Just got a car loan and haven't been churning cards, will I get declined?

Hi all,

Wanting to apply for a Qantas AMEX Ultimate with the new offer that just went live today as I want to start churning credit cards. But I recently got a car loan within the last month, this is probably my only credit check since I got my mortgage last year.

I currently have only 1 QFF credit card that I have had for 3+ yrs now that I use as my normal credit card and have no history of churning.

Income is plenty as a household, more than enough to service the mortgage, expenses, credit cards and car loan, but just wondering if AMEX will look unfavourably on this recent enquiry for the car loan?

Thanks!

Where to buy second hand Arc'teryx (or other snow/back country gear)?

Hii all,

Planning to head to Sapporo in January next year for a few days (after spending a week snowboarding at Honshu resorts), and just wondering if there are any places that sell second hand arc'teryx jackets?

I know a few of the main places (2nd street, Bookoff, etc) have snow/backcountry gear during the winter, but just wondering if any definitely/most likely to sell Arc'teryx jackets.

Thanks!

Sapporo Ski Trip, is it best to stay in town with a car and just drive each day?

Hi all,

Heading to Japan next January with family, going to Yuzawa for about a week of snowboarding, but planning to go to Hokkaido after this for about 4 days/5 nights (all the time I have before needing to return to work). We're coming from Australia and will be bringing all our own gear.

As I probably would only be keen to do 2 or so days of snowboarding while there (after spending a week on the mountain at Yuzawa), I was thinking of staying in Sapporo, hiring a car (as I will be with my wife + my sibling) and just driving to Bankei or Tiene for a day trip, then spend the other 2 days exploring around the city/relaxing instead.

Is this the best way to do this? Prices for Niseko seem insane and would assume it would be super busy since it's peak time. Keen to do this trip on a bit of a budget, but not absolute bottom dollar, as I'd rather hire a car for convenience (since I have winter/snow driving experience) and want good accomodation.

Any suggestions or tips for a trip like this? Would definitely hire a 4WD with space for our gear. Any suggestions on accomodation on where to stay as well? Would love a place with a dry room so we can store our gear, or is it fine to just keep it in the hotel room?

Thanks!

Buller this Sunday, am I being too optimistic?

Hi all,

Keen to get back on my board and a shame there hasn't been much snow as I was keen to go this weekend. Have a proper couple day trip booked later this year for Falls (In early August) but was hoping to do a day trip to Buller before then.

Can see on Buller's forecast they're expecting ~10cm of snow across Friday and Saturday, reckon that along with the current manmade run + snow making these two days would be enough for them to have all of Bourke St open rather than just the thin slither they have now? Other forecasts saying 15+ cm (snowsbest and mountainwatch), so maybe will be more than expected.

If the run was wider I may actually just go as it's the last day before the lift prices increase, but honestly don't know if I'm just being optimistic and not worth the time/effort.

Thanks,

Jacket to go with brown wide pants?

Hi all,

Have fallen into the hype of the barrel leg pants from Uniqlo and have a white and brown pair. White is easy to dress, but with the weather getting colder I'm looking for a jacket to pair with my brown ones.

Anyone have any recommendations on colour or style to pair with it? Was thinking about something that was cream/camel or very light beige to go with it? I don't really want a blue jacket but see online it pairs with the brown. Would likely just wear a white/black/beige t-shirt under the jacket as well.

Was thinking of something like this maybe: https://www.theiconic.com.au/cord-trucker-jacket-2894047.html

Thanks!

Land CruiserPrado Wait Times in 2026?

Hi all,

Anyone know what the current wait times are for Land Cruiser Prados in 2026 or anyone here recently taken delivery of one? We placed our order in early December with a quoted wait time of 5-6 months..... 6 months later and we haven't even had our order confirmed by the factory yet. What a joke.

Communication from Toyota dealer has been shit as well, never providing proactive updates and only really responding when asked about an update with a "sorry not this month, better luck next month" email.

Pretty shit experience when buying a $100k+ car, very close to cancelling my order... going to call the dealer tomorrow to see what's up.

Wanting to hold out until better Qantas rewards, would getting a different card now get me auto rejected in 2-3 months for an Amex?

Hi all,

Starting to churn cards and I wanted to start off with Amex, since I know they are quick to decline once you started churning, so was planning to start with them and would keep my AMEX as well.

However, looks like I am a couple weeks late and the 70k bonus for Qantas is now 50k and not really worth it. I currently have a NAB Qantas card that I've had for a couple years now, so I dont have a history of churning.

But I was wondering if I got a Westpac qantas card now and then the AMEX and of July when the bonus changes and is hopefully higher, would I likely have issues getting approved then if I just got another card?

I am also likely getting a small car loan in the coming months, so I don't know if that would impact me since that would also incur another credit check. Just unsure if I should wait and not get another card or that it should be fine.

Any help is appreciated!

Is AMEX still worth it to get with only $50k bonus points?

Hi all,

Just went to apply for the AMEX Qantas rewards card and just saw they've dropped the bonus offer from 70k to 50k,

I'm just about to start churning (while we still can before the bonuses get reduced/removed), so wanted to tick off the AMEX first before I get auto declined for too many credit cards, but is it even worth it for the lower bonus amount?

Alternatively I was going to get the Westpac Qantas Card (as I have already had a NAB Qantas card for the last 2 yrs). If I got the Westpac card now, do you think I'd get auto declined by AMEX in the future when the reward points offer is increased?

I was planning to keep the AMEX long term for the high points rate and lounge access, so maybe it is still worth it just to get the churn out of the way and getting onto the higher amount cards (like the Westpac offer)?

Thanks!

Edit: I meant 50k points, not $50k in the title

Hi all,

About to sign up for the AMEX qantas ultimate card and just double checking theres no extra reward points offer via promo/referrals for this card. The offer showing to me on the AMEX site is currently 70k for sign up and 30k after a year.

Thanks!
