Millennials will be the only generation in modern history to not "kIdS tHeSe DaYs"

Millennials are a different generation. We generally know we had it better. We know that when we were kids the political atmosphere was generally simpler and less stressful. We know that we had an easier time with dating and friendships. And just as we became adults we watched the entire world order that we grew up in begin to collapse around us in real time. Today, everyone is bombarded with constant stresses. We are all forced to carry around little stress rectangles that really just exist to add constant stress to our lives.

I think because of that unique experience we are far more empathetic to younger generations (namely Gen Z'ers) than any other generation. Every other generation before us is convinced they had it harder (despite any and all evidence to the contrary), and so their ability to empathize is stunted by that. But in reality, they generally had opportunities to build a stable life for themselves before the social foundations began breaking apart. Meanwhile, I'm really starting to believe that many Gen Zers are following the same path. They aren't old enough to remember when times really were better, their whole lives have always been in the collapse, so they are falling right back into the generational finger pointing game of every other generation.

Millennials will ultimately remain the most emotionally sympathetic generation in history. The social institutions we grew up with and believed in are shells of what they once were. We get it. We understand your struggle is real, and like a big sister we'll do the emotional lifting for the family as civilization ends.

When Slate brings their real marketing push, they should lean on not having an EULA. (Commercial idea)

I think Slate should really lean into not having an infotainment screen as a feature. What do you think about this ad idea:

A driver is sitting in a non-Slate truck with a dealership sales guy.

The sales guy: "Congrats on your new car. But before you can drive it you have to agree to our terms of service."

Driver: "What do you mean 'Terms of Service'?"

SG: "It's just a standard end user license agreement, basically all cars have them now.

Driver: (scrolling in the screen) "How long is this contract?"

SG: "Don't worry about it. Just standard car stuff, like that you agree that you never actually own the car, just that you are granted a license to drive the vehicle, and that corporate can change anything about the car whenever they want, and that you can't sue the company in court, and that the company can take away and start charging you for features with a software update."

Driver: "Why would on earth I agree to that?"

Narrator: (Video flashes to the driver in a Slate truck) Introducing the Blank Slate. The only truck you really own. Slate. Just drive.

Why do we see blue?

I understand why an animal's mind being able to differentiate between colors would be very useful and why that would be rewarded by evolution.

But why blue? Almost nothing in the natural world is blue. The sky is blue, but being able to see a blue sky is not likely going to meaningfully impact your reproductive chances. Some butterflies are blue. That's about it for blue.

Yet, human eyes have invested in developing a whole dedicated set of cone cells in our eyes specifically to see blue. We clearly thought it was important at the time.

What evolutionary advantage does blue provide that just red and green receptors wouldn't?

What do you call this type of shoe?

This kind of shoe is my favorite kind of shoe to wear for work. 90% of my day is regular office, but I do occasionally need to go out to the field on short notice. I understand nerd-culture enough to know that everything has a name, but anytime I find something like this online they don't call it anything. The ones pictured here is just labeled "Men's Bucksport Shoes, Plain Toe" or "Crazy Horse Leather Casual Shoes". I would like to be able to go to a store and say "I'm specifically looking for [X] kind of shoe". (I don't really like wearing regular-height boots day-to-day.)

Leather, lace-up, and low-rise and a thick Doc Martin's like thick sole. It would be neat to be able to have a good, high quality shoe like this with a hard-toe.

What is the correct "to be" verb for the gender neutral "they"

Masculine: "He is going to Europe in the Fall."

Feminine: "She is also going to Europe."

Plural: "They are going to Europe together."

Neutral: "But Frankie isn't going. They is staying home."

That can't be right, is it?

Unpopular Personal Scouting Opinion: It's okay to "Lose" Older scouts.

I don't understand the constant hand wringing about "losing" older scouts. The goal of scouting is not to make Eagle Scout. The Eagle Scout award should be a rare thing preserved for the few kids that really choose to take ownership of the program and get really involved.

If there is a "rank goal" in scouting for all kids, it should be First Class. When a kid gets to First Class, congrats, they have successfully completed the main scouting program. If they want to then quit the program and pursue other interests, good for them. I wish them the best. If they want to continue having fun with adventures and camping in the Scouting America program, that's great too! I encourage the family to consider Venturing or Sea Scouts. Both are excellent programs for youth that want to grow the skills they learned in TFC.

But for the 10-20% of youth that want to help teach and mentor younger scouts, the First Class to Life ranks are for them. And they really can dig their teeth into the BSA program and help out and mentor younger kids and help them get to First Class. That's a very rewarding experience. And for those that are especially invested into the program, they should be encouraged to complete their Eagle.

But the belief that every kid that enters the BSA Scout program should be expected to get their Eagle Scout for their college resume should end. If that's the kid's (or more likely the kid's parent's) primary goal, then they should consider being involved in NHS instead.

</end unpopular opinion rant>

Why do we think of God as 3 persons and not infinite persons?

Does 3 persons really cover all the persons of God, or is that just "enough for us humans to wrap our minds around as it is"?

Why do we stop at 3? Is the Father, the son, and the Holy Spirit really enough to fully describe God? Does an infinite God not have infinite persons?

Very Short rant: I'm sick of the amnesia trope

Dear fiction writers,

See title. Starting the main character off with amnesia so that they don't remember their own backstory is lazy storytelling. Please stop it.

Thanks. Have a good weekend.

Does citizenship begin at conception?

Let's assume, just the sale of argument, that SCOTUS follows consistent legal theory on this one (yes, I know). My understand is:

  1. All people born in the US are full legal citizens.

  2. SCOTUS has ruled, and it's the current law of the land, that abortion laws are a state issue because Federal Congress has failed to pass actual legislation governing abortion.

  3. Some states have taken that opportunity to define life as beginning at conception.

Could a person conceived in a State where life is defined as beginning at conception be a full legal citizen of America?

The "[Insert Democrat] doesn't deserve my vote so I'm not voting" influencer campaign has begun. Don't fall for it.

And here we are. The first of many "I can't trust them" influencer videos designed to make progressives stay home. These are extraordinarily effective at suppressing the vote.

Please don't fall for it.

What State, it other regulatory entity, has the best looking Professional Engineering Seal

I'm biased because it's my home, but I think Texas' PE seal looks really sharp. Meanwhile, my Oklahoma seal looks boring in comparison.

What State, or other entity that licenses or regulates engineering, has the best looking seal?
