How was your first day at BC?

Hi! I’m an incoming freshman and obviously am a little nervous to start. I made a few friends at orientation but a lot of them are in Newton so I would assume I’m not going to see them the first day?

How was your first day at BC (good and bad stories). Any recommendations? Was it easy to meet people?

19 M Libido Issues

I’m on 75 mg of Zoloft now. I’ve been taking the medicine for around 4 months. Most recently I’ve noticed a decreased sex drive. The medication has been working SO WELL for my anxiety. Should I bring this up to my doctor next appointment? I’m starting college next semester. Full disclosure, I’m still able to finish but overall libido has definitely decreased. Any recommendations?

How is Mederios Hall?

I heard it is a lot quieter than other dorms, which is a little disappointing. I am a really social person. Do you think I’ll still meet people around my dorm? Will I still find people in the beginning to hang out with?

How long did it take for you to get familiar with the campus?

I’m an incoming freshman and the campus is beautiful! How long did it take for you to know your way around campus?

ELP

Just got into ELP! Is it competitive to get into or not really?

For those who know about it, is it a good experience/way to meet people? Or is it mediocre?

Do cool/chill people do it?

It says I need to move in a few days early

Premed class advice for taking MCAT

Hi. I was wondering if it was strongly not recommended to take Gen chem II + lab, bio I + lab, and physics I + lab in the same semester? If its not recommended, could someone tell me where I should fit it into my plan now? Any help is so appreciated!!

I am a pre-med and would like to have a lot of the MCAT prereqs done by end of sophomore year (from advice, I hear physics I is the main thing needed on MCAT and I can take physics II after MCAT).

Obviously if needed I can wait until after Junior year to begin studying but I want to have the opportunity to begin as early as possible.

Could anyone also advise on my current class plan?:

Freshman fall (SET):

Gen chem I + lab

Calc II

Public health

Cornerstone

English (WRIT)

Freshman spring:

Gen chem II + lab

Biology I + lab

Physics I + lab

Spanish

Elective(s)

Sophomore fall:

Orgo I

Bio II

Pysch

Elective(s)

Sophomore spring:

Orgo II

Biochem

Are there quads on Newton Campus? Also, advice on going random roommate?

Are there quads on Newton campus?

Do you think its fine to go random roommate as a guy. (Im a pretty normal kid--like sports, wants to go out, studies, etc.). Do you think its fine? Theres like one kid i know who still doesn't have a roommate but people told me I may not like him that much.

Boston College 1st Semester Premed Classes

Hi! I just registered for classes at BC. I am a biochem major who is premed and I’d like to have the option to be able to take the MCAT summer after sophomore year/beginning of junior year.

For my classes, I registered for: calc II, gen chem, gen chem lab, English, a social studies requirement, and a cornerstone class (15 credits).

Does this put me at a good spot? Would you recommend changing anything. I was told to not take bio, chem, and calc all in the same semester.

Honors Chemistry

Just got an email about applying to be an honors chemistry student as a biochem major. What has been your experience with this? Is it worth it for premed? Would you recommend it?

Emerging Leader Program Pre-Med?

Hi! I’m a first year student and just got an email about applying for ELP. I’m planning on being premed. Would you say it’s worth applying to this program, or are there other opportunities at BC I should focus more on as a premed student (focused on service). What’s your experience with this program?

Summer Before Freshman Year Advice

Hi everyone! I’m starting pre med at BC next year and am very excited.

This summer I am a swim coach (have been for the past 3 years).

I was wondering if it would be recommended to try and volunteer at a hospital/doctors office to begin getting clinical hours. Would I be able to put this on my app? (I’d continue volunteering into school year but it’d be in Boston instead of my home state).

Would you recommend I do anything else this summer? I really want to get ahead of beginning good activities and doing things I enjoy for my med school app.

For reference, my freshman year I want to join a few clubs and begin volunteering at a hospital and Boston and doing service work (non clinical). BC has lots of service opportunities. Then second semester I’d like to begin research with a professor.

How does my freshman year plan sound? I’m doing my plan hoping I don’t take a gap year but I am prepared to if needed. What would you recommend else I do summer before freshman year, if anything?
