Choosing the rifle when the options are scarce
I'm about to get my rifle license, until then I've been hunting with the shotgun (if that could be called hunting), and I plan on buying myself a new rifle. The expected area of use would be Central Russia and Belarus, so, the expected kinds of game are moose, boar, red stag and roe deer. I want it to be the classic rifle with walnut stock, open sights and a scope on a pivot mount. I've already decided on the chambering - it would be .30-06, or, in the worst case, .308 (so, no bison shooting in Belarus). Due to obvious reasons, the import prices have mostly went up, so, with my current savings, even if I get to borrow some money from my friends and relatives, I can't afford myself a Sauer or Steyr.
So, I'd like to know your opinion on the options I've picked right now. My current options right now are following:
Factory new Zastava LK M70 with Monte Carlo stock in .30-06. Sounds like the perfect gun for me - new, affordable, classic Mauser action with hinged floorplate, and, as far as I got it, single set trigger. But the mounts for K98 are getting scarce, and this rifle was in the shop for god knows how long - I wonder why nobody bought it and what might be the problem with it, if there is any. On the other hand, I've found myself a new rifle scope that had similar fate - completely forgotten by the customers and mostly forgotten by the shopkeepers. Also, I have to go to another city to try it out.
Factory new Zoli Taiga - push feed, Monte Carlo, Blaser style Spannschieber safety, all that, and the pivot mounts are more common (for some reason). But, it is two times as expensive as Zastava, the detachable magazine means that I may lose it and, as far as I know, Zoli has discontinued their bolt actions entirely - so no more spare parts or magazines. Avalible in either .308 or .30-06, it is in another city too.
Used CZ550 - there's plenty to choose from in almost every place of the country, the prices are varying, the mounts are avalible, but the condition of the rifle is what bothers me. Considering how long they were out of production, they definitely won't be in a mint contition, and I doubt that they'd be in pristine either - a half a year ago a guy has brought a CZ550 to our shop to pawn, it looked decent on the outside, but the insides of the barrel were a complete mess.
Just buy a new Bergara or CZ (either sightless Anniversary version of 557 or sighted 600) in my city and don't bother with this crap. They won't look as classic and they would be more expensive, but they are good and they do their work just fine. The problem is that I don't like the modern look of Bergaras, I want to have open sights which 557 Anniversary Edition does not have, and CZ600 has shorter barrel - alright for .308, but not quite enough for .30-06, as I theorise.
