I was accepted into IPAP and will be attending next year. Almost 10 years of service. This past week I commissioned. I’ve been so sad about the quagmire my civilian career took that I haven’t taken a moment to just be proud yet.

I volunteered for a deployment. Was accepted and received a command directed fill memo. The following month I received AT orders from my losing unit. The following month I received reassignment orders effective before the date listed on the AT orders.
My losing unit readiness and training NCO are adamant I have to go. My CO asked once and when I mentioned the deployment they dropped it and haven’t heard about it since. My gaining unit seems to be in agreement that my reassignment for this upcoming deployment supersede AT orders.
One last wrench: I was told I was accepted to a multi year military school next august. But was only informed of that verbally. It could conflict with the deployment and let my losing unit and gaining unit know. My gaining unit has mentioned that with this school coming up they will try and rescind my volunteer orders. They have recommended I follow my current orders though; which are to report to my gaining, deploying, unit.
I keep asking both units to talk to each other. I have even emailed and CCd both readiness NCOs with the intent to forward the email to whatever commander on Monday. But this is starting to get frustrating and I wanted to reach out here and see if anyone had any insight on this?
Went for my 6-month cleaning yesterday. Was told I will be needing fillings for teeth 03 and 04 but when I was informed, I was not shown x-rays of before and after by the dentist. It was with a new dentist and not the one I normally see. The only "issues" I have been informed of by my previous dentist was by a filling done while in the military. The dentist who did my last tooth filling (i forget which tooth but its top row left side) accidentally nicked a part of the tooth immediately forward of it.
I hope it's ok if I ask but I wanted a second opinion. I don't normally examine x-rays on teeth so I am not entirely familiar with what a healthy tooth normally looks like and what decay progression may appear as. I was just concerned with how quickly I was told to get fillings and wasn't really offered much information outside of "it looks like it may have progressed i recommend fillings ASAP"
Hi! I was accepted to a master program starting next year. I am currently in a position where I can either return to work and do so until I leave for the program next year or I can take unrelated certificate courses.
One that caught my attention was the master builder program at Kennedy King Community College. I drive so I do not think the commute will be an issue, but I wanted to reach out and see if anyone was familiar with the program or have taken classes at Kennedy King and can offer some insight.
Applied first back in 2024 to 11 civilian programs. Rejected from all 11. No interviews.
Waited a year. Got other certificates and applied through the military instead. Was informed I was accepted into the PA program.

I recently left what I consider to be my dream job working as a paramedic for a large city fire department. The caveat to my employment was that it required residency in the city. My fiance is not from the city. She is from farmland and suburbia and has lived in the city for nearly 5 years. She works in the city as a nurse. I left my job to work at a large suburban department but after two weeks I left due to some heavy mental loads. Not ready to leave my dream job and the commute between work and home was brutal. It gave me a lot of time to think about how much I hated my current situation and was ready to leave it all. My commute would have been five days a week, one hour there in the morning and 1.5 to 2 hours back in the afternoon, for 12 weeks as this department hosted their own fire academy as well.
Right now, I am unemployed. I am looking at other smaller suburban jobs that do not require another academy. During my time off I had volunteered for a deployment with the national guard (4 years active-duty 6 years NG now). I will be mobilizing in 7 months. I did not like where I was. I did not like that I ended up leaving the job that I loved and that transition was more difficult than I had anticipated.
I ended up leaving because my soon to be wife did not want to raise a family in the city. I was raised in the city and lived there most of my life, so to me, living in the city was no big deal. However, when I would discuss staying in the city with my fiance she would ultimately break down into tears about having to continue to live in the city. I thought I was being a good partner by giving that up to try something else.
In addition to her input, my mother, a 30-year veteran of the department, was also encouraging me to try other suburb departments. After my breakdown, my mother apologized to me, saying she did underestimate how much my job with the city meant to me. My fiance apologized to me as well. My frustration though comes that my fiance does not seem to understand what getting on to some of these fire department jobs entails. She originally thought I could just call my previous job back and return to it without having to start their application and academy over again, even after I explained to her this is not the case. She also did not understand that in my current national guard position I could deploy until our first year dating. To further my frustration, whenever I ask her about me returning to active duty, I am met with "I don't like not having a choice in where I live" or she worries about me deploying. I've asked her about me potentially pursuing wildland firefighting but she doesn't like the idea of me being gone for long periods of time. I asked her how she felt about me pursuing any job that involves me being gone for extended periods of time and i've been shut down. I tell her how much I desperately want my previous job with the city back and she becomes somber and teary eyed because she just hates the idea of raising a family in the city. But she apparently hates that more than watching me suffer with having jobs I don't like and the jobs I do like she has something to say about it.
I decided I wanted to make my own choices in what is ultimately my own career and volunteered for a national guard deployment. I told I volunteered for it and she was in tears yet again. Telling me she will leave me if I ever make a choice like that without involving her again. But as far as I can tell, from my end, I've made all these professional compromises to try and accomodate her, to my own detriment, and she is still working working her same nursing job in the city she apparently doesn't want to live in.
Why didn't we move before I took the job in a suburb? Surely a shorter commute would have made it more tolerable. I brought this up as I wanted to leave once our lease was up. We rent a 3 bed/2 bath with her older sister (40F) and my fiance said she did not want to leave her sister with rent they could not afford on their own.
Am I being unreasonable here? I have school options and I have already applied for smaller suburban jobs. But I feel that I have given up a lot for my partner who hasn't been willing to compromise.
tldr; I loved my old job. I want to go back to my old job. old job has a city residency requirement. partner does not want to live in the city but offers no true solutions or compromises.
Recently got back into Godzilla and glad I did. Haven't been to a convention in years and decided G Fest was what I wanted to hop into. My first time as an adult with my own money. Any tips for my first time? Would love to pick up a figure or two and maybe a movie.
Hello everyone. 4 years active duty and 5.5 years national guard. I submitted a packet and will find out next month whether or not I was accepted to the school I submitted for.
I've been having this thought that at the middle of my army career I do not want to do the other 10 enlisted. I maybe would have if the only unit I really enjoyed being a part of wasn't just killed off by the state and everyone was told to find new homes.
Just picked up SSG (no ALC). I have my degree. Was accepted to an MSN program civilian side. I know a guy who at 20 years and a SSG went through flight school and is now projected to do 30 years before he can retire but he went out and got it. I just wanted to reach out and see if anyone else was or has gone through this?
My options are:
Get accepted to IPAP. Commission through the school. Complete 20 years and retire.
Don't get accepted to IPAP. Still have my civilian MSN acceptance. Finish that program. ETS in 2029 right after I complete my degree. Come back to active duty but through the Air Force as a nurse.
OCS is an option I can pursue as well.
