Can this type of detailed engravement be done with Xtool F2 (Non-Ulta)

Hi, I need help understanding if i can engrave 0.8mm metal cards with the 5Watt IR or 15Watt Blue laser on these types of rainbow mirror double side treated cards for trading card games (example photo added)

And if so, does it work best with the blue or IR laser, this type of engraving?

Thank you very much for your help

Material settings list for f2?

I've seen 2 videos where people refer to a excel or pdf with suggested optimal settings per material used for the laser machines. I see a list on the xtool website for the f2, but I can't find a list for the fw (non-ultra).

Anybody has a good source I can use for the starting settings of my projects?

Thanks a lot in advance!

How can I make the engraved lines darker on this brushed gold metal card?

This is a 0.5mm metal card stainless steel with brushed gold coating.

When I engrave it comes out like this. I cant engrave with more power because it damages the coating.

Is there a treatment / method / trick to get the engraved lines to become more dark? Perhaps apply some kind of surface treatment?

Thank you very much in advance (Just started my laser journey)

XTool f2 (Not Ultra) Color Engraving

Hi,

I bought the Silver Stainless Steel Military Pendant Necklace (6pcs) from the xtool.eu website, to be sure I have the right material.

Next: I went to this example project to do a test: https://www.atomm.com/project/105474-hibou-en-couleurs-sur-pendentif-acier-inox-304?utm_source=xtool&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=shopify_machine

From there I open directly the project in XTool Studio.

I follow the instructions om the page (first run the colors, then the "Black Owl" group) by enabling first the color output and in the 2nd run disable the color output and enable the black output.

I adjusted the height to the pendant manually before doing this.

For some reason, I dont get any color, just black/grey/yellowish.. What am I dont wrong? How do I get the colors as given in the examle image in the atomm.com page?

Not proxies but custom deckbox

I just wanted to share these with the community. After learning here how to make proxies I also started making customized deck boxes with a laser machine. (XTool f2).

Let me know what you think!

First attempt emboss engraving coin with F2 (Non-ultra)

After watching this video https://youtu.be/b78Vij7HBvU?si=NHtNJAU8ngxfz8Nb I wanted to try and emboss engrave with my new F2.

I used chatgpt for a design, imported it directly into XTool Studio and used the AI tools there to convert the image to a emboss ready file.

Since its a process of 8 hours I would like to ask here, is it normal for the coin to be black after 1 hour of processing?

Printing backs & foil

I was finally able to get the back printed. Using proxxied.com and playing with the offset setting for the back pages eventually got me the right setting for my printer (HP Officejet Inkjet dw477).

Switching paper from Glossy to Matte is required, because I print the front page and back page separately. The glossy paper gets too much scratches on the second print run when Im printing the other side.

My process for this particular foil:

Download card image from scryfall.

Optimize image using the Upscayl app.

Upload image to proxxied.com

proxxied.com settings:

- bleed 1.5mm

- card spacing2x2mm

-Seperate back offset 1x0.5

-Guide width 1mm, corners solid light grey

- Darken pixels contrast edges auto-detect

-sort by color

-pdf export 1200 DPI

Export to pdf duplex printing

Printing settings:

Matte 180 Brochure paper

Max quality

Vivid colors

100% fixed size

Print first the back! 2nd time the front (backside is sometimes acceptable if it has tiny marks..)

Apply thin clear foil sticker from Ali on top of paper

Laminate with 50 micron laminate from Ali Express

Cars thickness without foil on my caliper is 0.32mm

Card thickness with foil layer is 0.39mm

Original is 0.32mm on my caliper aswell.

Now I'm off to the store to buy acrylic spray to see if I can improve the texture and remove the foil gloss like this guys : https://youtu.be/QIslyMFwwCk?si=SXOm7UUDRhqD992C

Let's all keep sharing as much info as possible so we can make the best proxies and develop the simplest method 😎

I want to make products for Magic the Gathering players ❤️

Easy scratches KOALA double side 180gsm glossy

Hi,

Im getting good results with KOALA 180gsm Double Sided Glossy and 50 micron laminate. My issue is the prints get light scratches very easy (before laminating). Something I have to print the same page 3 times for scratch less result, and for sure forget about priting the backside by running the page through the inkjetn printer again without ruining the front.

I dont think its a matter of waiting for the ink to dry, this paper with ink is just very sensitive to scratches.

Any other paper you guys would recommend thats scratch free but still has good vidid sharp prints?

Ordered the F2 (standard), now the the search starts for materials

Hi There!

Planning to have a lot of fun with this machine and my daughter. She's very creative, I want to use that and help her setup her first small business.

I'm very excited about this machine and all it can do.

Now the first follow up, while we wait for the machine to arrive, is to source some good materials.

We are looking to make specifically accessories for the trading card gaming communities. So custom cards that can be colored engraved, dice, little square plates for stuff like tokens, coins, etc.

Any good source (besides the random offers on amazon with different products and materials) in the EU where I can start finding good materials for the F2 ?

Where you do source the materials that are most compatible with this machine. in the EU?

Laser engraving proxies (cards) Magic: The Gathering

Hi,

Im thinking of getting a laser engraving machine (xtool f2) to make custom metal or wood proxies and other mtg accessories / tokens etc.

Anyone here has experience in the lasering of these types of products they are willing to share? Would the xtool f2 be too much maybe for just mtg stuff?

Guess which ones are proxies

Yesterday I received the 50micron laminate pouches from Ali Express. I applied them with 180gsm Koala double glossy paper. Very happy with the result, once sleeves I am not noticing a difference.

Im still waiting for 60micron matte laminate to test which I found on Amazon, and next week my die cutter arrives for a better consistent cut per card, but all in all very happy with the results.

I have mixed these cards in a commander deck with 50/50 real/proxied cards and I'm not able to notice the difference, which is exactly what I was trying to achieve.

Varnish on matte proxies?

I've been testing quite a bit and so far the best feel of the card has been 180gsm glossy cards with 80 micron matte laminate.

The downside of matte laminate is the colors are more grayish. Glosse laminate really pops the colors our but I dont the plastic shine of glossy laminate, snd it feels too different.

Would treating my cards with matte foil with a varnish help? And what does varnish do to the thickness or flimsyness of the card, do I need thinner paper?
