Job + Side business vs Quitting: What's the "sweet spot" to transition safely?

Current situation: Full-time job, decent pay, but I want to start a business.

I'm torn between 2 paths:

  1. Keep the job and build on the side until the business can replace income

  2. Quit now and go all-in to grow faster

For those who've done either:

What worked for you? What do you regret?

Specifically:

- How much savings did you have before quitting?

- How much monthly revenue did your business make before you felt "safe"?

- If you built on the side, how long did it take to replace your salary?

Is there a "sweet spot" or is it just different for everyone?

Trying to avoid both: burning out at 2 jobs, AND going broke by quitting too early.

24, stuck in the procrastination → guilt → doomscroll loop. How did you actually break it?

I'm 24 and I feel like I'm wasting my prime years.

Here's my daily cycle:

· I have clear goals (career, fitness, side projects) but I keep pushing them off.

· I tell myself I'll start "in 5 minutes" — then 5 minutes turns into 3 hours of Twitter, Reddit, and WhatsApp group chats.

· I feel guilty and anxious about wasted time.

· To escape that feeling, I scroll more or jump into group chats with online friends.

· End of day: nothing done, repeat tomorrow.

I've tried:

· Pomodoro — works for 1 day, then I ignore it.

· App blockers — I just disable them.

· "Just start" — feels impossible once the dread kicks in.

I know the theory. I need discipline, not motivation. I know about dopamine detox, environment design, etc. But none of it sticks.

I'm asking for real-life experiences, not textbook advice:

· What was the actual turning point for you?

· What practical step did you take that actually rewired your habit?

· How long did it take before the new routine felt natural?

Be brutally honest — even if it's uncomfortable. I need to hear what worked when you were at rock bottom.
