Self-promo Wednesday: The Starved God
My poor debut novel from 2023 hasn't seen much sales action for a while now, having been usurped by my shiny new stuff, so I thought it might tickle the fancy of folks here.
It's probably post-post-apocalyptic really. It's set millions of years in the future; humans have speciated into various new forms, including a cave dwelling variety, a cuckoo-vampire sexually (very) dimorphic form and more. Even the species most resembling us has some adaptations, including the ability to enter a semi-hibernation state called torpor during times of hardship.
Earth now has a planetary ring (you can guess why) which forms the basis of various religions.
The story is about an amateur naturalist who, to avoid being executed for blasphemy, is forced to join a perilous sea voyage of discovery. There's lots of exotic locations and creatures and a cast of colourful characters.
It's an adventure, primarily, with philosophical leanings. Vibe-wise, A Canticle for Leibowitz is the comparison I always think of.
Like I say it was my first novel and it has its flaws, but reviews have always been pretty positive. Check it out if you're so inclined - it's on Audible too.
