Anyone else annoyed by their students' AP exam results?

I teach an AP class that is mostly seniors. This past year, I had 10 kids. All are bright, capable kids and the highest grade in the class was a 101. The lowest was an 82. We studied a lot and the kids were all proficient in the material. I knew they were done & over school by exam time, but still, I told them all I believed they could all do well (and I did & do believe that).

So imagine my surprise checking the college board website today and 6/10 kids got a 2. My most serious and dedicated kid got a 5. One student who isn't as serious but generally tries under pressure got 4. And my 2 weakest students got a 3. I'm proud of them! Those were kids I did think could be on the cusp of a 2, but they worked hard and made it happen to get a 3.

But the 6 that got a 2 were all capable of better. One or two of them were maybe just having a bad day. But all 6? They clearly were phoning it in. I get it, they're seniors, it was an early morning exam, and that's how seniors are, but it still annoys me because I know they were capable of better. And it's always frustrating when kids are capable of better and choose not to try. Also it makes me look incompetent to admin, so that doesn't help lol.

Entitled Tiktok mom says teachers are "service providers" for parents and that it's okay to request summer IEP meetings

I have been seeing a lot of videos about this tiktok mom: https://www.tiktok.com/@thatasdmom/video/7655322591896374559 who runs some kind of IEP "advocate" business and made this entitled video about how it's totally okay to request IEP meetings in the summer because teachers are service providers like grocery store cashiers.

Parents like this make the WORST kids too.

Dent in my 32 oz freesip has almost disappeared?

I have 32 oz freesip in Read My Lips. About 4 months ago, I knocked it off a table and it dented near the top like the one in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Owala/comments/1gju31s/dented_my_owala/

However, I recently noticed that the dent is almost gone? I can still feel a flat bit on the bottle but it's basically invisible unless you're really looking for it. I cannot capture it in a photograph. And the original dent was pretty deep and obvious, like in the picture in the linked post!

I didn't do anything on purpose to fix it. It kind of seems like the Owala self-healed lol.

Could it be that I wash with hot water and somehow that made the metal expand? Could it be the glossier finish of the Read My Lips bottle somehow? Has anyone else experienced this?

Hallway painting is such a mess

They are painting my apartment complex's hallways this summer (the whole process apparently will take 3 months) and they are on my building now. The mess is UNREAL. The whole hallway is dusty and white. It's impossible to get in and out without tracking it into your unit and it's been making me cough and given me a sore throat. We have valet trash and the dust gets all over the valet trash bin, which is a pain to clean when you bring it back inside. The painters are leaving crap everywhere--roller trays in the middle of the hallway, trash in the corners, random tarps you have to step on to get out strewn across doorways...

I guess it's nice they're refurbishing the hallways but is there truly no better and cleaner way to go about it?

What are people using these 64 oz behemoths for?

64 oz seems obscene for a water bottle. That's the capacity of a pitcher. It's BIGGER than my cold brew pitcher from IKEA (57 oz). It's too heavy to carry, even in a backpack (and won't fit in most backpack side pockets or most normal cupholders)...so what are people using it for that they can't achieve with a 40 oz? Is it just for your desk? Are you planning to drink out of the spout or pour it into a smaller glass at your desk? Are you using it for car camping? It also only comes in a few mostly basic colors and to me the fun of owala is the cool color combinations.

I'm so curious and want to hear what people have to say.

Should I rebook my Thursday evening flight out of Atlanta?

I am flying on a 3 hour flight out of ATL tomorrow around 8 pm. I just got the alert about the potential for weather cancellation/delays. I cannot fly earlier, only later. I know that as a later evening flight out of a major hub, my flight is really likely to be delayed. Should I proactively rebook for early Friday morning? This would seriously impact my trip (I am supposed to be doing stuff early Friday morning) but I fly back to ATL from my vacation destination on Sunday morning so if I can't get there by Friday evening I might just cancel the trip entirely.

Should I (late 20s F) go on this trip?

I am in my late 20s and I have a trip planned for this weekend (Thursday-Sunday). I am flying about 3 hours to a city in another state to meet up with 5 friends from college. Friend is a strong word--I haven't seen 3 of these women since we graduated (5+ years ago) and 1 of them since freshman year (she transferred). The 5th woman I see about 1-2 times a year and we chat on the phone maybe 4-5 times a year. I have the most contact with her. I would say I exchange texts with the 3 who graduated with me like 20 times a year and I personally haven't spoken to the one who transferred in a long time. One of the 3 girls who I have lower contact with suddenly made a groupchat in January and was like "hey ladies I added "Transfer Girl" back to the chat, let's do a trip this summer!" and we planned this trip.

I'm trying to be more open and chill, and I really haven't seen or spent time with these friends in a while, so I think it could be fun. But as the trip approaches, I find myself dreading it, and wondering if I should lie about being sick to avoid coming. I made a list of my reasons for going or not going:

Reasons I should go:

  • I already paid for the airbnb and rental car, so I would be out $200 no matter what.
  • I haven't seen these people in a while and it would be nice to catch up.
  • If I don't go I will have FOMO.
  • The place we're going seems neat and I have never been there before.
  • I'm trying to be more flexible and fun.
  • I bought a hiking outfit for this trip.
  • I told so many people about this trip and it will be embarrassing to explain if I don't go.

Reasons not to go

  • The flight was $$$ and I could use that money back. I'm actually a little low on funds and have significantly less discretionary income than everyone else going on the trip, so I'm a little worried about this.
  • I will miss my cat like crazy and get so sad being away from her.
  • There are apparently only 2 beds and 1 futon in the common area in the airbnb and the 1 person who doesn't share will be on the futon. I have sleep issues and hate sharing a bed so this seems like a nightmare sleeping setup. I didn't pick the airbnb and didn't realize this until today.
  • I hate flying and I hate the airport. It's Juneteenth weekend and my city is a world cup host city with bad traffic, so it's gonna be crowded.
  • I have horrible bedbug anxiety and cannot relax in airbnbs or hotels. When I come home I have to do my whole protocol and it's a hassle.
  • I don't even know these people anymore--we barely talk these days. And I'm not sure if I would actually enjoy spending 3 days nonstop with them. There are some belief/personality concerns that make me worry it would be awkward.
  • I have gained a lot of weight since college and I am in significantly worse shape than I was when 4/5 of them last saw me. This is embarrassing, but also difficult because they're excited to hike and I will 1000% be slower than the rest of them.

So, should I go?

Garage smells like chemicals (nail polish remover, paint thinner-y smell)

My parents' garage just started to smell like chemicals today. I left home around 2 pm, it was fine. I cam home around 9:30, it reeks. It's a kind of nail polish remover, paint thinner-y smell. It could be gasoline. It just smells chemically. They claim they can only smell it a little but I think it's a very strong smell. There was a poorly sealed gasoline can that they placed outside around 10, but 2 hours later I still think it smells just as bad. The garage contains a car, 2 freezers, plenty of paint cans and other chemicals, a pantry with extra snacks, and a whole lot of junk and furniture, so there are many potential culprits.

My dad refused to leave the garage door open to ventilate. It is attached to the house by an interior door, and the basement to which it is attached smells fine. I can't call the fire department to investigate because my dad will get angry at me.

Could it have been the gas can? Could it be something worse? I'm too anxious to sleep in fear that it's an electrical fire.

ETA: I went down and poked around and the smell is concentrated towards the back near one of the freezers and some shelves. On the shelves there is box that has a visible can of rustoleum primer. it doesn't look rusted or broken, and I didn't see any leaks. But the freezer is 30 years old so it may well be freon. It still seems cold inside the freezer. It doesn't smell in the house in the rooms directly behind the garage. There is also an alert on their thermostat saying the filter needs to be cleaned that's been present for like 9 months, but the AC is working fine.

Why does Google (and only Google) seem to think I am in a different state?

I am currently in Florida, but for some reason Google on my laptop thinks I am in Omaha, Nebraska. I am not using a VPN. My IP address is not mixed up--if I search what is my IP, all those sites have me in the right location in Florida. If I search using Yahoo, DuckDuckGo, then I am in Florida. If I use Google my phone, I'm in Florida.

But when I search "local weather" on my desktop, it gives me Omaha weather. If I try to use a destini product locator that uses Google, it gives me Omaha locations.

What on earth is this? How do I solve it? I searched to troubleshoot but all the answers had it being an issue with my wifi/IP address, but Google on my phone is on the same wifi/same IP and is fine, and non-Google search engines also have me in the right location.

Sorry if this isn't the right sub!
