Working mums - do you have a cleaner?

Mum of an almost 2.5 year old and 20 weeks pregnant with our second.

Our daughter is an absolute angel but she's still a toddler so the house kinda gets trashed. Between work, looking after her and being pregnant I'm just losing steam on keeping the house clean. My husband contributes of course, but he mostly takes the outside chores (we have a fairly large garden) and he'll do inside things on the weekend. But it's Friday, and our house is just urgh.

Financially we can afford it, but my husband thinks we can just lock in more and get it done. I'm more just over it. I'm tired of solo parenting on the weekend while he scrubs the floor, and he always wants to do activities on the weekend as a family but then I dread coming home to a mountain of laundry I should have done instead.

My family don't live nearby and his aren't the type to help with house stuff (they'll babysit at their house but then that just gives me time to do it myself and I don't want to lol).

Are most working families hiring cleaners? Everyone on Instagram and at work seems to have one 😅😅

2.25 year old suddenly having accidents again

My 2.25 year old girl has been pretty consistent doing wees and most of her poos on the potty for a few months now (poos we have to catch, but wees she will independently say she needs to go).

But the last 3 days she's just had accident after accident. She wears little padded knickers and it's been a complete mess! It's mostly happened when we are out and about and she refuses to go on any of the available toilets till she can't hold any longer.

Not sure what to do? Push through or stay home for a few days? Any tips?!

Screen time tip: turn off auto play

After swearing I'd be no screen time till she was much older, last winters daycares bugs put us in a hole and we started watching Disney movies with my now 2 year old.

We mostly do family movie nights with the classics, but have started watching some short episodes during the day if I need a moment to myself and she's not in an independent play mood.

I was finding it very hard to transition her out of watching if the next episode had already started playing. The 8 minute bananas in pyjamas episode would turn into 2 unless I was right there in the 5 seconds before the next episode started.

If you go into settings on your streaming accounts you can turn off autoplay! It's been a game changer for us.

It's made it much easier to watch one episode and move on with our day. She might protest a bit but the fact it's not already started means she's already processed the fact its finished, rather than her starting to get into it.

Friend crossed my boundaries but now I'm feeling lonely. What should I do?

I met another mom through mom's group after I had my daughter about 2 years ago. I didn't mesh with most of the mom's I met (they were lovely but either our work schedules clashed or we just didn't click beyond the group). This one mom and I grew quite close, texting a lot and doing activities together when we could.

She was always a bit blunt but I don't mind that normally. She started trying for another baby when our babies were 1 and it took her nearly 6 months to conceive. She was getting worried about how long it was taking and I was supportive to her and tried to be as positive for her as she needed, but also listened to her worried.

When our babies were 18 months she fell pregnant. The same month my husband and I started trying for our second and were very lucky to fall pregnant that time (I of course did not share this with her). However, later I had a miscarriage and lost the baby, where as hers progressed along well.

A week after my miscarriage she texted me about how she hates how "fat" she is from this pregnancy already. I sat on it and then decided to lay some boundaries. I was very happy to share in her joy and see scan pics, talk names etc but I just wasn't in the headspace to be the friend she complained to about pregnancy and politely asked if she would share those concerns with another friend. Although I understand how hard pregnancy can be, I found it triggering when women complained to me about their pregnancies when that's all I wanted.

I had to continually remind her of this boundary. At one point she told me I was "Lucky" to have experienced my loss because she was not going to cope with a newborn and her toddler. I re lay my boundaries and she would constantly fight me on them saying I didn't understand because I wasn't pregnant with a toddler.

It took a while for my cycle to return and I was still struggling mentally a few months later. I made the decision to see my doctor to get some tests to see if there was anything I could have control over. It was a hard decision for me to reach out for medical support and I told her about it and said how it made me feel like my body was failing me and how worried I was. Her response to that was telling me the reason she didn't have problems was because she never took the pill, but I did. And there's probably not much I can do about it now.

At this point I was done. I responded telling her there was no basis in fact of that statement and it was frankly cruel. She argued with me saying it's not her fault I can't get pregnant.

I deleted her number and stopped responding to her texts. She reached out on my daughter's birthday and I left it on read. She's since has had her baby which I saw on social media. I feel guilty for not reaching out, but I also don't really want her friendship after what I consider her being so cruel to me, though I do feel bad for not supporting her more in her pregnancy.

I didn't make many mom friends after my daughter so I feel a bit lonely. I have a good circle outside of kids, but they're obviously busy and work a lot and less keen to go to soft play or music class.

I feel like the friendship is not worth saving. But at the same time im feeling a bit lonely now I lost the person to do activities with and talk mom stuff.

In good news, the month I saw the doctor we fell pregnant and are now in the second trimester expecting a baby in a few months :)

Experiences with an earlier wake time to help late bedtimes

My 2 year old is in the process of dropping her daytime nap. It's easy enough to control when she's home with me, but she loves the nap at daycare and it's leading to very late nights (10pm some nights).

We've got into the habit where because she went to bed late, we let her sleep in. I feel like it's kicking the can down the road and leading to later and later bedtimes. Her daycare days are my work days (and consecutive) and it's wrecking me not going to bed till late.

I'm testing this week slowly waking her up earlier and earlier. My husband disagrees because she's just not getting enough sleep now (I.e. fell asleep at 10 last night and then I woke her at 6:20). My eventual aim is to get her to 6am rather than her current 7/730 in the hopes even with a daytime nap she'll be tired enough to fall asleep a bit earlier in the evening.

The theory sounds sound to me, but I'd love to hear your experiences if that worked for you. I accept she'll be a bit tired and grumpy for a few weeks but her only sleeping 8 hours a night is not sustainable long term for us.

Electric blanket for a 2 year old? Yay or nay

We live in a "Queenslander" and it's cold as all at night lately (literally gets down to 12 degrees inside most evenings).

There's not much more we can do insulation wise.

At the moment we are using a reverse cycle aircon most nights in my toddlers room and it's just not cutting it. It makes the air dry and it's running hard all night trying to keep the temp up. Without fail she wakes up every night as soon as the temp dips (she literally yells out saying "mummy im cold") and will fall asleep as soon as she gets into bed with me all snuggled up.

I'm staring to consider an electric blanket under her sheets just to keep her a bit cozier.

She's mostly toilet trained in the day (daycare is our nemesis on that haha) but we wear nappies at night and she's never leaked so I'm not worried about that. My main concern would be overheating.

We used to use a (expensive to run) oil heater in her room but shes in a big girl bed now so I don't feel comfortable with her being able to touch it or put toys near it etc.

Any ideas? We are very cold over here and she's got so many blankets on as it is.

Summoned for jury duty in Queensland but my circumstances have changed. Any luck at this stage?

As the title says, I've just received my summons for jury duty.

When I first got the letter I was able to do it, but my circumstances have changed (both caring responsibilities and my own medical needs)

I'm seeing my doctor on Monday to talk about a medical exemption but I'm not seeing anywhere to report change of circumstances.

Is this just a contact the sheriff situation?

Exclusively breastfeeding at the breast for a second child - is it a pipe dream?

I'm 12 weeks pregnant with my second and finally starting to feel comfortable to dream a little bit ahead and imagine what life will look like (I had a loss after my first, so it's been a very different experience this time round - but that's another story).

I had a fantastic breastfeeding journey with my first. With support from a wonderful lactation consultant I was able to breastfeed at the breast all the way to nearly 2! It worked wonderfully for bub and I, and I just loved the convenience of no bottles or concerns about milk safety.

Now I'm thinking ahead to my second baby, I'd love the same experience (barring any latch issues or unknowns). But I'm already having people make comments about how I'll have to use bottles this time so my toddler can get the attention she needs and so other people will be able to feed the baby. I got this a lot with my first from my in-laws and had to push back about their "bonding" when she was a baby, and I'm feeling this is just that argument redressed.

I pumped a bit when I returned to work with my first when she was 14 months old, but it was mostly for relief and bub wouldn't take the milk anyway - and I can't say I really enjoyed pumping at all. Unless I need to for medical or supply reason, I'd rather go old school and just put baby on boob.

My daughter will be almost 3 when baby is born and dad will have a solid few months off work when baby arrives and his entire plan is to to be on toddler duty. Has anyone had a positive BF at the breast experience with their second? Id love to hear your experiences :)

Brisbane Greenslopes Hospital OBGYN recommendations - limited list

Very excited to be pregnant with baby no. 2

Had a fantastic experience with Greenslopes for baby no. 1 but my wonderful doctor unfortunately has moved back to the public system 💔

I picked another doctor but unfortunately he's on leave. Baby is due early January so most of the doctors will be on leave :(

I've narrowed down to dr Heng Tang or Dr Ishani Jayawardena. Id love to hear any reviews and experiences before making my decision :)

Thank you!

(Also, although I realise the public system is great in our country and lots of people have great experiences, I'm keen to go private again after such a fantastic experience last time. I've also forked out for the waiting period so it's time to cash in on that ha)
