Did AFC Toronto have this goal stolen from them? It seems the referrer was calling an offsides on a Roses FC own goal, but according to Chat GPT, I'm not sure this is the right call?

Did AFC Toronto have this goal stolen from them? It seems the referrer was calling an offsides on a Roses FC own goal, but according to Chat GPT, I'm not sure this is the right call? Thoughts? Even Tanya Boychuk was surprised to learn it was a no goal.

Chat GPT:

An own goal can still be disallowed if there was an offside offence by the attacking team earlier in the play.

The key question is whether the attacking player in an offside position became involved in active play before the defender scored the own goal.

Examples where the own goal would be disallowed for offside:

An attacker in an offside position challenges the defender for the ball, pressures them, or interferes with their ability to play it.

An offside attacker makes a movement that impacts the defender or goalkeeper before the own goal happens.

The ball was clearly intended for an offside attacker who then becomes involved.

In those cases, the offside offence occurs first, so the own goal does not count.

Examples where the own goal would still count:

A defender accidentally redirects or miskicks the ball into their own net without any interference from an offside attacker.

The defender deliberately plays the ball and the offside attacker never challenges or interferes.

One of the most important distinctions in the Laws of the Game is:

merely being in an offside position is not an offence;

becoming involved in active play is.

Under the IFAB Laws of the Game, an attacking player can be penalized for:

interfering with play,

interfering with an opponent,

or gaining an advantage from their offside position.

So an own goal does not automatically “reset” or erase a prior offside offence.

Roses FC president Annie Larouche stepping down starting June 5th

Roses FC have just announced that President Annie Larouche is stepping down from her role on June 5th with Patrick Boivin taking the role in the interim.

Very shocking announcement!

#RosesFC

Here's their statement:

"Montréal Roses President Annie Larouche informed founders and investors Jean-François Crevier and Isabèle Chevalier this past March that her mandate would conclude on June 5. Until then, she will continue to support the organization to ensure a smooth transition and to facilitate the onboarding of her successor. The Roses are also announcing that Patrick Boivin will serve as interim with the club during this period. Involved with the project from the outset as an advisor to the co-founders, and subsequently as an investor, he will bring his extensive experience in professional sport and organizational leadership to ensure continuity of operations and to support the organization through this next phase."

"Love makes you do a lot of things"- Phillipe Eullafroy

Love this from Phillipe Eullafroy's post game presser! When he was asked what is the difference with his group now than it was before he responded

"Love makes you do a lot of things"

Full quote:

"It’s a combination of many things. First and foremost, the mindset, for sure. I’d say the atmosphere within the group. We place a lot of emphasis on emotions, on living together, on getting along well. And when people get along well off the field—and they do—they feel freer to make an effort for each other. Love makes people do a lot of things. So, when there’s love in a group, well, that’s it—we fight for each other."
