John Digweed

I’ve followed him for most of my life and am always drawn into his sets. He does some incredible mixing and transitions but sometimes his build ups are on another level, I think he loops small parts mid song and then adds fx to keep building for extended periods before dropping the bass back in. Does anyone know the specifics of how he does it? Are there any resources to learn more about how he transitions and builds up?

Phrasing

It’s been done to death in a hundred different YouTube tutorials but what are your tips for some really clever phrasing and looping? In 75% of my transitions I absolutely nail it but then the other 25% I have some absolute turkeys where things sound terrible. I have been trying a system of skipping back 32beats from the drop and mixing in with mixed results. Any tips on what to practice or where to go for info would be appreciated

Modern techniques

I grew up on mixes that would take you on an incredible journey and tell a story through ebs and flows. Sasha and Digweed, Paul Oakenfold et al. To me modern DJing is just a series of hype and drops one after the other, and journey has been completely lost. I know I’m a dinosaur but is the art of long slow transitions where you can’t even tell anymore where one track finishes and another begins completely lost? Is there a place for it anymore in modern DJing?

New XDJ AZ

I just picked up a brand new XDJ AZ but found out it was manufactured in October 2024. I’ve read so many bad things of the early units and have noticed a couple of weird glitches on my own. Should I return it for a newer manufacture date? Any experience from first release users?

Amouage Outlands

Finally got to try out Amouage Outlands after years of hype. A beautiful fragrance but seriously over hyped. Purpose 50 to me is an infinitely more interesting fragrance, and Decision was more enjoyable than Outlands to me. Not much point to this post but I was pretty deflated after waiting so long to try, and left feeling let down

Cleaning Weber Searwood

Any tips for cleaning smoke residue from inside the Searwood? Not food grease but the pellet dust and smoke that is everywhere. It is possible to use a pressure wash on the inside of the cooking area without destroying the electrics?

Les Paul Custom

I recently purchased a new Les Paul Custom Black Beauty. I can’t put into words how much I love it. No one thing but a sums of all the parts it just makes it impossible to put down. The problem is it has made me want to sell my other guitars including a high end acoustic to just buy another one, maybe alpine white. Is this ridiculous? Does anyone own a couple or more of higher spec Les Paul’s exclusively?

Question about low and slow

I cooked a ham on my searwood at the weekend. I cooked it for 6 hours plus on 230f and let rest for 30mins in foil. The ham was one of the cheap rolled up ones that are really mean to be boiled and sliced, it was the only one I had on the fridge. The flavour was exceptional once done but it was honestly pretty tough, it was bouncy and chewy in the middle. The question is was that any part of the cooking technique or was it just the poor cut of meat?

Inferno

I can’t put my finger on why Inferno is so utterly captivating. I’ve always liked (not loved) BOC but Inferno seems to have pulled me in completely. The production levels are in a different universe and I have a feeling like it’s a soundtrack to some kind of space journey through time and space. Immensely fulfilling and completely has me in its grasp

Weber Searwood XL

New searwood owner trying to navigate my way around pellet cooking. I am planning a decent sized cook soon. I will have 2 sides of smoked salmon, 2 or 3 racks of short ribs, and maybe 2 chickens on the rotisserie. What is the best way to organise cooking times etc and make sure that all the food is cooked and warm at the same time?

Hi, I recently got a new Les Paul Custom, it is hands down the best guitar I’ve ever played. I haven’t experimented too much with ‘dialling in’ a guitar on my Marshall DSL40 CR, set the gain and volume and off I go. But after picking up the Les Paul I have experimented with lots of different EQ / Volume / Gain settings and honestly the results have absolutely blown me away. It just sounds phenomenal. It got me thinking about the possibilities of matching an amp to the Les Paul. The DSL 40CR is a great amp, but how much difference would a higher end amp offer? I don’t have any specific models in mind but maybe a higher end Marshall or Blackstar. Is it a worthy upgrade to consider something more high end?
