor tomorrow to talk it through.

I feel so used. Gross. Disgusted. Taken advantage of.
Has this happened to anyone else?

It’s been around three years.
I really miss him. I’m really sad right now.

I’ll tell you a bit about him. He was the fun parent, but was scary when angry. He had his own inner demons, but always made my brother and I feel loved. He got us whatever we wanted or needed. He spoiled us.
He liked to cook and he passed this to me. He cooked all our meals. He said it was calming for him. I got into it because of him, and my love language is also cooking. We cooked a really good mushroom/steak pasta together.
The last time I made it, I told him to go relax because I wanted alone time and I wanted to treat him. I could tell he wanted to help. I should have let him. I regret it.
He always supported our passions and would boast about me to others.

His dad didn’t give him the love he needed or deserved and he made sure to turn that around when he had us. And he did.
He made mistakes a dad and I made mistakes as a daughter. We were very alike in many ways.

I’m almost 31 and I still need him god dammit. The world doesn’t feel as safe with him gone.

I miss you dad. I love you. So much.

I wanted to share this. I do believe that our pets go to the other side and we will see them again.

My hedgehog, Mishka was my baby in every way. She literally saved my life when I didn’t want to be here anymore. She gave me a reason to keep going. We slept together, ate together. All through those 5 years, I knew she loved me.

I had to put her to sleep due to a health issue. When she died I was devastated. 5 years, my little baby… of course I had regrets, did I do the right thing? Did I give her a good life?

The day I picked up her ashes, I got in the car and said “Mishka, I hope I did the right thing. I hope you can forgive me”

On this day I didn’t put my Spotify on as I usually do. Not sure why.
On the radio a song was playing and the lyrics were

“ my friend, there is nothing left to forgive”.

The wind went out of me. My girl gave me a clear message. Everything was okay.

Every day since, I give her urn a tap good morning and goodnight. Miss you my little baby….

I am graduating from my master's program soon, with some clients who will stay on with me. I'm super grateful for them.

I do, however, want to start building my own practice, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how they gained clients. I will be applying to some private practices around me :)
