When your boots arrive in a box that's too small...

They folded them in half. Then compressed them with stuffing. For 4 shipping days. It's not like they're vintage Lucchese alligators (L6309, #2 Toe/#4Heel, can't tell if '93 or '98) or anything. Thanks for the creases amigo!

Spent my lunch hour brushing them off, wiping them down and applied Bick 4 to the shaft and Bick Exotic on the vamp. I left them lightly stuffed with paper bags until I got home then buffed them & wore them around the house for about an hour. Looks like they rebounded some. Going to Al's Handmade Boots this weekend for a full restoration.

Quinceañera Outfit

Wife and I are the Padrinos. I'll preface this by saying I am not a cowboy, I'm just a classic menswear nerd that happens to be from Texas. This outfit is mostly set, I already own or already purchased the few items I didn't already have.

The Core:

  • Plum/navy (textured open weave) soft shouldered jacket
  • White western oxford
  • Black 20X felt
  • Silver ranger buckle set

I just need to decide if I'm going with the shadow black 13MWZ/black ranger belt/black Luccheses or the black chocolate 13MWZ/mahogany ranger belt/black cherry Luccheses.

Obviously black is the more formal option but the brown/black cherry/purply-navy play really well together IRL. What do you guys think?

Mahogany Lucchese Seville (L6620), date code: 7L430

Vintage boot with brand new toe damage. I swear that concrete step came out of nowhere!

Settle an argument: Are these a dress boot? Or does the ranch/work boot trend just make this seem like a dress boot in comparison?

New [to me] Boot Day!

SATX Lucchese stamped 1378 9D, Date code: 3L914

These came with heel taps already installed, barely worn soles and no discernable indentation in the footbed. I guess I'll have to make one, poor me. These might be the most comfortable pair of vintage Luccheses I have.

I just wiped them with a damp cloth, applied Bick 4, gave 'em a good brushing and vacuumed the interior. Then my grandson stepped all over them with his Spiderman sneakers... I'll hit 'em with another round of conditioner in a couple of days and polish up the knicks/scuffs.

Someone donated these

My son picked these up at a thrift auction for about $200. L1510.63 black goat from '01. They're as new as they look, just dusty. I guess he can knock the dress boots off the list.

Black Cherry is underrated

Felt season is coming. Got wifey a 10x Open Crown Rodeo King and a new band for her birthday. Criminally underrated color. The Hat Store here in HTX did the shaping, always a pleasure visiting those guys.

Chopped the brim

Picked up this $200 Black Gold from a fella 10 years my junior wearing a starched brush popper and J toes. I love that the retro stuff is coming back! 4 1/4 is too damn big on me so wife and I drove down to The Hat Store and had them cut it down to 3 3/4, narrowed it up front with a gentle lift but left it pretty broad/flat in the back. I think it came out nice. While I was as the shaping bar wife ran off with a salesman so now I have to buy her a black cherry lid...

I think I might want to soften the dents a bit but not sure if I should attempt it with a factory blocked crown.

Just got these back from Al's Handmade Boots after getting new heel caps and stabilizing a few cracks. Unfortunately, these fit closer to a 9.5 than my usual 9D and I'm on the fence about keeping them. 😞

Added the dryyyyyyy eBay photo for comparison.

Have you ever actually been sized for boots?

Was talking to a buddy last week about how a boot I bought in my normal size fit a tad wide then got to talking about sizing found out that he had never stood on a Brannock device. He just always tried shoes/boots on and bought what he thought felt best in the store 11D/11M. He texted me yesterday to tell me that he got measured and he's actually a B width (he's 43).

How many of y'all are stuffing your feet into the wrong size boot?

How reversible is this?

They don't look like they were worn enough to be resoled. I guess someone just didn't like the feel of leather underfoot...

I'm trying to figure out if these can be restored without a full resole. There's supposed to be a lemonwood pegged sole & 1.5" walking heel on these (last photo is what they're supposed to look like).

Non-square toes are "feminine"?

I brought home a pair of 6 toe vintage Lucchese Sevilles and my son told me that they remind him of "girl boots". Then I bullied him for wearing bedazzled Rock & Revival jeans.

When did this happen? Or did I just fail my son? Because the most masculine men in my life have *never* pulled on a pair of square toes. My grandpa might have beat him with a switch... Maybe I should have. I still might.

Here's 7x Mr. Olympia and the Terminator & a stack of "girl boots" for attention.

Edit: The battle rages on... This post was supposed to be light hearted fun. Don't be a jerk.

Are these too far gone?

Scroll through the pics. 😬

I've had amazingly good luck bringing vintage calf & goat Luccheses back to life. I ran across this pretty unique pair of elephants on eBay. I've never had an elephant boot before and there were no gouges or significant scuffing so I shot my shot and my lowball offer was accepted!

I got them home, brushed them, gave a coat of Bick 4 put in some trees and set them in the closet until the next conditioning session was due the following day (today). I just pulled them out for a second coat to find these cracks.

Is this something that could be repairable? Elephant is tough, so could I still wear these? I knew they needed new toplifts but I don't want to throw money at a structurally compromised boot that's on the verge of blowing out.

TLDR: Elephant hides cracks waaaaaaaay better than calf or goat skin.

Vintage SATX Lucchese Elephant

3rd pair in May... I should probably chill out. lol

I was drinking bourbon browsing eBay last night & saw these French toe elephants listed. So I sent an offer and went to bed. Woke up to an accepted offer and tracking number. I probably should have looked at the lining a bit better... did I do too bad?

They're stamped:

Help me out with Dress Western

To start, I'm a native Texan and occasionally wear boots but I don't really dress Western even though I have a few Western items. My niece is having her quinceañera in a couple of months and the theme is dress Western. Looking for a gut check so I don't look too goofy lol.

I've got:

Black cherry French toe Luccheses with matching belt.

Wrangler 13MWZ

Plum sportcoat with light blue stripes

Is a regular dress shirt fine or do I need to find a nice pearl snap or Western dress shirt? And if I do need one, who makes a good one?

Also, do I need a tie?
