it's only day three and I've had to report at least 4 users for breaking the rules.

last year I didn't come accross any attacks/users that had broken the rules, only heard about them.

Two of these users are what you'd expect, they used AI to "make" their attacks and submitted them. these accounts have both been banned thankfully.

the other two are more confusing to me. they're users who generally like artfight but have elected to ignore certain rules that they "disagree with".

the first user made an attack early, and when told it was against the rules and a bannable offence said "I'm still posting it because it's already July for me (australian timezone) and I'm going to wait a few hours after it starts so I don't get banned". the recipient of teh attack is one of their IRL friends, so this user could have just sent the attack via DMs and been fine.

the most recent user made an attack in collaboration with another user (one did sketch/lines, the other did colouring, iirc) and both users involved submitted teh attack on their accounts.
when told by other users this was against the rules and bannable, the user stated "no one does artfight for the points, no one will care"

idk I just feel really frustrated about all of this. like if you want to participate, please follow the rules!

and for these people saying "it's okay to break the rules bc no one cares about points" the points are a huge part of how artfight works!! liek yeah don't focus on them, but they need to be there and as accurate as possible so we know who wins!!

and also, I want to say that if YOU don't care about points and want to attack someone in a way that would break the rules, JUST DON'T SUBMIT IT FOR POINTS!! YOU CAN SEND IMAGES VIA DMS!!!

rant over, I know people break rules, but it's frustrating how many I've come accross in just 3 DAYS.

just a disclaimer - I am NOT saying any of these characters have dissociative disorders, are plural, or anything of the sort! I just thought there were some interesting parallels and wanted to post about it to see if anyone else picked up on this!

So first off, what is "being plural" and what are dissociative disorders? how do they work and how are they different?

plurality or being plural is when someone has multiple people in their brain, instead of being just one person like a regular person. this is commonly confused for dissociative disorders and there is still some debate within the community about whether this is valid or not, but generally people agree that you can be plural without having the dissorders below (non-disordered plurality is what this is called)
dissociative disorders, such as DID or OSDD (dissociative identity disorder, and other specified dissociative disorder) are disorders that are caused by trauma at a young age and can result in plurality. these disorders typically involve having a lot of amnesia and dissociation. they are not "alter/personality" disorders, which is what they are often confused for!
(this type of plurality is reffered to as "disordered plurality")

some terms that may be useful to know:
system - a term for a person who experiences plurality, refering to the collection of people
singlet - someone who does not experience plurality and does not have a dissociative disorder
alter/part/personality - a term for a singular personality within a system (alter being the most common term and the one I'll be using in this post)
switch/switching - the proccess of "switching" from one alter to another.

hopefully the above all made sense! if not, the parallels below might explain better?

so with miraculous here are (some) of the parallels I noticed! (feel free to add stuff YOU noticed in the comments!)

for this section I want to refrain from calling akumatised people "villains" because that happens to be a harmful stereotype about people with dissociative disorders! (example: split)

- firstly how akumatisations work
the akumatised person changes into another person. they get a new name and will often not respond to their civillian name. they will act differently to their civillian self (depending on the person!) and when they get de-akumatised, the civillian self has almost ALWAYS suffered from amnesia. I also want to note that their design often changes and they may look completely different from their civillian self.

- (not a lot) but some akumatised people take on the appearance of other people in that universe OR fictional people in taht universe, such as The Pharoah, Copycat, the Sapotis, and Mister Agreste. for the majority of these akumatisations, the akumatised person takes on the personality and acts as if they are the person/being they are mimicking.
(example; The Pharoah has memories from being the "real" pharoah, the Sapotis behave like the creatures from Creole mythology)

this part specifically reminds me of "introjects", which is when an alter is formed from an existing "source", for example some people will form alters from TV show/movie characters!

- also I want to note that SOME people that get akumatised multiple times will become teh same alter-ego, while some become different alter-egos. and for the people who do become the same alter-ego again, they often remember their previous battles, where their civillian self has forgotten what happened!

This reminded me of how different alters will hold different memories and might not remember other stuff that's happened to them (depending on how much amnesia they experience)

- another thing I noticed was how a lot of the switches between civillian/akumatised states happens when a character is feeling very strong emotions.

in real life, certain alters may have "triggers" that cause a switch to happen. triggers can be "positive" or "negative". an example may be when someone experiences a very strong emotion, this may trigger a specific alter to take over.
(please note that the way this happens in the show is NOT realistic to real life! I'm specifically talking about the relationship of "specific emotion = specific alter/person")

That pretty sums up everything I remember noticing about Akumatised people specifically!
Now, I'd like to talk about the superheros!

now for heros, I noticed less stuff and ofc theres never any amnesia that happens BECAUSE of being a different alter ego! for these heros, I personally believe this resembles non-dissordered plurality - IF ANY!! (I mostly just want to include this bc it's interesting!)

- Chat noir specifically has specifically expressed dislike for his alter-ego, Adrien. he has done this in multiple episodes, and while you could say "he's just doing it to protect his identity", there are times where it feels genuine or he does so while no one else is around.

- there are also some personality differences between some of the superhero characters and their civillian selves. this is less noticable than when someone has been akumatised, but there are still some smaller differences.

for some characters these differences are bigger than others. I would like to point out the conversation of "which version of Adrien/Chat noir is the REAL one" to which I say they're both real, even if you believe they are different people, they are still both real.

Chat Noir/Adrien probably has the biggest/most obvious personality differences between his personas. Marinette I believe also has some differences, especially in the earlier seasons. (higher confidence level, different speech patterns, has a different voice even) but it's not really enoigh to say that they are different people!

again this is more subtle and I personally would say the only one of these people if any, to have different enough personalities would be chat noir/adrien.

I do also want to point out a subplot that I think is interesting!

- in two episodes we are introduced to the idea of different states of mind being able to affect how the character's superhero forms look.

In one episode, Plagg intentionally informs Adrien of this, so he can pretend to be a new hero and continue to be the holder of the cat miraculous. it takes a lot of time, but eventually the two are able to create the persona "Catwalker".

this episode isn't very realistic in the way that someone cannot intentionally "create" a new alter, but it is possible to learn you have a new alter and let them "take control". (the more commonly used term for this would be "fronting")

the other episode I'd liek to mention is "Grendaiper" from season 6. in this episode Zoe learns about this miraculous feature by accident. she is extremely angry after seeing terrible people get away with bad stuff and at teh end of teh day her anger manifests into the alter-ego "Fury".

essentially what happened was Zoe's anger caused her suit to appear different, and in a different scene when we hear her talk, she has a different voice.

this is sort of what can happen to someone with plurality. there can be alters in a system that tend to front when you feel certain emotions strongly, and there are some alters (especially when teh system has a dissociative disorder / is a disordered system), that are specifically formed/designed to hold certain emotions/memories tied to those emotions. these alters are sometimes referred to as "anger holders" or whatever the emotion they're supposed to deal with is called.

I have a headcanon/theory that Gregory has ARFID. For those who do not know, ARFID is an eating disorder where you have a very restricted diet, which can involve having anxiety about trying new/different foods.
ARFID stands for "Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder.

I myself have ARFID, which is why I think this. for some evidence, I would like to talk about some things I noticed. (all off the top of my head, there could be more)

- Gregory says himself that he only eats a small variety of foods.
- He does not like multiple flavours or different textures touching.
- He will eat on his own/away from others to avoid people making fun of his eating habits.
- he has a strong aversion to trying new foods.

now some of you might ask "why does this matter?" and for that I'd like to talk about my own experience as someone who has ARFID. Firstly, eating disorders are rarely talked about, and if they are, it's usually Anorexia or Bulimia. I have never seen a character who is confirmed to have ARFID ever.

Because ARFID is never talked about, people assume you're just a "picky eater". this is not true. not every picky eater has arfid, picky eaters are just people with preferences, they will still eat stuff they do not like and it will not affect them much.

with ARFID, you get (sometimes extreme) anxiety at the thought of trying something new, you feel like you physically can't eat certain stuff and (in some cases) will throw up if you're forced to eat. you can also develop phobias of certain foods if the situation is bad enough.

obviously the latter hasn't happened to Gregory, but I do think it's neccesary to bring up because of how little people know about ARFID.

I just got really excited when I saw Gregory and his eating habits, because I never see stuff like this in media, especially taken seriously/not made fun of like this!

I was wondering about this the other day, and was wondering what the reasons y'all have for following people on artfight!

I've seen some people who follow a lot of people and others who only follow a small number.
I've heard that some people only follow people they want to attack, and others follow people for a variety of reasons!

What makes you want to follow people?
