cmv: Gambling should be entirely illegal in the US, except for on Indian reservations*
Here’s my thought process, anything I’m wrong on here?
- Gambling can be extremely addictive and destructive, it is the throwing away of money in exchange for an adrenaline high, it is inherently degenerate
- Degenerate desires are not going anywhere, and will always be sated by legal or illegal means
- It is better to legalize degenerate behavior so as not to create a criminal revenue stream, but to create a legal “friction” for degenerate activities, to dissuade the activity, and the most effective friction (aside from potential danger) is geographic restriction
- Casinos and the associated services are incredibly lucrative and (aside from one extremely notable exception) are basically impossible run into the ground
- A near guaranteed cash flow from outside communities, on a basis that creates jobs and entrepreneurship, aided by a government monopoly, is the most realistic form of reparations our current society could actually achieve for American Indians
* The casinos should be owned by, and its profits distributed to, the recognized tribal governments rather individuals or private groups. There is still the risk of avarice and corruption, but it is more likely that the funds will actually go towards developing the community rather than benefitting a few well connected members and diluted by outside investors, banks, etc.
