“Do NOT get high and look at the micropenis subreddit I am freaking the f*ck out”
The epicenter guys are evacuated :(
Yesterday became a literal wind tunnel firebox, the fire circled all the way back to us, blew up the mountain we face towards and then in the middle of the night after we left lit a giant fire on the hillside behind us. We heard today our home is still there and decided to head back to look and turn on our generators for our fridges. Talked to the Cal Fire department chief (they are out here now) and he said there’s thousands of fire fighters there and our property now is staged with about a hundred fire fighters lining the mountain. Prayers to everyone involved and hope everyone got out safe and special thanks to any fire crews out there. They are the real hero’s.
Update Evans Creek Fire 7/14
We’re the property at the epicenter of the fire. Left for grants pass today to grab groceries, gas, and supplies. Felt good to get out. Gone for maybe 3/3.5 hours and came home to a very different situation from when we left. The wind changed and started circling behind our ridge and several spot fire popped up and combined. We have been level one this entire time and now currently level two. We’ve done all preparations needed and set to go. Hope everyone affected right now is okay. Let’s stay strong Jackson county. Thank you for ALL the fighters working so hard on this fire.
We are in the epicenter of the evans creek fire
We’ve been more than lucky to have our home still. The fire fighters have closed down all roads near us except the one out toward grants pass. As far as we know per the team on our property, they have no idea. It was a team from 3.5 hrs away to protect homes like us and I can’t thank them enough. All we know is it’s blowing away from us, but that doesn’t mean everyone else is safe.
Here's the secret to not losing muscle and strength as you get older
l made this post in the aging parents sub and l got banned for it. l personally don't see anything wrong with it, so if there's an issue, mods l would prefer a warning and correction, not a ban from nowhere.
I'm a certified geriatric medical doctor, and l also volunteer to take care of older patients in my free time. Just wanted to let you know that a lot of muscle loss and loss of strength is avoidable, and you can still be strong in your old age. I'm going to try to explain the analogy in the simplest way possible. Forgive me if it sounds dumb.
Our bodies are like a Lego castle, and muscles are made from protein Lego bricks. Our bodies need a constant reminder to keep those blocks together. When people get older, they usually stop lifting heavy things or challenging their bodies.
But without the hard work of pushing or pulling against weight, like doing squats out of a chair or using stretchy bands, the body thinks you don't need those muscles anymore and starts throwing the bricks away.
At the same time, older people need to eat more protein, because their bodies waste a lot of those proteins and do not turn them into the amino acids efficiently needed to make muscle. But you know, a lot of older people don't like protein-heavy meals; they prefer tea, toast, etc. Without new Lego bricks coming in from food, the body gets desperate for energy and actually tears down its own muscles to burn them as firewood just to stay alive.
So doing nothing will melt the muscle and make them weaker over time. To stop this, make sure you do some strength exercises; it doesn't have to be intensive, just enough to remind your body not to break down those muscles. Also, make sure you are eating enough easy-to-digest protein bricks every single day.
l hope this does not sound like a water-is-wet analogy. Feel free to ask questions, l will be happy to answer.
Career Change?
Hey, so I’ve been in the hair industry for over twenty years (all behind the chair). I’ve relocated and relicensed in 3 different states. Rebuilt multiple times with success. I’ve recently relocated to a smaller town in southern Oregon. Near Medford/Ashland/Grants Pass. Getting my COS License in Oregon has proven to be much more difficult than other states in the past. If I decide to get my license I’m only looking to work maybe two days a week. Any of those cities I mentioned are at least 45 minutes away from where I live. So not trying to commute 4-5 days a week. With that said, I’m also burnt out mentally, physically, and creatively. I’m trying to figure out my next move… any suggestions on where I could pivot my career that’s still creative, rewarding, and makes decent money (even if it’s part time). Please and Thank you.
Colorado cosmetologist moved to Oregon.
Hey hairstylists: question. I just moved here and have an active cosmetology license in Colorado. I’ve been doing hair for over 20 years. I called the HLO today to find out there isn’t reciprocity (which i get not all states do). During my phone call I come to find out I have to pay a $50 fee to send my license approval to the state of Oregon. Then, have to take the Oregon state exam (again, fine), but also have to take all the written exams, which each cost money. So I’m looking at over $200+ right there. Once I pass, I then have to pay another $65 to get my license. Money aside, I live in rogue valley and the ONLY place to do all of this is in Salem. 3.5 hours away. I asked if there was access to zoom, remote testing, etc and she said: we’re just not there yet. So my question is why does it have to be so damn hard to practice my craft of over 20 years while having to fork out so much money, plus travel and hotel fees just to “maybe pass” the exam. There are little to no resources to know what these tests will be asking and I’ve heard that some of the system is not even correct. What’s a girl to do. I’m going to bite the bullet and do it bc it’s my passion and livelihood, but after living in 3 other states that didn’t require this much (especially with my experience and dedication to the field) it’s low key discouraging for me to even want to try
