NASA Confirms Boost Mission for the Swift Satellite was Unsuccessful, Will Likely Reenter Atmosphere Later This Year

For those unaware, Swift was actually the most successful and most cited NASA telescope ever if you look at the number of citations. Despite this it has no replacement so there was hope that a mission could boost it into higher orbit, but it appears this was unsuccessful :(

[FO] Six years ago I made baby shoes for my nephew with little bunnies, which eventually came back to my firstborn. I now have twins, so had to cross stitch a new pair of baby shoes!

From the Summer 2026 issue of Cross Stitcher, they had a circus baby sampler that included the seals. The baby shoes were sold by DMC but I’ve had the extra pair for years and not sure they’re still in production

[FO] I won a prize at the county fair this weekend!

Not the fanciest cross stitch, but our local subreddit had enjoyed my progress updates so it was the piece I chose for this year for the cross stitch category. I also became pregnant w twins during 2025, so I’m just impressed I finished anything at all!

The pattern was originally from 2021 from an Etsy store that no longer exists I’m afraid, but then I adapted it to fit the temperature scale of Oregon.

I FINALLY BEAT DRAGON’S COVE

Nothing to really say otherwise except wow that was really annoying! Kept saving it and leaving it alone for weeks at a time because it was soooo tedious.

I won a blue ribbon at the county fair!

Not as fancy as some beading you see here, but I still thing it was fancy enough to enter and turns out I was right! :)

I won first prize at the fair for my Japanese shashiko style bunny!

It was behind a layer of tulle to keep people from touching things so second pic is a more clear one when I finished it. My first time entering the fair and I got two other ribbons!

My cross stitch temperature chart won a prize at the Lane County fair!

After all the updates last year, here’s one final one! My first time entering things at the fair, and I got two blue ribbons for other entries too! :)

Northern lights alert right now for Oregon!

Astronomer here! Just saw some VERY faint northern lights in the city of Eugene. Can’t leave the house, but probably better views for those who can get to dark skies- good luck!

My local CVS already has an aisle of Halloween and Thanksgiving merch

The plates say “give thanks” and Thanksgiving is about half a year away

The most unrealistic part about this show IMO

To me it’s not even the British accents. It’s the part where people are inviting randos to their house and spilling casual secrets and making chit chat about sensitive topics.

Like ok, I know you need to keep the show moving so you’re a bit stuck as a writer if no one talks to anyone. But my mom grew up behind the Iron Curtain, and I t was drilled into my head by my mom and grandparents that in Soviet countries you never trust your neighbors and invite them over to your house. You never know who’s reporting to who, or who is really working on what, and what small joke or contraband will land you or someone you love in Siberia for life. This show is basically the perfect example of why with Irina’s actions the last two shows when interacting with Tanya.

I also find it wild that the Indian husband seems to realize the real likelihood of surveillance, but yeah if we were serious on that we’d REALLY have no story!

Hi folks,

Hup Holland hup!

Looking for baby friendly day trips in central Oregon

We have reached the stage of maternity leave where you can effectively do what you like so long as you can take a sack of potatoes there (or in our case, two because twins). I’m still on leave most of the summer, so was hoping to find some baby friendly day trips we can do! We just did a successful day trip to Sahalie Falls/ Clear Lake today with the in laws, which was pretty perfect.

Things suggested should ideally:

- Be ~1.5 hours max from Eugene (so, not Portland- Haceta Head lighthouse is probably the maximum distance I’m thinking)

- Stroller friendly (we have a jogging stroller ok I’m with flat hiking trails that aren’t paved) or baby carrier for short distances- two at once get heavy

- Huge fan of nature as that’s what this part of the world does best, especially birdwatching and geocaching, and if there’s a brewery to stop at that’s a plus! Random little museums are also encouraged.

So far my list includes stuff like Alesong Brewery, Florence/ Haceta Head lighthouse, tour the state capitol in Salem, and Mary’s Peak. Happy to hear other suggestions, thanks!

There’s two I assume escaped parrots at Washburn Park right now

Saw one but heard it calling back and forth to a second. Not sure of the species
